Naughty After Dark Blog Hop: Day Two

Welcome back to Behind Closed Doors for the second day of the Naughty After Dark Blog Hop. Today I thought I would share a few inspirational pictures.  Now don’t get freaked out. It’s not religious inspiration I’m referring to, well I guess they could be depending on how you look at them! 😉

This picture is definitely Jacob Hartley and the delicious bad girl Julia Santos in The Island (Now and Forever 2). As soon as I laid eyes on it, I flashed on a scene between the two that happens after a particularly “grueling” session with them in Julia’s studio.  Jacob had to hold completely still on a small stage, completely naked while Julia sketched and then began a sculpture that would later become her masterpiece “Passion Unleashed.” Instead of using the female model she had pose with Jacob, she crafted her own body entwined with his. If this doesn’t get your “naughty” rolling, let’s take a look at the next couple.

Ah, another favorite couple of mine that will be the focus of another book in the Now and Forever series. After being on the road with his band Quarter to Three, Derek Quartermarsh is not interested in the groupies that flock to their concerts night after night. His heart will always belong to the sexy veterinary surgeon, Sarah McIntyre. After years of subtle flirts and innuendos, this couple finally confessed their feelings for each other in For the Love of Quinn. They will have their own story called Burning Heart.  What kind of naughtiness do you think these two will come up with?

I’ve been trying to find pictures for all of my couples and finally this one came up today. This is definitely  Jillian Ponueu and Erick Hartley.  The shy half Samoan, half Hawaiian first meets Jacob’s brother Eric in For the Love of Quinn at Disneyland of all places. Just like his big brother, Eric was hit hard the moment he laid eyes on the exotic beauty. They have a lot of obstacles to overcome before they can finally have their happily ever after. Will Jillian’s family obligations tear her away from the only man who has ever touched her very soul? Can Eric give up the career he’s always dreamed of in order to have his heart and soul by his side forever?  Come along for the ride of a lifetime in Thunderstruck. (This one is still a work in progress, but man! The things these two do to each other will bring out your naughty side and then some!)

This is another of my new favorite pictures. This is the surprise couple introduced in My Love, My Friend (Now and Forever 3). Katie O’Donnell is friends with Quinn’s sister Miranda and cousin Samantha and from the moment this Michigan beauty steps into Steve Eischer’s Las Vegas, her life will never be the same. Can the love she feels for him overcome the fear that he will never get over the woman he has tattooed on his chest? Find out in Lady Luck (Now and Forever 5). Yes this is another work in progress, but since the stories are so intertwined, you will get to follow all of the characters throughout the series.

So there you have it. A bit of my naughty mind at work creating the rest of the Now and Forever series and having one hell of a fantastic time doing it! So in honor of all of these couples, I wanted to share what I think is the naughtiest thing around…chocolate!  And what is the naughtiest chocolate candy there is?  That’s right. The GREEN M & M’s!

Here is a video in honor of the hot and sexy Miss Green. The first female M & M to ever grace a candy shop and of course the only one in Go Go boots! Enjoy!

Naughty After Dark Blog Hop…day one!

Welcome to the first day of the Naughty After Dark Blog Hop! There are over 100 fellow authors participating and on each of their sites you have the chance to win some “naughty” prizes. What couldn’t be more fun? If you click on the button to the right of this blog or on the image here, it will take you to the main page with the list of links.  At the end of this post is the list of the next three authors on the list if you would rather hop along that way. However you do it, please take the time to visit all of the authors over the next 8 days and maybe add a few more books to your to be read piles!

I will be giving away a signed print copy of my erotic contemporary romance For the Love of Quinn. Since the characters spend a great deal of time in Las Vegas, I wanted to also give away some naughty prizes from that town. I will be attending the very same veterinary conference that Quinn did in the book. I go to this conference every year but this time it will be different. My muse/boyfriend Liam will be joining me at the end of it for a romantic weekend alone together in wild Vegas!

So starting on February 18th, look for updates on what’s happening in Vegas and what sort of “bling” I find for the gift basket to go with the book. If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comment section below. 😉  As always, each day you leave a comment on this blog during the hop, you get another entry in my contest. I will pick a winner on Thursday February 22nd. As I have to attend lectures in the morning, it may be later in the afternoon before I notify the winner.

I’m going to do something a little different for me on the first day of this hop. Instead of me coming up with a topic or three for the next couple days, what would you like to see here? More excerpts? Poetry? What do you consider naughty? Come on! Don’t be shy. Share your naughty fantasies with Dr. Tammy!

I hope you all had an enjoyable Valentine’s Day and here’s to finding even more naughty fun over the next week!

Here are the next three authors in the Hop list after me. Stop in and show them some love too!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Welcome back to the With Love Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Today is the last day of this fantastic event with over 260 participating authors, all giving away prizes. How can you get a chance to win something? Well, just read the blogs and leave a comment. That’s it! Each author will pick a winner and announce it tomorrow.

For those of you who are visiting this blog for the first time, I’ve put up a different submission for each day. The first two have excerpts from one of my works in progress for The Kayne Series. That one will be a new subgenre for me as I am diving into the paranormal/fantasy stuff full force. There will be vampire, damphyr, fairies, witches, warlocks and some other Heavenly beings. Of course there will be some hot sex throughout all of the books in the series, so stay tuned!

Yesterdays submission was an excerpt from my nearly finished WIP The Island (Now and Forever 2). It’s basically a prequel to For the Love of Quinn and introduces a few new characters that will play rolls in the other books in this series. Ever wondered if you had a Guardian Angel? Well, Jake and Quinn get to meet theirs in the flesh so to speak. I hope to get this book submitted to my publisher with in the next month or so…keep you fingers crossed!

For my contest, you can leave a comment on each day’s submission for separate entries. What’s up for grabs in a signed print copy of my book of poetry Follow Me: Poetry from the Heart and Soul and a hand crafted cherub heart pendant made by my bestie Deadra Wagner. (her picture is on the lower portion of this blog on the right side!)  You can go back to the previous posts if you missed them and leave your comment. I will be announcing the winner tomorrow morning. Please leave your contact email information so I can let you know if you win.

So now for today’s topic: Does true love exist? Is your soul mate out there?

People always ask me if I believe in the idea of soul mates and I always tell them I do, for other people.  I think that is why I started writing romance and erotic romances in particular.  I wanted to experience that kind of love connection even if it was just in my fantasy world.  I still had a hope that one day I would find my mo anam cara, my soul friend or soul mate.  My Mom found hers with her second marriage, why couldn’t I find mine someday?

I thought I had found him when I reconnected with a man I had been in love with for over 27 years. Even though so much time had passed, we just fell into our old friendship as if we never stopped being around each other.  I waited so many years to see him again.  He joined the Marine Corps right out of high school and we lost track of each other.  I never forgot him or stopped loving him as only a teenaged heart could do.  I was soon to find out that the boy I had loved all of these years was no longer there.  Both of us tried to hold onto that fantasy, but it wasn’t meant to be.  My heart was so broken, but still longed for the one that could make it all right.

After one too many failed relationships I thought I was just destined to go through life alone.  I finally realized that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.  I didn’t have to be in a relationship or married in order to be happy.  The moment I accepted that, was the moment I found my always and forever.

I agreed to go on a date with a local man.  Both of us weren’t looking for a long term romance, but dating other people, basically keeping our options open.  Both of us had been burned before and we guarding our hearts, but something just clicked on that very first date.  It felt like we had known each other for years and as the conversation went on, it felt like we had known each other in previous lifetimes.

I know, for many of you that sounds strange, but the sense of déjà vu was so strong between us, I couldn’t explain it any other way.  He couldn’t either.  It was so refreshing to actually find someone with similar beliefs.  We shared a lot of our hopes and dreams with each other on that date and others.  It felt so right, so why did I want to run?

That’s right.  I said I wanted to run away from him as fast as I could.  I felt such love and affection for him right off that it scared me.  Never before had I felt as supported and loved as I did when I was with him.  I knew I was falling head over heels for this man and I also knew he was not in the same place.  I couldn’t put myself through that heartache one more time so I tried to break it off several times.  We always found our way back to each other and slowly but surely those other people we were dating dropped out of our lives.  It was just the two of us and it hit us hard.  As soon as we admitted to ourselves that the love we have for each other was there to stay and in fact growing with each and every moment, our journey to find our happily ever after was just beginning.  This time it was different.  This time we were in it together, all the way.

Just like my characters in my Now and Forever series, I have been through hell and back and found my soul mate.  In For the Love of Quinn, Quinn is blessed with the love of two men.  Both of them hold claims on her heart, but only one of them completes her heart and soul.  It’s her family and friends who help her find out which one, and more importantly help her find herself through it all.

I am blessed to have such friends who I call my Heart and Soul Sisters.  The Celtic phrase “mo anam cara” can also be applied to them.  They are truly friends of my heart and soul.  Without them, I would never have made it through my separation and now divorce.  I would have never made it through the loss of my heart to the love from so long ago, if these five other women were not there for me.  They encouraged me to keep moving forward and never stop living and loving with all of my heart.  Because of them I was able to be open enough to find my soul mate and happily ever after.

For me, every day is Valentine’s Day because of my Soul Sisters and my Muse Liam.  I hope every one of you have people in your lives that lift you up and make you feel loved every single moment of every single day. I wrote a poem for Liam that sums up my feelings for him.  Today I dedicate it to everyone out there who has found their soul mate or is still looking.  Enjoy!

Safe Harbor

You are the song my heart beats to,

A rhythm wild and free.

You give me purpose again,

Opened my eyes

To see the Goddess in me.

You lift me up higher

Than I could have ever dreamed

Of reaching alone.

With you by my side,

I can do anything,

Get through any adversity,

Celebrate every joy.

You are the Safe Harbor

And the Light that guides me Home.

Your love anchors me enough

So I can soar wild and free,

And yet still be safe

In your arms at night.

Your strength and courage

Are beacons bright and true,

Encouraging me to do what’s right.

There was a time not so long ago

When I thought all hope was lost,

And I could go on no longer.

Your heart kept calling out to me.

Your love lighting the way

Back to you,

My heart, my soul,

My Safe Harbor.

Day Three of the With Love Valentine’s Day Blog

Hello again and welcome to the third day of this wonderful hop. Over 260 authors are participating in this and offering fantastic prizes. All you have to do is leave a comment each day and you get chances to win those prizes. Winners will be announced Wednesday, February 15th on each blog.

For Behind Closed Doors, you can leave a comment for a chance to win a signed copy of my book of poetry and a hand crafted cherub heart pendant. Visit here each day of the hop for more entries. It’s as simple as that!

For today’s blog submission, I decided to switch gears a bit and give you an excerpt from my current work in progress The Island(Now and Forever 2). For those of you who stopped in during the Christmas blog hop, you will recall the short story A Christmas Miracle for Jake. Well, I decided to develop that into the next book to follow For the Love of Quinn.  In this book we will find out how Jake and Quinn are connected and why they are so drawn to each other when the meet in Vegas.  Another character we get to love to hate is Ms. Julia Santos.  She is the reason that Jacob Hartley is a love them and leave them kind of guy.  In one night, Julia manages to destroy the lives of three of her lovers as well as a few other casualties.

The following excerpt happens just after Jake and Julia have a small argument about going to visit his mother for her birthday. The trip would take him out of town at the same time of her art gallery opening. Julia won’t listen to him and manages to make sure that he stays in town with her.

Jacob agreed with the doctor to leave Julia in the hospital overnight to rest. Not so much for her, but he needed a break from the chaos too. For once she didn’t argue with him or insist that he stay with her in the hospital room. He kissed her forehead as he got up to leave. Her eyes fluttered a little bit, but didn’t open. He wasn’t sure if she was really asleep, or just didn’t want him to see her without her colored contacts. Hell, he had been with her for the last two years and had seen her with every eye color imaginable, but still had yet to see her natural color.

He stopped at the nurse’s station to make sure they had his cell number and recognized the woman just reporting for her shift. She smiled brightly at him at first, but then frowned, her eyebrows knit with worry. “Mr. Hartley? Are you okay? Is it Ms. Santos again?”

He quickly glanced at her name badge. Why couldn’t he ever remember her name? It was very close to his mother’s. “Kathy, we have to stop meeting like this.” He tried to smile but he was just too beat. “The doctor gave her some sort of sedative so she can rest tonight. I’ll be back to get her in the morning.”

The red-headed nurse nodded and agreed to call him if there were any problems. “You make sure you get some sleep too. You look like you’ve been run over by a semi.”

Jacob laughed for the first time that night. “You know, I feel like it.  I don’t know if I can take much more of this.” Jacob didn’t know why he said that to her, practically a stranger, but it felt good to get it out in the open.

“Mr. Hartley, have you looked into getting Ms. Santos some professional help?” Kathy’s brown eyes were filled with genuine concern. Jacob wasn’t sure if it was for Julia or for him, but at the moment it didn’t matter. He felt relieved that someone else brought up the subject.

“Funny you should ask. I brought it up last week.”

“Just before—“

“Just before her last meltdown, yes. Until she agrees to commit herself for treatment, there’s little more I can do for her. I can say she tried to kill herself tonight, but I can’t prove it.”

Kathy smiled and patted his hand gently. “Don’t worry, Mr. Hartley. I’m sure Dr. Carlos will get through to her. He has a wonderful bedside manner and I am sure he can convince her to get some help dealing with her emotional issues. Now go on home. Ms. Santos is in good hands.”

* * * *

“Julia, what on earth are we going to do with you?” Dr. Mario Carlos locked the door to the private hospital room and dimmed the lights. “You know how the nurses love to gossip. Eventually one of them will put two and two together and figure out you’ve been faking all of these so called accidents.”

“Who cares what those nosy bitches think.” She reached out and rubbed his already hard cock through his scrubs. “I need this pounding the hell out of my pussy right now.  So stop talking and start fucking.” Julia meant exactly what she said. She didn’t care what anyone else thought and that included Jacob. At that moment, all she could think about was her lover’s glorious cock filling her to the brim. She thought of nothing all day except how she felt with his tongue darting in and out of her ass and pussy. Just the flick of his tongue over his own lips made her shiver with delight and soak her thong.

The very same thong the good doctor tore from her body seconds after lifting her up to sit on top of sink in her bathroom. Her finger wound tight in his dark wavy hair as his mouth plundered hers, taking her breath away. She loved the power she had over this man. Any time, any place she wanted, he was always willing to oblige. Tonight was no exception.

Mario spread her legs wider, lifting her off the sink as he buried his dick in her dripping cunt. Julia moaned and sighed as he started to slowly pull out and plunge back in. “Stop teasing me and give me what I want. Now.” Julia pulled his mouth away from hers, but not before she bit down on his lower lip, nearly drawing blood.

“You’ll pay for that, bitch.”

* * * *

 “Promise?”

He pulled out of her abruptly and spun her around leaving her hands braced against the sink. He kicked her legs apart and bent her over so that her swollen outer lips glistened at him. She shimmied and shaked, trying to entice him to enter her again, but he had other plans. He grabbed the liquid hand soap bottle and squeezed a large amount over the crack of her ass, slipping his fingers in and out of her, stretching her inner muscles to accommodate him. “I don’t make promises, sweetheart. I’m a man of action.” He slid the head of his cock into her ass, feeling her tighten around him and then stretch more. The sensation of her squeezing and releasing his entire member as he continued to glide in was almost more than he could take, but he was not about to give her the satisfaction of him exploding inside her. Not yet.

“Oh, I love your kind of action, doctor.” Julia was beginning to pant and struggle to move against him. She tried to take control of their session as always, but this time he wasn’t going to allow it. He wanted to hear her beg for a change.

He reached around cupped both of her large full breasts in his hands and pulled her up against him, his cock still embedded deep inside her ass, her anal muscles spasming out of control. Julia’s head fell back against his shoulder as he nibbled along her neck. “Please, Mario.”

“Please, what?” He kneaded her breasts and twisted her nipples eliciting a whimper from her now.

“Please. Fuck me. Fuck me until I scream.”

“God, you know I love your filthy mouth.” Mario moved his hands to Julia’s hips, feeling her body shake under his fingertips. He dug his nails into her flesh pulling her back hard against his body, over and over. She grunted with each thrust inside of her, dancing on the tips of her toes keeping her ass in the position he wanted her in. Her juices coated her inner thighs and continued to spurt out of her.

She grabbed one of the wash clothes sitting on the sink and shoved it into her mouth barely stifling her screams of ecstasy. Finally, the always demanding diva was putty in his hands.

Let me know what you think and you will get another entry in my contest. Make sure you click on the graphic above to take you to the main event page for our hop. There you will find the links to the other authors’ pages. Have fun and good luck!

With Love Valentine’s Day Blog…day two!

Welcome back to day two of this fabulous blog hop! If you are just joining us today, make sure that you go back to yesterday’s post and leave a comment there too. Each day that you leave a comment you will be entered to win a print copy of my book of poetry Follow Me: Poetry from the Heart and Soul and a hand crafted heart necklace. I posted a picture of what the necklace will look like with yesterday’s post.

I am one of over 260 participants in this hop, so make sure you check out the other sites and get yourself in the running for the other great prizes being offered.

Now for today’s post…

This is an excerpt from my work in progress The First Borne (The Kayne Legacy 1).  Here we find Michael Kayne and Abigail Matthews alone in their hotel room after a long day of celebration at the High Court of the Fae. The night before was Michael’s fortieth birthday when he accepted the family legacy from his grandfather.  Only the first borne in each generation is eligible for the full legacy: to become Vampire and protect the essence of the Tree of Life.  The other guardian of the essence has to be a Fae as commanded by Lady Fate.  Abigail as it turns out is Fae and Michael’s chosen mate.

“I’m still overwhelmed by it all, Michael.  If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would have sworn it was all make believe or just a dream.” Abigail sat down on the edge of the bed, thoroughly exhausted after the day at Court. Not only did she finally meet her birth mother, but she was introduced to the High Court of the Fae as the next in line for the thrown.

Michael knelt on the floor next to the bed and looked into her flushed face.  “As my grandmother told you, as soon as the clock struck midnight on my fortieth birthday, all would be revealed to you. I’ve known what my path would be my entire life, but standing next to you during tonight’s ceremony was more than a bit surreal for me too.”

“Vampires, fairies, damphyr, witches and warlocks all there and so many more beings represented that I thought were all make believe.  I’ve always been drawn to their stories and maybe that’s why I wanted to become a writer, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be living those fantasies.” She brushed her fingertips along Michael’s stubbly chin. “Here I am, falling in love with a man who chose to become an immortal, a vampire.”

Michael smiled at his fiancé of just four hours. “You have had my heart from the moment you appeared to me in my dreams. I didn’t know who you were, but I knew I wanted to spend forever with you if you would have me.  Together we can strengthen the bond between the Fae and the Vampires and continue to protect the essence of the Tree of Life.”  He reached down to slip off her diamond and ruby studded heels from her feet. The skirt of the silver gown she wore eased up her legs as Michaels hands moved from her feet, toward her knees.

Abigail’s breath caught in her throat. This is what she had wanted from the moment she walked into his office and found out they were destined to be together. Funny how she had a harder time believing that then the fact she was Fae and Michael was the multiple great grandson of Cain and Lilith.  All doubts slipped from her mind during the week they spent together doing the interviews about his family and foundation. She slipped his jacket from his shoulders as she leaned forward to brush his lips with her own, softly at first, but then with more need.  Her tongue slipped between his lips, teasing and sliding over his, eliciting a soft moan from deep in his chest.

He broke the kiss and searched her face, his gray eyes glistening. “Honey, if we don’t stop now, I won’t be able to control myself like before.” Abigail knew he was referring to the fact he was now a full-fledged vampire and needed to be with his mate. “Being this close to you, and not—“

“Taking what is rightfully yours?” She smiled and felt his body relax in her arms. “If I wasn’t sure, I wouldn’t be alone with you. I need you just as much as you need me.”

Michael slowly stood up, never taking his eyes from hers, and pulled her up to stand in front of him.  Her hands trembled slightly as she unbuttoned the vest of his tuxedo and then his shirt. He reached up and tugged the ruby combs from her hair, letting the curls fall free.  His mouth found hers again as his fingers eased the zipper of her gown down her back, past her waist, to the top of her ass. Sliding his hand inside the gown he encountered her soft bare skin, warm and inviting. “Aren’t we a bit, naughty? Showing up in Court today commando?” He chucked against her ear, giving it a little nip before sliding the straps of her dress off her shoulders. The silk and lace slipped down her curves to settle on the floor with a soft whisper.

Abigail disengaged from his arms and knelt on the bed once again. “You know, there’s nothing like the feel of silk against bare skin. The dress fit my body like a glove. It just didn’t feel right having something else on underneath it.” She reached for him and Michael joined her on the bed, easing her back onto the pillows, trailing kisses down her neck as they went. “I take that back. Skin on skin feels pretty fucking good too!”

Michael winked and flicked her right nipple with his tongue before taking it into his mouth and sucking hard. “Nothing else you can think of feels great against your skin?” A gasp escaped from her lips before she could control herself. His left hand trailed down her abdomen to the top of her pussy. Her juices were already flowing out of her, coating her inner thighs. She lifted her hips up to meet his fingertips as they grazed her swollen clit.

Abigail’s fingers entwined in his hair as she gently urged his mouth over to her left breast. “I’m not sure. I think I need more research.”

“Hmm. I like how your mind works, sweetheart.” He nipped, licked, and kissed his way down to settle between her thighs, spreading them a bit wider before dipping his tongue between her outer lips. Abigail’s legs quivered as the heat spread through her body. Her need for him was growing to the point of pain, but she didn’t want him to stop.

 * * * *

Her scent was making him dizzy, but the taste of her drove him wild with need to take her and make her his bride tonight. He slipped two fingers into her dripping pussy. Abigail’s inner muscles immediately grabbed on and pulled him in deeper. His middle finger teased and feathered her sweet spot, making her pant and squirm under him.

“Yes, there!” Her hips snapped up toward him and his hand was immediately coated with another rush of her cum.  Her entire body shook violently as her orgasm raced through her from head to toe. Michael’s cock responded to every moan and sigh, throbbing and bouncing to be deep inside her.

He slid up her flushed body, staring deep into her eyes and knowing she was his now and forever. Abigail wrapped her legs around his waist as he entered her fully in one hard thrust, filling her completely. Her pussy clenched hard around his shaft, taking him all the way in.  Her nails slid down his back sending him over the edge. Michael pumped harder, his balls slapping against her ass each time he buried himself to the hilt into her cunt.

The sight of Abigail’s tits bouncing wildly between their bodies, the feel of her skin against his, and the wild and fruity scent coming off her in waves, finally broke down the last barrier Michael had set up around his heart. With a low growl he fucked her harder and faster as he let go, joining her in another orgasm. Before he realized what was happening, his lips were at her neck. His fangs extended and pierced her skin just as he erupted deep inside her.

Abigail’s arms wrapped around his body and held him tight as he began to drink from her. Her voice was only a hoarse whisper at this point. “Don’t stop, Michael. All that I am and all that I will be belongs to you.”

Valentine’s Day Blog Hop…Day One

Hello everyone! Welcome to Behind Closed Doors and the first day of the With Love Valentine’s Day Blog Hop! I am one of over 200 authors participating over the next four days. Each day you have a chance to leave a comment for an entry in my contest and others in the hop. Each author is giving a way a prize so make sure you comment each day and click on the graphic above to take you to the main hop page to find more authors to visit!

I will be giving away a print copy of my book of poetry Follow Me: Poetry from the Heart and Soul as well as a hand crafted piece of jewelry made by my best friend Deadra Wagner.

It is a heart with with wings pendant that will look similar to the one  pictured.

For my posts, I’ve decided to share a preview of one of my works in progress. It is part of my series The Kayne Legacy. The first book in that series will be called The First Borne. I hope you enjoy it and keep coming back each day of the hop to find out more.

Abigail Matthews stood in front of the full length mirror in the third outfit she’d tried on that morning.  Nothing looked right to her critical eye. The first blouse was cut too low. The last skirt was too short. The gray dress made her look like an elderly school teacher instead of the sexy forty year old reporter for Time Magazine. “Fuck it.” She unzipped the dress and let it fall to the floor without another thought. She went right to her favorite ensemble and instantly felt at ease again. The deep wine colored tailored blouse clung to her breasts enough to be classy, but not trashy, and was the perfect contrast to the soft black dress pants and leopard print pumps she quickly slipped into. “Perfect.”  A quick glance at her watch made her smile. She still had a few minutes before the limo was due to pick her up to take her to the interview that could ultimately make or break her career.

No one, least of all Abigail, expected that she would land the most sought after interview in the world.  She was thrilled when she heard her magazine had won the interview, but was shocked to learn that it would not happen unless she was the one to do it.  The Kayne Foundation had been very specific in their response. It was either Abigail or no interview.  Of course there was the friendly and not so friendly ribbing by the other reporters and questions about who she slept with to get such a request. She didn’t care. She was finally going to meet the CEO of the largest investment group in the world.  There was not a country on the planet that didn’t have at least one of their hospitals offering top of the line medical care for those in need. They funded research projects that ranged from finding new treatments and cures for various cancers as well the pipeline used to transport the oil from Alaska down to the lower forty-eight and all over the world. The same materials were used for piping water into to more arid regions of the world enabling crops to grow for the first time in several decades.

Before heading up his family’s foundation, Michael Kayne was famous in his own right as a specialist in the fields of infectious disease and blood borne illnesses.  His work in formulating the vaccine against AIDS earned him the Nobel Prize.  Abigail was fascinated by him and the entire Kayne family and couldn’t wait to ask all about them. Just Michael’s immediate family members alone could fill the pages of several magazines with their accomplishments, but there was one question that she hoped she would get answered today.

Why me? She remembered the day when she found out that all of her schooling was funded by the Kayne Foundation. Every single grant and scholarship was provided by them including a monthly stipend for her living expenses while she attended school.  Sure she had fantastic grades and test scores, but she never remembered applying for anything from the Kayne Foundation. She had asked her adoptive parents if they knew why, but they knew even less than she did.

A knock on her door brought her back to the present. She looked out the window and caught a glimpse of the black limo in her driveway as well as another round of butterflies in her stomach.  “I’ll be right there.” She grabbed her computer bag and purse and moved swiftly to her door and her destiny.

* * * *

“Dr. Kayne? Ms. Matthews has just arrived. Shall I send her in now?”

Michael smiled. He had never been one to look forward to being interviewed, and shied away from publicity whenever possible, preferring his lab and field work over answering probing questions. But this time, he felt like a little kid on Christmas. As soon as his grandfather gave him her file, Michael wanted to know more about Abigail Matthews.  Now was his chance. “Thank you, Mary. Send her in and please make sure we aren’t disturbed.”

The heavy doors to his office slowly swung open. Michael’s breath caught in his throat.  The woman walking through the doors was so much more than he expected. Her curly strawberry blonde hair was pulled back into a large clip, letting loose tendrils fall down her neck. Her ice blue eyes reflected the lights in his office giving them an extra sparkle. His heart pounded and he fought the urge to rush toward her and take her in his arms and kiss her. What the hell is the matter with me?

She walked up to him and extended her hand. “Dr. Kayne, thank you so much for agreeing to meet with me today.”  Abigail tilted her head to the side and smiled. “Did I catch you at a bad time? You look a little pale.”

Michael chuckled. “Not at all, Ms. Matthews. I’ve been looking forward to your visit for some time now.” He took her hand and immediately felt a jolt throughout his entire body. Her grip tightened and she pulled in her lower lip. Did she feel it too? “Why don’t we set up over near the window? The chairs are quite comfortable and there is an outlet for your laptop. I’m sure you have a lot of material you wish to cover today.”

Abigail smiled again. “That I do, Dr. Kayne.”

“Dr. Kayne is so formal. Since you are about to learn everything you wish to know about me and The Kayne Foundation, I would feel a bit more comfortable if you’d call me Michael. Would you prefer Abigail or Abby”

She eased herself into the dark green leather over-stuffed chair opposite his, tucking one of her legs underneath her.  “Abby is fine, although no one has called me that since I was a freshman at Michigan State.”

Michael wished he chose the couch to sit on so he could be closer to her. Her scent was making him a bit punch drunk. His mind kept wandering to what it would feel like to hold her close, dancing in the moonlight on a beach somewhere exotic. The sound of her voice made his stomach flutter.  He had never had these kinds of reactions around any woman let alone someone he had just met.  “Abby it is. Where do you want to start?” Abigail tilted her head to the side and Michael fought the urge to bite his lower lip.  Lord, this woman is killing me!

“What the hell happened when you shook my hand? For a moment there, I thought my knees were going to buckle.”

“Ah. You felt it too.”  She nodded and her eyes were open wide, pulling him in deeper and deeper. There was no getting around it. He was going to have to tell her everything. Hopefully she would believe him. Her future, their future depended on it.

“You came here today hoping to find out your connection to my family, right?”

Abigail swallowed hard. “Yes. Is there one? Why was I singled out?”

“Can’t you feel it?” Michael sat back in his chair and held her gaze.  “When you walked into the room, the moment we met, you felt at home.”

Abigail’s eyes widened a bit more. “How could you know that?”

“Apparently, we are meant to be together.”

She laughed. “What? We’re destined to be together as a couple?” She shook her head. “This doesn’t make any sense. Why me and why now?”

“I am the first borne of my parents’ brood. On my fortieth birthday, I have to make a choice– accept the family legacy, or continue on as I am. For the legacy to continue on through me, I have to marry a fae.”

“A fae, as in a fairy? All of the dreams she’s had lately, could this be what they were trying to tell her? “But I’m not—“

“Yes, you are. You are and have always been fae. Now at forty years old, you too have to decide.  Join our families or go without your powers that are currently lying dormant.

Abigail’s mind reeled. “I don’t have any special powers. I’m just me.”

“Really? Have you had dreams that ended up coming true? Have you touched someone and could hear their thoughts?”

She flushed from her head to her toes. “I’ve always had little bits of that over the years, but the last three years it has been getting stronger and stronger, especially the last couple of months.”

“And you’ve dreamed of me?” Michael’s gray eyes appeared to sparkle. At first Abigail attributed it to the overhead lights, but there weren’t any in that area of his office.  Her spine tingled. “How?”

“I’ve dreamed of you every night for the last year. It wasn’t until my grandmother showed me your picture did I put two and two together.”

“You believe in all of this fairy tale stuff?”

Michael nodded. “So do you, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

“I’m doing a story on your family, Michael. Nothing more.”

“Oh really? So you’re not interested in finding out if the legend is true?”

The jolt flew up Abigail’s spine once again. She realized there was no hiding anything from him, and she didn’t want to. She felt safe with him. “Is it real? Are you all descendants of the biblical Cain?”

“I’ll do you one better. How would you like to meet him?”

“Stop! You can’t be serious. Cain is alive, in the 21st century?”

“He is and right behind you.”

Abigail slowly turned around and looked into another set of steely gray eyes. The middle aged man before her smiled, Michael’s smile, and held her hands in both of his callused ones. “Abigail?  Meet my grandfather, Adam Kayne, or as you may know him Cain, the First Borne.”
