Two Weeks Left in Kindle Select for this #Erotic Collection #LGBT #menage

Welcome back to Behind Closed Doors. The countdown to releasing Season of Sun and Sin with all other retail outlets has begun! I can’t tell you how long these last three months have been. I wanted to see what it would be like to have a book enrolled in Kindle Select—be exclusive to Amazon for a short period of time. I mean, others swear by it so I thought why not give it a go.

Biggest. Mistake. I’ve. Ever. Made.

Okay, that’s being a little over dramatic, but it was one of the top errors I’ve made during this journey of mine through the publishing world. Never, ever will I put everything into one retail outlet. I had essentially cut off a large chunk of my fan base with this experiment with the devil…errr…Amazon. That’s all about to change next month. This collection will go live on iTunes, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, ARe and Smashwords.

For those of you who enjoy the Kindle Select program and are able to get the most out of borrowing an unlimited number of books for $10/month, more power to you. Enjoy it and read everything you can get your hands on that’s enrolled in the program. Unfortunately, many of your favorites probably aren’t there, or won’t be there for long. The cost is too great for us to be exclusive to Amazon.

There are so many other services out there to get ebooks and I’d like to be able to offer my stories to as many of them as I can. Many prefer iTunes and Nook over Kindles. I can’t cut them out any more than I can take all of my books down from Amazon. Readers are everywhere and I’m trying to be there with them.

For now, you can still get Season of Sun and Sin through the Kindle Unlimited and Prime programs for free. The regular price is $2.99—a fabulous deal for three tales that will knock your socks off. Here are the blurbs.

Is there Ever A “Good” Time to Have Writer’s Block? #amwriting #MyWANA

The Fear of Writers Everywhere!

Welcome back to Behind Closed Doors, a place where I like to share thoughts and bits about my writing. This week, I’m having a very bad case of the dreaded writer’s block. Honestly, this is really a bad time for this to happen. I have a huge deadline. In less than two weeks I have to turn in two novellas to my editor, finish up my application for my veterinary license in Washington so it will be in place when we move in the fall, finish the final book in my alter ego Tawny Savage’s Bigfoot Chronicles for a June/July release date…and pack up this house to get ready for the move. Oy!

Is it any wonder I’m blocked? LOL

I wish I could just go away somewhere, lock out the rest of the world and just let the muses take me where they want to take me. I’m ready for the journey. I learned a long time ago not to try to direct any of my muses. They speak when they wish and that’s that. No amount of begging, pleading or bribing will get them to open up if they don’t want to do it, and for Goddess sake don’t you dare try to tell them how the story will turn out! Talk about a mutiny…

I didn’t try to take over the story at all. I kept all of my pens and notebooks at the ready, eager to jot down any little tidbit even if it only was a partial scene or snippet of dialogue. Whatever it was, I wrote it down. Unfortunately, all the bits and parts aren’t coming together like they have in the past. What’s a girl to do?

I’ve tried walking away, switching manuscripts to work on a different story, changing scenery, with music, without music, total silence in my office (totally didn’t work), EVERYTHING and it’s still all fuzzy. Maybe my muses need a vacation? Not sure how I can send them on one until I’ve completed these stories but if that’s what they need I’ll have to figure out a way.

Well, I’m off to change things up yet again and see if the Candy Kisses foursome will tell me more about their new adults only pub in the Detroit Metro area. Yes, that’s one of the stories I have to write for the Sassy Vixen Publishing summer anthology Season of Sun and Sin. This particular novella I’m writing as Lia Michaels and follows the Candy Kisses restaurant owners Candice, Alexander, Gabriel and their new partner Darrin. This one finds them six months after they formed their…uh…partnership both in and out of the bedroom in the winter anthology ‘Tis the Season for Seduction. Better get back to it!

I continued to deliver her punishment except now I enjoyed the sound of her calling out with each smack. Her squeals that once were so pain-laden now had an edge to them. #TheVixen Has Thrown Down the Gauntlet!

It’s been a busy week around here as of late. I have nearly caught up on ALL of my back log and am putting the finishing touches on the special gift package to one special blog hop winner. My hubby and I are both on the mend with his last round of tests showing NO CANCER!! Now it’s my turn for the round robin of testing. With changing up our health plans at work, I have to break in a new doctor. I’m both nervous and excited about it. I’ll get a new outlook from this doctor and hopefully together we can come up with a plan to get my health at 100%. I promised my husband that I would take care of me now.

Of course, having sent my alter egos Lia and Stephanie on “vacation” for the last week has helped me focus on me and my projects but nothing can stop The Vixen! That part of my personality will not stop working and continues to fight the good fight when it comes to defending erotica and erotic romance. Why is it that so many want to “clean up” this genre? It’s separated from mainstream fiction and romance for a reason. Both showcase very explicit and detailed sex scenes. If a novel or short story doesn’t have this sort of detail, then it belongs in the mainstream categories.

The news media has made it an “in” thing to call something erotica or erotic romance. I wish for once, they would do some actual fact checking before they start with the labels. Because of their erroneous descriptions, readers who don’t like the explicit materials have flocked to Amazon and other ebook outlets in order to get themselves some “erotica like that Fifty Shades.” Unfortunately, when they read what really makes up a good erotic romance, they are often appalled and call it “porn” or “blatant smut.”

It doesn’t help matters when editors, authors and even some publishers try to redefine what makes up an erotic romance. No wonder readers are confused! Quite a few discussions have been going on around the Internet via blogs, Twitter and Facebook about this and a few of my fellow authors and myself have been personally attacked and our work more or less belittled.

Well…I’m not going to sit back and keep quiet about it. I’m going to keep defending my chosen genres until there is no longer any debate about it. I’ve started it off with my Sinfully Sassy Sundays with The Vixen spot on Four Seduced Muses. Having the descriptions of body fluids in a sex scene be called “icky” by an editor was just too much for me. Click on the link and see what I had to say. It’s a bit tongue in cheek, but at the heart of it, I’m ticked off that I have to take up this fight in the first place.

You can’t have it both ways. You don’t allow explicit detailed sex scenes in mainstream romances, then you can’t call the mainstream stuff erotica or erotic romances. Taking our genre name away won’t make us leave. We are here to stay!

The Island Has Been Nominated for an Award!

I’m thrilled beyond belief right now. I just received word that The Island has been nominated for Best Erotic Romance of 2012 on Sizzling PR’s website. This is the first nomination I’ve received for my writing and it couldn’t have come at a better time. With all the craziness of trying to balance our writing with my evil day job, I’ve had some trouble concentrating on finishing some of my current works in progress.

Having someone acknowledge all the hard work I put into this series has given me that extra boost and put a huge smile on my face. What a way to start off the new year!

My weekly feature is called Sinfully Sassy Sundays with The Vixen. This week I’m talking about fun foods to incorporate into sex play time. There are many to consider and many to avoid. I didn’t go into the ones to avoid at this time. If you want to have that discussion, we can do it in the comments section either here or there. Suffice it to say, the foods that you are allergic to you should stay away from. Some spices will burn on the skin and shouldn’t be applied to the delicate tissue of your genitalia.

Do your research, talk with your partner about it and above all have fun with it. If you aren’t having fun and enjoying the time with your partner, there is no point in doing it.

Quinn and Jacob join the #WickedAfterDark Celebration

Welcome to Behind Closed Doors and the Wicked After Dark Halloween Blog Hop. For those of you who’ve visited every day since October 24th, thank you! If this is your first time here, I hope you enjoy what you see and visit the last posts as well as the next few days. I’ve had a marvelous time chiming in on the blogs and letting my characters take over too. Well, letting Steve take over may not have been the smartest move on my part, but all in all I still had a nice time with him. I just wish he’d stop telling folks about our past. Sheesh!

Today I have a special treat. We’re headed over to the Island to visit with Quinn and Jake. They’ve spent a bit of time together in paradise. I want to check in with them and see how their doing. Maybe they’ve decided what they’re going to do. For those of you who don’t know their story, let me bring you up to speed.

These two people have been fated to be together for several lifetimes. Instead of being able to have their happily ever after, both of them have made choices that lead them away from each other. Their hearts continued to long for each other and their souls cried out to The Three to have mercy on them. The Goddess Fate listened and championed their cause to her brothers, Yeshua and Lucius. Together they agreed it was time these two star-crossed lovers got their happy ending. More importantly to the gods, Quinn and Jacob’s life paths crossed many others. You did see them. You just chose to ignore it. I think your heart was yearning so badly for Quinn, that you mistook what you had with Julia for what is destined to be with Quinn. You shouldn’t beat yourself up over it. You only wanted what your parents had, that once in a lifetime love that will never fade. You can have that.

I’m starting to believe it. This place has powerful magic. (his face lights up as Quinn walks through the sliding glass doors holding two large bowls of fruit.) And here’s the most powerful magic around.

What have you been saying about me out here, Mr. Hartley? (Quinn’s smile lights up her face and her eyes sparkle. I can definitely see why Jacob’s in love with her. She’s stunning!)

He’s just saying the Island has powerful magic. As a Wiccan, I have to agree. You can feel the energy here course through your veins. My skin has been tingling since we arrived. Can you feel it, Quinn?

(she stares into my eyes a moment before slowly nodding.) Yes. It was just a tingle when I first woke up here, but now after spending this time with Jake, it’s like something has reawakened inside of me. I don’t understand it.

I do. You’ve found your faith again. More importantly, you’ve found your faith in yourself and in your destiny. By the look on both of your faces, It seems we’ve come at the right time. You’ve made your decision haven’t you?

(Quinn places the bowls out on the banquet table and gestures to everyone to dig in. As we start to fill up our plates, she takes Jacob’s hand and holds it to her heart.) Yes we have. The sunrise this morning gave us both the sign we were waiting for. (Jake kisses her lips softly and smiles along with her.)

My name is Brigid Moon and I guess you could say I had a very special seat watching the journey of two of my favorite people find each other after many lifetimes of being torn apart. We can honor those who’ve gone before us, welcome their spirits into our homes and our hearts once again, and give thanks for the blessings that have been bestowed upon us throughout the year. In other words, it’s the Witch’s New Year.

My cousins love this time of year two. Unfortunately, one short month after one of the best Samhein celebrations, my cousin Daniel was killed by a drunk driver. Our family was devastated, but no one took it harder than Danny’s sister Quinn. She shut down. I tried to get through to her to let her know I could talk to him, that he wasn’t gone forever. But every time I looked in her eyes, the pain was just too raw. I prayed to the Goddess Fate to give me guidance and expected her to appear to me as she has done from time to time. Imagine my surprise to see one of the other Eternal Siblings…Lucius. Yep. The God of Trials and Tribulations himself stopped in for a chat. Sort of distracting isn’t he? 😉

Shhhhh…don’t answer that. You wouldn’t want to give him any more of an inflated ego than he already has. Trust me. One day I’ll tell you more about my run ins with the Sibling, but for now let’s just concentrate on why he was visiting me this particular time.

He told me that The Three had decided this was the lifetime Quinn was to find her always and forever, her soul mate, and the one person who she was destined to be with for all eternity. Pretty heavy stuff, huh? Well, hang on to your britches. There is more.

Fate was given permission to directly intervene this time and bring Quinn and her soul mate Jacob Hartley together on the Island, a beautiful tropical paradise where souls go to rest before continuing on with their journey in the Earth Realm, or moving on to the next lifetime. Some folks would call it Limbo, but it’s so much more than that. My cousin Danny along with his new Guardian Angel partner, Michael were given the task to convince Quinn and Jacob that their destiny together was there for the taking. All they had to do was choose to leave the Island and the love they found in each other’s arms and go back to the real world until they found each other again.

Sounds interesting? You bet it is. Their story is told by author Tammy Dennings Maggy in her Now and Forever series. I am introduced in the second book called…wait for it…The Island (Now and Forever 2) The book is due out on November 15th so keep watching for it.
