It’s Thursday Thirteen with a Touch of Texas Twang

Welcome to Behind Closed Doors. Today you are in for a real treat. My special guest today is author Ann Everett whose smart and sassy humor shines through in everything she does, especially her writing.  Her current release, You’re Busting My Nuptials is no exception. This is the second book in her trilogy telling the crazy love story between Tizzy and Ridge. To set this up a bit, I thought I would share the video trailer from the first book in the series. Laid Out and Candle Lit.

Now that you know a little more of Tizzy and Ridge’s back story, here are the first thirteen sentences of You’re Busting My Nuptials.

Twenty-four hours ago Tizzy Donovan was naked in Ridge Cooper’s bed, screaming to get God’s attention. She loved everything about Ridge. How his dark hair curled at the nape of his neck when he needed a haircut. Steel blue eyes set against the hard lines of his face. Broad shoulders, thick chest, the way he held the steering wheel of his truck. God, she could see him, standing straight, thumbs hooked in his front jeans pockets, cowboy hat settled just right. The more vivid the image, the hotter she got.

A knock at the door snapped Tizzy from her daydream. She turned from the window, as Matron of Honor, Rayann Tatum, poked her head in. She was holding a large mug and offered it to Tizzy.

“Is he here?” Tizzy gasped, accepting the drink.

Rayann flipped her long blonde hair back and widened her green eyes. “Not yet.”

“He’s not coming.” Tizzy put the cup to her lips and took a big gulp. “Oh my God!

“Sorry, I should have warned you, that’s tequila, not punch.

Intrigued? So am I! Right now, this book is only available in print through Amazon, but Ann hopes that by September 20th, all formats will be available through Amazon, iBooks, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords. Look for updates on her website for firm dates.

A Sexy Marine Looks for an Escape and finds Love…Oh MY!

Welcome everyone! I have a fantastic treat for you today. Author Kendall McKenna is my guest today sharing her book Waves Break My Fall. Not only did she bring an excerpt that will melt your panties off, she’s agreed to answer questions about her heroes Kage and Zach. Trust me, once you here about them, you will be begging to learn more!

Oh! I nearly forgot. Kendall has one more surprise for one lucky visitor:  a free ebook copy of Waves Break My Fall. All you have to do is follow the directions on at the end of today’s post. It’s easy!

So let’s bring out Kendall and grill her a bit about her two hotties!  Welcome to Behind Closed Doors, Kendall. Why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Kendall McKenna and I write M/M Erotic Romance novels. I’m very partial to U.S. Marines and law enforcement officers so they make up the majority of my characters. Today, I’m going to talk about my second title, Waves Break My Fall.

In one or two sentences, give the core premise behind your story.

A U.S. Marine is home from Afghanistan and he’s not settling back into his life well, so he flees to Puerto Vallarta for a time. While he’s there, he encounters a young man who seems to get what he’s going through and just how to handle it.

When and where does your book take place?

Present day, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

How does the time and setting weave into the plot and persona of the characters?

This story is part of Silver Publishing’s Summer Heat series, so the setting is a huge part of the story. That was part of the submission requirement. The ocean acts almost as a matchmaker for the two heroes, pulling them to the beach so it can push them together. There is even one scene that takes place in the water, and it’s a huge character moment for one hero, and lays the groundwork for the ‘rightness’ of the relationship.

Who is hero #1?

That is Kage. He’s a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps and less than two weeks out of Afghanistan.

What drives him?

Overall, Kage is driven by duty and honor. He’s good at being a Marine so he’s proud of being a Marine. More immediately, he’s suffering from PTSD, but has only just become symptomatic. He doesn’t feel at home in his own skin, so he can’t settle in at home, and it drives him to flee to Mexico.

What is he running away from (literally or figuratively)?

Kage is running from himself, the well-meaning and loving smothering attention of friends and family, memories, and nightmares.

What obstacles will he encounter in this story?

Kage’s PTSD symptoms are so powerful, and so new, they’re a constant burden for him. He’s also very aware that, while he’s proud to be a Marine and is not ashamed to have done his duty, he’s done some things in combat that would make civilians uncomfortable if they knew. As a result, he holds himself back to an extreme.

What draws him to the hero #2 in this story? What gives him that push away from him?

Immediately, Kage is drawn by simple, basic, primal, sexual attraction. His PTSD and his own insecurities have him pushing away.

What does he need to learn to make the happy ending possible?

Kage needs to learn that he’s worthy of being loved. That the man he’s falling in love with understands him, what he’s had to do, and isn’t horrified by any of it.

That can be a hard thing for anyone to overcome, especially someone who’s had to put his life on the line every moment of every day while in a war zone. What about Kage will make readers sympathetic to him?

He’s aware that he’s damaged, and he very much wants to overcome it, not succumb to it. He is also determined to conquer his issues because these issues stand between him and this wonderful man he’s just met.

So who is this wonderful hero #2?

That would Zach.

What drives him?

Ambition. Zach is a recent college graduate and he has goals and things he wants to achieve. He’s on the cusp of setting his plans into motion.

What is Zach running away from (literally or figuratively)?

He’s running from adulthood. He knows he has to go back at the end of summer and get is life started, but he’s really trying to prolong this period of his life.

Man, I remember that time in my life when it was finally time to stop being a student, put my big girl panties on and join the real world. What obstacles will Zach encounter in this story?

Zach keeps bumping into Kage’s issues! Kage’s PTSD and the emotional barriers he’s thrown up are difficult for Zach to overcome. He’s also got his own issues with past relationships and he’s struggling not to repeat his own mistakes.

What draws him to Kage? What gives him that push away from him?

Zach has the same primal sexual attraction to Kage that Kage has to him. It’s lust at first sight for them both. The push comes from Zach being a physically strong, intelligent, competent, capable, grown man, who likes his partners to be the same. He likes to be dominated in bed, but treated as an equal in life. His past partners haven’t respected that, and Zach is a little gun shy. Kage is about as big an alpha male as you can get, so you can imagine how nervous this makes Zach.

What does he need to learn to make the happy ending possible?

Zach needs to learn that Kage is the man who can dominate him in bed, but has no desire to dominate him in life. Zach has to realize that Kage doesn’t view him as weak because he likes a powerful lover. He also needs to learn that Kage is damaged and is going to be slow to heal, but Kage wants to heal.

What makes Kage infuriating to Zach, if anything?

Nothing. Kage frustrates Zach, because he’s emotionally reserved and a little insecure. Zach doesn’t understand why Kage doesn’t get just how awesome Zach thinks he is.

What makes this hero hot and lovable?

Zach is smart and sensitive and intuitive. He’s a tall, handsome man in a more traditional way, maybe a softer way than Kage is.

What about him will make readers sympathetic to him?

He’s a little bit embarrassed by his own sexual desires and it makes him endearing. He’s just so sensitive toward, and accommodating of, Kage’s issues, it’s hard not to love him.

Is the oppositional force in this story more external or internal or a little of both?

It’s all internal for them both. The ocean and Zach’s friends are all pushing these two together, but their own issues are the only real oppositional forces.

What is the theme at the heart of your story?

It’s about progress, not perfection. The right person will make you want to be a better person.

What message do you hope readers take away from this story?

Love yourself, warts and all, and others will love you, too.

That’s a lesson we all need to take to heart. It sounds like it would be the simplest thing in the world, but it is so much easier said than done. Is this book a part of a series?

Nope. It’s a one-off.  And that’s a complete lie! A lot of reviews have asked to find out what happens when Kage and Zach get home, and that’s a story I can tell. Zach’s new job and Kage dealing with PTSD is truly an entire story itself. Now, ask me if I have time to write it!

Oh I know all too well having way too many things to do and not enough time to do them in. I’m sure you will find the time at some point. Something tells me that Kage and Zach won’t let you keep them on the back burner for too long. What is the theme of the overall series and how does this story fit into that?

Relationships are hard. You have to want to do the work, you have to compromise, and you have to give more than you take.

Will these characters show up in other books in this series?

If I write it, yes, it will be all Zach and Kage Part II.

How many books do you anticipate will be in this series?

That depends on how much of their story these two tell me at any given time. It’s up to them.

What are you working on now?

I’m winding up the sequel to Brothers In Arms, and I’m about to start work on a special submission call I was asked to provide to MLR Press. It’s got a newly awakened Ancient Vampire and a newly re-born Ancient Warrior. They’re thrown together in the middle of combat in Afghanistan and for some reason, would rather make love than war. 😉

What’s coming soon?

Marine Corps Werewolves, a story called The Strength of the Pack. Also, the Ancient Vampire battling it out with the Ancient Warrior.

Wow! Paranormal Marines? Count me in! For those who want to pick up their own copy of Waves Break My Fall, where can they find it?

It’s available from Silver Publishing, but is also carried at Amazon, B&N, and ARe. Just click on the book cover at the beginning of the post, and you will be taken right to Silver Publishing’s website.

Let’s not forget. One lucky person will win a free copy of the book by following the directions in the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post. A winner will be chosen randomly on September 14th and Kendall will contact you with your prize! But before we get there, Kendall has one more treat for us. I know you’ve all been patiently waiting, so without further adieu…

Adult Excerpt

“I’m going to get you ready,” he whispered.

“I don’t need much.” Zach lifted his hips.

Kage shushed him, placing open-mouthed kisses along Zach’s jaw. Zach tilted his head back, seeking Kage’s lips. Kage kissed Zach, licking deep into his mouth. They were both breathing heavily now and the sound was loud in the otherwise quiet room.

Reaching into the drawer of the bedside table, Kage withdrew a small lube bottle and a condom. He steadied Zach with a hand on his hip and slid his fingers into Zach’s ass. If it was possible, Zach was even hotter than he had been earlier. His body opened easily for Kage’s fingers.

Twisting his wrist, Kage spread the slick inside of Zach’s tight channel. He slid his fingers out and pushed them back in to the last knuckles. Zach pushed back against him and groaned. Picking up the lube bottle again, Kage eased his fingers out of Zach’s hole.

“I’m good, I’m ready.” Zach gasped, looking over his shoulder as Kage added lube to his fingers.

“Not as ready as I want you to be,” replied Kage, pushing two slick fingers back into Zach’s ass.
Zach groaned like he was in pain and Kage almost stopped moving. “You’re gonna fucking kill me.”
Kage laughed softly. He worked his fingers in and out of Zach’s hole, ensuring a slick glide for his cock. This time, he pressed his fingertips downward into that firm gland he could find easily now.

“Oh, fuck,” Zach cried. He clutched at the pillow beneath him. “Kage.” His harsh whisper sounded like a plea.
Kage kissed the base of Zach’s spine. “I’ve got you.”

Withdrawing his fingers again, Kage lubed three of them this time. He pushed his fingers into Zach’s clenching hole, and it was like Zach’s body was drawing him in. He twisted his fingers and massaged Zach’s gland. This time, Zach shuddered violently.

“Oh, god!” Zach pleaded, “Now, please, Kage. I need you.”

Zach’s desperation hit Kage like a body blow. Blood surged into his own cock, and he was overwhelmed with the need to be inside of Zach. He eased his fingers from Zach’s hole and reached for the condom.

Struggling with trembling fingers, Kage rolled the condom onto his own hard cock. “Hold yourself open for me,” he said, trying to remember to breathe.

Zach pushed the pillow aside and drew up one knee. He hooked his arm behind his knee and pulled his leg higher, spreading his ass wide. Kage lay himself down on top of Zach, wanting to feel his heat.

“You’re so fucking gorgeous.” Kage breathed against the back of Zach’s neck. His cock ached, and he was desperate to push himself into Zach’s heat.

Reaching between their bodies, Kage lined himself up with Zach’s hole and flexed his hips. He pushed inward, slipping into Zach’s body. He groaned at the feel of Zach surrounding him and taking him in.

Zach fisted his free hand in the bedclothes. He moaned loudly, lifting his hips as if to get more of Kage’s cock inside. Kage braced his hands on either side of Zach and gave a hard thrust of his hips. He slid deep into Zach’s ass.

“Kage!” Zach’s cry was a desperate plea.

Behind Closed Doors Welcomes author K.B. Lever

Normally you would find ADULTS ONLY listed for all of my posts in this blog. I have to do that because there is explicit adult content throughout this website/blog. I write erotic romance and erotica and I don’t apologize for it. It’s my chosen genre for this pen name. That doesn’t mean from time to time I won’t host authors who write books that sort of fall in the gray zone.  My guest today is one of those. K.B. Lever writes paranormal suspense that does appeal to a young adult audience, but does have a bit of a dark side that appeals to adults. So before I go any further, I must warn any visitors.

This site contains very explicit materials intended for adults only. If you are under the age of 18, you must leave this page immediately. By choosing to continue reading this post and any others listed in the pages contained on this site, you acknowledge you are over 18 years of age and that you’ve been warned of the explicit contents presented here. Although the interview today with Ms. Lever is not in itself for adults only, I cannot in good conscience allow anyone under 18 years of age to enter. If you do, or you are a parent who is allowing your child to view this interview, you take full responsibility.

K.B. Lever

Okay, now that we have that out of the way please help me welcome author K.B. Lever to Behind Closed Doors. It’s her turn to be under the spotlight this week to answer questions about herself, what motivates her as a writer and to talk about her brand new release Manipulating the List, the first book in her Immortal Companions series. When she’s not writing, Ms. Lever is a paramedic for a large municipality in North Carolina.  Since my “evil day job” is that of a full-time veterinarian, I know full well how hard it is to juggle a family, work and writing. If anything, it does give us more material for our stories!

Gather around my friends and let’s bring out our guest and get to know her a bit better, shall we?

What inspires you to write?

Writing has always been a lifelong passion of mine. From poetry to fiction, it brings me sheer enjoyment, relaxation, and a sense of accomplishment. The idea that people want to read my work, share my stories, and are excited to talk and meet with me, simply blows my mind! I love it! Setting an example for my daughter and entertaining my fans and readers are truly what inspire me to write.

Do your stories tend to be character driven or plot driven?
I am a very open and free-minded writer. I don’t do much pre-planning for my writing. I form a very lose idea about the major twists and turns of the book and then let the characters make their way to them. I guess that would make me more plot driven.

Do you listen to music while writing? What kinds of music work best for you? Do different types of music help you for different types of scenes?
I prefer to work better in silence. I find a comfortable spot around my home or at a beautiful outdoor location and let the words flow. With the radio on, I find myself singing the songs and typing the lyrics.

Tell us about the different types of characters you like to write about? Why are these types so appealing to you?
My favorite character to use thus far is Katherine from my Immortal Companion Series. She’s a little bit clumsy, a sarcastic sense of humor, and a little fearful. I like to develop a character that people can relate to. Since I like to write from the main character’s perspective, it helps that person to dive in and picture themselves doing what she’s doing and thinking what she’s thinking. My favorite type of story is one where the reader is pulled into the story, not simply reading the words.

In what ways are your characters like you? In what ways are your characters not like you?
I think in any story you write the characters each have a small part of you. Take for example, Manipulating the List. Katherine and I are extremely similar—sarcastic, clumsy, a hopeless romantic, and fearful of the unknown, but willing to give it a try. Jonathan, the Collector, is very playful and childlike a strong part of my personality that I hope not to lose the older I get. Liam shows the inside of my heart. He is what I believe a prince should be in a happily ever after type of story. Jennifer is the newly formed close friendship that is formed in the middle of tragedy. She shows the loyalty of a close friendship and how I would treat my friends should they ever run into trouble. To develop a great character, instead of a good character, you have to recognize a little of yourself in each of the characters. It’s important to relate, for the readers and writers.

What are your favorite fiction genres to read from?
I prefer to stay in the YA, Romance, Fantasy, and General Fiction lately, mainly because I’m writing a series that fits into all of those genres. It helps to know the audience you’re trying to target. I learn what they like and what they don’t like by watching the mainstream titles that fall into these genres.

What are your favorite non-fiction genres to read from?
I don’t read many non-fiction books. I like to read as an escape and fiction is better for my getaways! I find non-fiction events that I read about give me a launching pad to make my own story.
Who are some of your favorite authors and why do you think they appeal so much to you?
I have one favorite author in particular. Nicholas Sparks. That man is a genius! He somehow manages to pull at every one of my heartstrings with each of his novels. I’m a fool for fictional romance, but not too mushy or overly sexual stuff. He seems to write it perfectly, every time!

What kinds of stories are your comfort reads when you are sick or feeling low?
My comfort reads would be things in the fantasy genre. Take for example the Twilight Series. Obviously the characters cannot exist in real life. It gives me a world to escape to from my own reality for as long as I care to indulge.

Who is your favorite all time heroine? Why do they resonate so well with you?
Scarlet OHara. I absolutely can relate to the person she became and her “Failure is not an option” personality. She was stubborn, outgoing, and dedicated to success.

Who inspires you and why? (loved ones, friends, authors, public figures, historical figures, actors, teachers etc)
Inspires me in my general life? My parents, my grandparents, and my daughter. It’s amazing when you grow up and realize exactly how much you are like your parents! (The one thing we all said we would avoid!) My parents showed a tremendous dedication to one another throughout my entire life. They led by example, disciplined as needed, and loved me with the true definition of unconditional love. My grandparents, of course showed the same things as my parents, but also added in a very strong religious background. My daughter, Ava, who is only three, is the main reason I have learned patience, understanding, and reevaluated every aspect of my life. FAMILY. It is extremely important!

Besides reading and writing, what activities do you enjoy in your leisure time?
What’s your day job? Do you like it? Why or why not? How has your job affected your personal development? How has it affected your writing life?
I try to find new things to experience every week. I’m constantly scanning the newspapers, magazines, and Internet for new things to take my daughter to. I always learned by doing and my daughter seems to have the same learning style. I enjoy horseback riding, motorcycle riding, traveling, visiting with friends, comedy clubs, reading, coffee houses, and fishing. My next adventure I’m planning involves standup paddle boarding! I’m overly excited!

At my full-time job, I work third shift for a large municipality on an ambulance. I’m a paramedic and have been working in the EMS field since I was 18. I started my career as an EMT/Firefighter and progressed through the ranks to make a Lieutenant position in the Fire department (before the birth of my daughter). With further education, I became a Paramedic Crew Chief at the ambulance service. My compassion and my patience are reinforced every day I go to work. I see a lot of things in my field that most will never see. I think it helps to tell a good story. Any experience you can relate to for a story makes it more vivid for a reader.

In one or two sentences, give the core premise behind your story.
Katherine is friends with an entity similar to Death (Jonathan aka. the Collector). He collects souls and tells Katherine about every person he collects until the day Katherine’s name appears on his list. Katherine must escape death while running from the law, falling in love, and fleeing from state to state and country to country.

When and where does your book take place?
The book takes the reader on travels around the world, but is mainly based in the United States and Australia. It takes you on a journey to places like North and South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, California, and multiple locations in Australia such as Hobart and Port Arthur.

How does the time and setting weave into the plot and persona of the characters?
The times and settings transition the characters through very different styles of life. Some of the events included in the story are based off of real life; large incidents that actually took place in history.

Who is the heroine?
Our beloved Katherine Elizabeth Sheppard. You’ll see her life transition from the age of 6 to 22.

What drives her?
What better to drive a heroine than her heart? She feels the need to help her best friend and stay with the love of her life.

What is she running away from (literally or figuratively)?
She wishes she could run away! This is where my story differs. She isn’t running away from anything, she’s running toward it. Katherine must assist the Collector in collecting souls. She has to help him find the next victims, meet them at the proper collection time, and hand them over to Jonathan.

So she has to do this in order to keep Jonathon from getting to her on the list…that has to be maddening for her at times.

What obstacles will she encounter in this story?
Katherine has to travel throughout multiple locations, run from the police, save her best friend, protect her love, and stay alive!

What draws her to the hero in this story? What gives her that push away from him?
Depends who you want to call the hero in the story. Is it her best friend or is it her heart’s true love? Jonathan or Liam?

This is where I’m partial. 😉 My muse/husband’s name is Liam so he is and will always be the hero for me. So when I see a character with his name, I automatically see him in that light. Hope he is that in your book!

What about her will make readers sympathetic toward Katherine?
The entire novel is an inner struggle within herself. Should she compromise her morals and assist in killing people simply to stay alive or should she allow herself to die and be transitioned into the afterlife? I believe everyone faces an inner struggle at some point in his or her life. Everyone eventually experiences death. It’s a struggle that everyone should be able to understand.

Is there a villain? Who is he? What’s he like? Why is he/she the way they are? What motivates him/her to cause oppositional force to the characters? Without giving any spoilers, can you give a hint as to what sort of opposition he/she gives to the main characters?
There are multiple villains in Manipulating the List. I don’t want to give much away, so I’ll refrain from saying much more.

Oh! You are such a tease!

What is the theme at the heart of your story?
Living your life to the fullest. Enjoying what you have.

What message do you hope readers take away from this story?
This story isn’t made to send a strong message. It’s simply made for entertainment. I want the story to end and the reader to be scrambling to find the 2nd book (which is set to release in Feb – if not sooner.)

Is this book a part of a series?
Yes, It’s the Immortal Companion Series. It’s a set of 3. Book 2 is currently in the works with about 5 chapters completed and I’m hoping to have it ready for release in Feb. 2013. We may press the date forward if we don’t get bogged down by the upcoming holidays.

What is the theme of the overall series and how does this story fit into that?
The theme changes slightly through each of the books, but unfortunately the books are so tightly woven to one another that I really can’t tell you much about the rest of the series for fear of ruining the first book! I’m really excited about the rest of the series. I thought book 1 was excellent, but really they’re only getting better as we go along!

Will these characters show up in other books in this series?
Absolutely!

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on the Immortal Companion Series, but also am working on a YA romance novel that I hope to release in late 2013. I have a title picked, but I want to wait until the book gets a little further along to release it.

I’d like to add a general comment. Please provide feedback for my novels. I love to hear what my reader’s opinions are. Good or bad, they will help me become a better writer.

Thank you so much for sharing with us today, Karen! I look forward to the next books in your Immortal Companions series and invite you to visit again with us soon.

                                         BLURB

Archaeologist Rylie Sawyer unknowingly unearthed a cursed pendant that seduces and kills. Desperate to keep others safe, Rylie plans on using her empathic abilities to steal the pendant back. The day of the heist, she discovers she isn’t the only one going after the pendant.

Trey Masters has secretly watched Rylie from afar for the last two years. He will stop at nothing to protect Rylie, even entrapping her with his abilities. All he needs to do now is keep her out of the game while his team acquires the pendant.

From the moment they meet they have an intense and otherworldly bond. Together, they must use their powers to destroy the pendant. Caught by the scars of the past year, Rylie knows she must trust Trey with her life. As the secrets Trey is keeping are revealed, will she trust the man she’s fallen hard for or run away?

Still not convinced? Well how about a scorching hot ADULT excerpt?

His mouth crushed over hers in a passionate kiss. She moaned as he used the cold cobblestone to hold her up. Trey’s hands came around to lift her legs around his waist. He smoothed his hands up her thighs and reached around to get a nice squeeze of her ass. Rylie twined her arms around his neck and kissed him fully. Her tongue slipped into his mouth and took control. He groaned.

A small part of her realized she was submitting to his touch and that burned. She was losing every part of her life she had control over.

He pulled his mouth away to nibble on her neck and scraped his teeth up over her earlobe. His heated breath whispered over her ear. “I’m going to make you mine.”

She shivered as his hand moved up her belly to squeeze her breast. He didn’t stop there. His hand stroked up the front of her neck, caressing her thrumming heartbeat. His thumb lifted her chin so that their eyes met. His lips brushed over hers, testing her boundaries. Her pussy clenched tightly. She wanted this and was frightened she would get it.

“Masters.”

“Fuck. I like it when you say my last name,” he growled.

She groaned as his cock pinned her to the wall, pushing her pussy lips open. He kissed her again. She could feel the throbbing beat of his cock as he worked her mouth over. Trey slid his hand down to the button on her jeans, flicking it open with an ease that spoke of experience. Her zipper flew south half a second later.

Rylie broke her mouth away as his hand smoothed over her satin bikinis. He rubbed fast circles over her clitoris, making it stand up and pulsate. She sucked in a harsh breath as his fingers pulled her panties aside and they were skin on skin. She wet his fingers as they dove between her lips in a gentle, erotic push.

He thumbed his way up over her nubbin, rolling it around with the pad of his thumb like a joystick. Rylie was getting close. She could feel her orgasm building to a frenzy. All of a sudden, Trey started to hold back. She was balanced on the edge.

“Open your eyes, Rylie. Look at me.”

Her eyes flew open and her nails dug into his rock hard shoulders. “Trey.”

“When was the last time a man got you off?”

Her foggy and sexed-up brain was slow to understand his question. “Um, you mean you don’t know? I thought you knew everything about me.”

“Answer me, Rylie. When was it?”

“College.”

He groaned. “Tell me you’ve been taking care of your sex.”

She chuckled, a deep, husky sound. “Wouldn’t you like to see that?”

“You have a sassy mouth when you’re aroused.”

“Do I?”

“Yes. Keep your eyes open. I want to see them dilate when you come.”

“You can’t make me.”

He stopped playing with her pussy to drive his point home. The loss of friction and more importantly, his kisses, made her realize how much she wanted Trey to touch her everywhere. She tried to move but he stopped her with a rough pinch to her ass that locked her body down tight to his. He licked and kissed his way down her neck and back up again. His eyes locked with hers.

“When we’re together, you’re mine. You’ll do everything and anything I want.”

He edged the knuckle of his forefinger up and locked her clit between his finger and thumb. She groaned as he emphasized his point by squeezing her clit. Pleasure exploded through her body. He rolled it tighter. Her core tightened and her pussy contracted hard.

“Eyes open,” he groaned.

His demand was an order she dared not refuse. Rylie cried out as her orgasm stole her breath away. She bit her lip as she held his gaze. The muscles in his face and body were flexed taut as he watched her go. There was something animalistic about the way he drank up every last drop of her reaction. The primal need to mate was a tribal beat vibrating between them.

Rylie squirmed, rocking her hips as he held her in his seductive grip, not releasing her clit at all. Her body wet more, causing his knuckles to slip back into her pussy.

Rylie was still riding the top note of her orgasm as he lifted her higher on his hips. He reached down with his other hand to pull the corners of her jeans aside as though he were opening a neatly wrapped gift. He reached in with both hands, grabbing the cotton band of her panties. She gasped as he gently tugged, slipping her panties into a reversed thong. He twisted the cotton into his fist while his fingers went exploring.

The Spotlight is on…Elodie Parkes

Once again it’s time to fire up the spotlights and shine them on the couch on center stage. In just a few moments, my guest author Elodie Parkes will join us. Her newest novel was just released and she’s graciously agreed to spend a little time with us today talking about that and herself.  So gather around, get comfortable and join me in welcoming Elodie to Behind Closed Doors.

Thank you for agreeing to be with us today, Elodie. How about we get started with the questions about you as a writer.  What inspires you to write?

People and emotions inspires me. The complexity of life spurs me to write.

Are you a plotter or panster or a little of both?

I start to write with the ideas and characters already in my head. It generally just flows because I know the story I want to tell.

Do your stories tend to be character driven or plot driven?

Both I think, although with a greater emphasis on the characters.

Do you listen to music while writing? What kinds of music work best for you? Do different types of music help you for different types of scenes?

I listen to nothing when I am writing (laughs) even if something is on, you know TV or CD I can’t hear it. I go into my writing and that’s it, I’m completely unavailable to the world and its noise.

Tell us about the different types of characters you like to write about? Why are these types so appealing to you?

I write about composites of people I have met, seen, or noticed in real life. I think there is a lot of loneliness out there in the real world and I like to give those characters I create love, friends and for them to grow too.

What are your favorite fiction genres to read from?
Well I read heaps of books and genre hop. I have no favorite author, as I love so many author’s work. I read a whole lot of paranormal romance. I read Science Fiction, mystery, contemporary romance. I read reference books too, usually, art, art history, and some business books. I’ve read all William Gibson’s books. I’ve read hundreds of books, as it’s one of my favorite pastimes. I’m reading ‘Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter’ right now.

Who are some of your favorite authors and why do you think they appeal so much to you?
Well as I said I don’t have a real favorite author but I can say, I like Philip K Dick because his Sci-fi is so creative and intelligent, Robert Goddard because he is forever re-inventing, Sue Grafton because how do you write am alphabet of detective crime that is entertaining consistently like her ?
Christine Feehan because she just goes for it (smiles).

What kinds of stories are your comfort reads when you are sick or feeling low?
Sexy, erotic romance HEA’s

What inspires you and why? (Art, poetry, music, movie, book, etc. Please share something specific if you like.)
People inspire me, just in general life. Art is a favorite of mine but it has not so far inspired a book. I think it’s life and the way we all live. I write romance, erotic romance because I think we need more love in the world. Real love I mean, acceptance, caring and camaraderie.

Besides reading and writing, what activities do you enjoy in your leisure time?
What’s your day job? Do you like it? Why or why not? How has your job affected your personal development? How has it affected your writing life?
I run about with my dogs Celt and Chaucer. I trawl through antiques fairs and markets as I do love this.
I work in a shop, an antiques shop and I meet a huge variety of people who often give me ideas. For instance for my book ‘Millie Reinvented’ I did have inspiration from a customer. I was talking to a young woman who was in the antiques shop where I work and she was buying a little sculpture of two lovers kissing. She said she had to have it because it was so nice to look at, as her husband didn’t even kiss her anymore. I couldn’t say anything I just wrapped the item, and stored the thought until the story burst out onto my laptop.

Congratulations on your new release, The Horoscope Writer. In one or two sentences, give us the core premise of the story.

Life is stranger than you think. Everyone needs and wants real love and a lifelong love.

When and where does your book take place?
The Horoscope Writer take place in rural/urban United Kingdom in 2012.

Who is the heroine?
Cassandra Thomson

What drives her?
Her childhood experience of being a disappointment to her parents. Her artistic talent. Her need to be loved.

What draws her to the hero in this story?
She is drawn to Dominic the hero because he is unusual, creative as she is, (he’s a writer). He is unknowingly broadcasting desire for her and she needs that.

Who is the hero?
Dominic Reed

What drives him?
His loneliness, his past experience, and his strange inheritance from his great uncle.

What draws him to the heroine in this story?
Her looks initially and then her trust and love for him. (Smiles)

Rumor has it, you’re working on your next novel. What’s it called?

The Last Time

Now let’s get a look at your new release The Horoscope Writer.  You are all in for a real treat. Elodie has brought an excerpt for us today as well as a short blurb.

Blurb

When Dominic Reed looks out of his study window and sees Cassie, he’s not sure what to make of her at first. That’s before he sees her lovely gray eyes and pretty skin. He’s a writer and works alone, which to his sadness has become his way of life.

When he asks Cassie to have coffee with him, it’s the start of an intoxicating romance for the both of them. If only Dominic didn’t have to hide some of his writing, if only he hadn’t inherited a strange gift from his great uncle Aubrey. Cassie ignites a passion in Dominic that he has never felt before, and he seeks for a way to bind her to him.

Cassie is an artist and when she falls in love with Dominic she paints him a picture of his wonderful back garden where they have made love, little knowing that it will have a special effect on Dominic.

Excerpt

Dominic stood back and pulled off his sweater, and then almost tore the buttons of Cassie’s shirt open to reach her breasts. He pushed her bra down to her waist exposing her breasts and cupping them in his hands. Cassie’s breath was coming in gasps as Dominic sucked on her nipples, and then turned her around to clasp her to him, and kiss down her neck from behind. With his other hand, he unzipped her jeans and slid his hand down her stomach.

Cassie was desperate to feel his fingers inside her, and she arched towards his hand, pushing her jeans down for him to reach her. Dominic moved his fingers down to reach her wet and throbbing for him.

He held her gently around her neck to reach her jaw and bring her head back to kiss her lips. With his fingers inside her, his tongue in her mouth, and his own hard desire pressing against her bottom Cassie moaned as she came. She was weak from the sensation, and Dominic was groaning low and whispering something to her. She turned her head more bringing her arms up around his head to keep his kiss on her lips.

“I need you so much”, Dominic was whispering, and he gently pressed her to bend across his kitchen table. Cassie knew what was going to happen and she craved it. Dominic pushed down his own jeans to free his erection before the hardness killed him. He was tender as he pushed into Cassie from behind, holding her around her breasts so that she was not pushed hard against the polished wood. He slid into her and thrust deep wanting her to come again as she sighed with the pleasure of his hands on her breasts, her hips, and the way he filled her.

Dominic was in love with her but she ignited a sexual need in him that drove him to thrust hard, and he let go of her breasts to bring his fingers to her bud at the same time as he thrust into her. Cassie couldn’t breathe as she came again, and gasped his name. “Dominic”.

Elodie Parkes, it’s been a pleasure having you with us today. I hope you will come back again soon when your next book is available for us to read. Until then we’ll catch up with you and your latest novel updates online.

The Island has been accepted for publication!

Yesterday I received wonderful news. My publisher has accepted The Island (Now and Forever 2). They’ve set a tentative November release for the ebook version and April 2013 for the print version. As most of you know, this book started off as a short story “A Christmas Miracle for Jake.” I posted it here on this blog during a blog hop at the end of last year. It was in three parts.

Here are the links to those posts so you can get a little sneak peek at the story.

Part One  Part Two  Part Three

Of course it’s evolved a lot since then and I’ve developed Julia’s story into her own book too.  If I can get that one done and submitted, I may have two new books released before the end of the year. I’m not going to force it. If Julia’s story flows well then so be it. I want to be happy with it before sending it in for consideration. As you know, characters want their story told and they don’t give a rip about deadlines! 😉

To celebrate, I’d like to share the song that I heard in my head when I wrote the love scenes between Quinn and Jacob for The Island.

Enjoy!

Can Friends Become Lovers?

Find it on Amazon

I’m excited to welcome new author Jessica Slater to Behind Closed Doors for our Saturday Spotlight. She’s published a young adult novel called Bellvara, and now takes a turn at a more adult crowd in Life Shifted. So let’s get on with the interview and learn more about her new book and a bit more about herself as an author.

What inspired you to write Life Shifted?

I was inspired mainly by my past for Life Shifted. The past that my partner, Luke and I endured was a very hectic one but it inspired me to write about our history together.

Were you a plotter or panster when it came to writing this novel?

With Life Shifted I planned every detail of it. What the chapters were going to be called and a little summary of what they would entail. It definitely made writing it easier.

Did you find that this book was more character or plot driven?

Most definitely character driven. The characters Kelly and Ben are based on both me and my boyfriend and most of the other characters were randomly put in the book. (some were actual people in our lives but I want to keep that a secret).

What are the recurring core issues? Why do you think you are drawn to these types of characters/plots again and again?

I definitely tend to write a lot about a stronger female stance. I guess I’m trying to portray what I want to be in my books. I don’t always see myself as a strong person, but I write my female characters as very independent and the heroes of the story. That is kind of what I want to be in real life. I am studying to be a teacher, so I guess I just want to help people, be someone to look up too.

What do you want readers to know about Life Shifted?

The main thing I want readers to know before they delve into Life Shifted is that I drew a lot of it from my past with my boyfriend. So if anything sounds out of place, trust me, it isn’t. There were some things added into the book for extra dramatic effect but most of the things were our actual experiences. I hope people can take something away from my book.

Who inspires you and why?

There are many people who inspire me all the time. My mum is a big inspiration to me with all her fantastic writing. Kim Faulks is also inspirational as she helped me get my book out there and helped me self-publish it. Richelle Mead, Lauren Kate and Cate Tiernan are all a big inspiration to me. I read their books and want my work to be considered just as good. Another person who is a big inspiration is my modern history teacher from last year. She always knew I had it in me to succeed and she kept pushing me. I also find my little sister, Katy Slater to be an inspiration as she helps me get my books ready to go out into the world. The biggest inspiration of all though is definitely my boyfriend, Luke Fuller, without him I would never have finished ‘Bellvara’ and I never would have written Life Shifted.

In one or two sentences, give the core premise behind your story.

Life Shifted is definitely a dramatic type of book with a lot of love and romance involved. It delves into a life of tragedy and horrific events.

When and where does your book take place?

Life Shifted takes place in the present time. I never really state where it is set because I wanted to leave that open but basically just a small type of town like Warwick, QLD or Stanthorpe, QLD… something like that.

What obstacles will your heroine Kelly encounter in this story?

This story is definitely tragic for Kelly. Her best friend is in love with her but she doesn’t feel the same way so she goes through a lot of drama and obstacles to try and stabilize her friendship with Ben but nothing seems to go right for her. She just gets thrown one thing after another.

What about her will make readers sympathetic to her?

There is a really emotional stage in the book where her grandmother, whom she was really close to, dies and I drew that experience from when my pa died which was very upsetting for me because I was extremely close with him and I never got to see him before he went or go to his funeral.

What obstacles will Ben encounter in this story?

Ben goes through just as much as Kelly in this story. He experiences his first girlfriend and finds it doesn’t go to well for him. The only one he really wants is Kelly but she won’t have it. Everything keeps going wrong for him and he is forced to think about whether Kelly is worth it or not.

What about Ben will make readers sympathetic towards him?

I think the biggest thing that will make readers sympathetic towards Ben is the fact that he loves Kelly more than anything and he defends her all the time but nobody what he does he still isn’t good enough for her and it tears him up.

Is there a villain?

There are actually many villains in Life Shifted; around four or five. They each have different motives to hurt Kelly and Ben but I can’t give too much away.

What is the theme at the heart of your story?

The theme of my story is love and finding out what it means; giving it a chance to blossom from something you never thought possible.

What message do you hope readers take away from this story?

The main message I want readers to take away from Life Shifted is that love and romance is such an important thing. It may not be top priority but it is important to have it in your life. I also want people to learn not to be so shallow or not to look past what might be. Life Shifted is mostly based on my past and I regret the fact that I didn’t realize my feelings for my partner sooner. I guess I’m saying give something a chance instead of blowing it off completely. The results may surprise you.

What are you working on now?

I am working on the second book in the Bellvara series at the moment and also a completely separate book. It is set in Roman times and it is called ‘Last Touch’.

What’s coming soon?

‘Last Touch’ will probably come out next year some time because I want to do more research on the topic and get it as close to fantastic as I can and the second book to Bellvara called ‘Snake of the Elves’ will probably be out at the end of this year. That is what I am aiming for.

Do you have a question you’d like to ask the readers to generate comments?

My question to the readers is:
What were/are your experiences in love? Do you have an epic tale to tell?

Thursday Thirteen from Lori King’s Fire of the Wolf

It’s Thursday once again and I’m happy to welcome Lori King to Behind Closed Doors today. This is the third guest appearance she’s done for me and my alter ego Lia Michaels completing a nice little circuit of hot and spicy interviews and excerpts from her book Fire of the Wolf. It’s actually the first in a series with the second one due for release in just a few months. Trust me. Once you read the snippets she’s shared with us here and on the other blogs, you will want to have this book as well as get in line to pre-order book two. I’ll be right there with you!

Available from Siren Bookstrand

Fire of the Wolf (The Gray Pack Book 1) By Lori King
Pages: 187
Publisher: Siren Bookstrand
Blurb:
[Ménage Amour: Erotic Paranormal Ménage a Tois Romance, M/F/M, werewolves, HEA]
Introverted nurse Caroline Trainor’s apartment burns to the ground, and she is rescued by a sexy fireman. Waking up in the hospital, she finds the delicious fireman and his identical twin brother waiting for her.
Devin and Damon Gray claim that they are alpha leaders of a pack of werewolves, and that she is destined to be their mate. Her logical nature resists this unreal situation, but her body craves their every touch. Struggling with unresolved pain from her past and her need for her own identity, she has no desire to be their house wolf—until another wolf pack’s alpha threatens their lives and relationship with a challenge to the death.
Scared to lose the men she has grown to love like she lost her parents, she runs directly into the arms of the lethal alpha challenger, and the brothers must save her before they all wind up dead.
(Note: There is no sexual relationship or touching for titillation between or among siblings.)

First Thirteen Sentences

Sweat trickled down her brow and into her eyes as Caroline belly crawled down the hallway as fast as her burning lungs would allow. The acrid smell of smoke made her nose run, and stinging tears spilled down her cheeks. She couldn’t give up and go back. She knew that Molly and Tyler were in the apartment down the hall from hers, and she had to get to them, had to help them.

When the smoke alarm in her apartment went off just minutes ago, Caroline nearly jumped out of her skin. She couldn’t smell the smoke until she opened her apartment door, and found the hallway outside filled with a thick black fog of it. Her mind flashed immediately to a smiling Tyler, who had been playing in the hallway just a couple of hours ago with a baseball and glove, waiting for her to come home from work so that he could show her that he lost another tooth. She had laughed and hugged him while she walked him to his apartment door, and waved a quick hello to his mom, Molly. Molly had invited her into the apartment for dinner, but after a twelve-hour shift at the hospital, Caroline just craved quiet.

She had unloaded her work bag, purse, and jacket just inside her apartment door, then she stripped her clothes off for a hot shower, only stopping on the way to snag a bottle of wine and a glass from her tiny kitchen. After a steaming hot shower to scald away the tension in her muscles, and a full glass of wine, she slipped on her comfiest yoga pants and tank top. Then she had settled onto the couch to watch her favorite Thursday-night TV programs.
Roughly sixty minutes later as she crawled for all she was worth, all Caroline could think about was Tyler and Molly trapped in their apartment and scared, or worse.

Now doesn’t that get your heart thumping? You have to get your own copy of this book to find out what happened to Caroline, Tyler and Molly. So click on the cover above and it will take you directly to Siren’s webpage where you can get Fire of the Wolf in any e-book format you need. Not sure what format your e-reader needs? Not a problem. There is an easy to follow help section on the site to help you purchase and download your copy today.  And don’t forget book two, Reflections of the Wolf is due out in October 2012.

Update on the Now and Forever Series

Since the last entry here, I actually finished the first “draft” of The Island to my publisher. I got a request to revise it and basically split it into two books. Not that it was too long for one book, I just had too much going on. I needed to focus on one couple at a time so to speak.

Well, I took that advice to heart and now have The Island and The Surrender of Julia as book two and three respectively. I’m so glad I did that! Not only did I get to delve deeper into the world of the wickedly beautiful Julia Santos, I got to spend more time with Jake and Quinn building on their full love story and with both books, I got to bring in more of the paranormal element.

As a Wiccan, I believe in more than just one God or Goddess. I wove that into the story having characters who are also Wiccan, and introducing The Three as basically my version of the Trinity. There is Yeshua the Elder God/brother who is the Creator. The Goddess Fate or Lady Fate as I call her in in charge of Destiny. Then there is the “youngest” Sibling, the God of Trials and Tribulations, better known as Lucius. Without The Three working together there would be Chaos.  At times it would seem that Lucius works against his Siblings in order to prove that humans aren’t worthy of the blessings Yeshua has bestowed upon them. In actuality, Lucius puts the humans through the tests in order to be sure they are worthy. It’s up to them to choose the right paths in each life time to get the blessings. If they don’t, then they keep trying life time after life time until they get it right.

Quinn and Jacob are true soul mates. Through each and every life time, they search for each other, but through their own choices, are pulled apart repeatedly. Their hearts cry out to Lady Fate every time and finally she’s had enough. She wants to intervene by way of the Island. She hopes if they get to be together in that paradise, both will finally be able to choose the one path leading them back into each other’s arms. She enlists the help of two guardian angels to help gently nudge and guide them down the right direction.

These same angels will have their hands full. Not only do they have to convince Quinn and Jacob to go back to the Earthly realm to find each other again, they have to watch over several other people. Some have already crossed the path of our fated lovers, and others they have yet to meet.

I believe we are not alone and that other beings are there to help us get through life’s challenges if only we ask.  Why should we go through life thinking it’s all just random and chance? Why should my characters? That’s why I wanted to bring in the Gods and the Goddess into Quinn’s story. That’s why I made their guardian angels people they knew: Quinn’s brother Danny and Jacob’s father Michael. Being able to see, hear, and touch their loved ones again, helps to build up their faith in the promise given to them by The Three. This time was in fact their time to be together. Nothing and no one would ever tear them apart again.

In that light, here’s the music that often runs through my head when I think of Jacob and Quinn’s love story. In the first book we got to see just about everything through Quinn’s perspective, but in The Island we get to see a broken man finally find his way back to the one person who could complete him heart and soul.

Lies, Betrayal, Heartbreak, Oh MY!

I’ve never been too fond of Mondays until I started up Oh My! Mondays to showcase steamy hot excerpts from some fantastic authors. This week I’m thrilled to welcome back to Behind Closed Doors, my friend and fellow Siren author, Amber Lea Easton. Today she’s sharing an excerpt that will melt your panties off and leave you begging for more.  Would you risk it all for a chance to get your happily ever after or are you the type who is afraid to take any chances at all? Let’s see what Amber has to say about taking risks…

Available now from Bookstrand

Risk: a word that terrifies some people. Artists take risks when they put their heart on display for the world to judge. Policemen, firefighters, and military take risks when they rush in when we’re rushing out.
We human beings take risks all the time whether we’re conscious of it or not–when we decide to call the guy back, make eye contact with that hottie we’ve been daydreaming about for weeks, quit our jobs for something better, leave a relationship that’s comfortable for the unknown, buy that dress that’s more seductive than our “usual style” or reinvent ourselves so we can live the life we’ve always dreamed. All of those are risks that may not be life-threatening, but can certainly feel like it.
In Riptide, my hero and heroine have learned the hard way that people lie, that betrayal is too easy for some, but they risk being hurt again when they open their hearts to one another.
That’s what love is about…trusting one other person with your raw and open heart, letting go of the fear of rejection for that adrenaline rush, breaking down the walls that protect you, and risking it all for your chance at happily ever after. It’s not easy ..but, as they saying goes, nothing worthwhile ever is.

Blurb from Riptide

One violent night shatters Lauren Biltmore’s life. As an anchorwoman, she’s accustomed to reporting the news rather than being the lead story. She escapes the spotlight by fleeing to her brother’s home in the Cayman Islands. Haunted by nightmares, all she wants is a distraction from reality.

Distraction arrives via sexy screenwriter Noah Reynolds. His take-me-to-bed looks mask a past ripe with scandal. He knows he should stay away from Lauren, especially when the worst night of her life unlocks his writer’s block and while he’s dealing with a stalker of his own, but ethics are his weakness.

Attraction sizzles beneath Caribbean sunshine. As their relationship grows, Noah’s stalker intensifies her torment. Lauren wonders if her paranoia is justified or a carryover from her past. What’s real? What’s imagined?

Tentative trust is tested as their love is swept up against a riptide of deceit, murder, and revenge.

Adult Excerpt

“Hey, sexy lady.” He sat behind her, pulled her between his legs and rested his chin on her shoulder. “What do you think of my boat now?”

She sipped her wine before tilting her head to look at him. “There’s more to it than meets the eye, kind of like the captain.”

“Captain, huh?” He moved her hair and kissed the back of her neck. “I don’t suppose I could get you to call me sir for a few hours?”

“Oh, I see what your game is.” She laughed and leaned her head back to allow him easier access to her neck. “Whatever you say, sir. Your boat, your rules.”

“Good answer.” His mouth toyed with her earlobe. “I like having you all to myself. Seems like we’re always interrupted at the house.”

She twisted her head to look him in the eye. “Are you thinking about the house?”

“Not right now.” He brushed her hair from her face. Damn, she was beautiful.

He kissed her neck. She tasted like salt air and citrus. He unzipped her dress and smoothed his hands over her bare back. When his fingers slipped over her ribs, he heard her sharp intake of breath. Smiling against her neck, he moved his hands over her breasts. Squeezed. His mouth toyed with her ear. He liked the way her breasts filled his hands perfectly, as if they were made for him.

He kissed the line of her jaw as his hands slid over her flat abdomen. He felt the scar and traced it with his thumbs before sliding his hands back over her breasts.

Her hand gripped the back of his head as she ground her lips against his. Her mouth was wet and urgent beneath his, her tongue insistent.

He pulled the dress from her shoulders before pushing her down. Dragging his mouth from hers, he raised up enough to look down at her bare torso. Stunned by the intensity of emotion that flooded through him, he buried his face between her breasts and pinned her wrists against her sides.

Wine spilled. Both the bottle and glasses rolled toward the edge.

His mouth made love to first one breast and then the other. He savored every inch of her skin. She squirmed beneath him, but he refused to release her wrists. She needed to surrender, to enjoy being worshipped.

“Noah, please,” she said, her squirming making him insane with desire. “I need you inside me. Please. You’re torturing me.”

He slid down, his teeth pulled at the silky material of her panties. He released her wrists and moved his hands over her naked torso as his teeth worked her panties lower over her hips.

“Damn it, Noah. You’re killing me.”

He smiled against her hipbone. “Relax. We’re gonna get there.”

He pulled her panties and her dress from her legs and tossed them aside without looking away from her body. He ran his hands up her long legs, kissed the inside of her knees, licked the inside of her thighs, tasted the center of her, felt her body contract around his fingers as he slid them inside her. Wet and hot, she tasted sweet and intoxicating.

Her body arched beneath his mouth. Her hands were in his hair. She moaned his name over and over.

He kissed a trail over her abdomen, lingered again on her breasts, moved to her neck before merging his mouth with hers. She pulled his shirt off of his shoulders while he fumbled with the zipper of his shorts with one hand. Muttering something against his mouth, she pushed hard until he rolled onto his back, taking her with him.

She bent over him, hair trailing across his face as she kissed his neck and chest. Her hands pulled his shorts low, reached for his penis before her tongue licked the tip. He rolled his head back and gasped for air.

“Condom in my pocket,” he said between gritted teeth.

She knelt over him, hair blowing across her face as she rummaged in the pocket of his shorts for the condom.

“Give it here.” Propped on an elbow, he grabbed the package and ripped it open. Damn, he needed to be inside this woman with an urgency he hadn’t felt in years—if ever. The need pulsated through his veins and reverberated in his ears.

And then she was on him, rocking, hair blowing across her face, hands pressing against his chest, breasts moving with her rhythm, body silhouetted by stars in a night sky. She looked like a sea goddess having her way with him. He grabbed her waist and ground his hips against hers. She leaned over and kissed him with an urgency that shook him like an earthquake.

He rolled her back over and thrust into her again and again, needing to go deep. They were a tangle of limbs as their bodies merged in a desperate dance. Mouths found one another. Breath caught between them. When he climaxed, he let out a shout. She laughed—breathless—her nails scratching down his back.

“I can’t get enough of you.” Her breath brushed against the sweat of his neck.

“I know what you mean.” He muttered against the top of her head. “Damn, I want to do that again.” He kissed her forehead. “And again.” He kissed her lips and lingered. “And again.”

“Stay inside me. Don’t move.” She fisted her hands in his hair and looked him in the eye. “I think my dress blew overboard.”

He laughed, enjoying the feel of her legs still wrapped around him. “Do you care?”

“Not even a little bit.” She kissed him, eyes wide open.

He held her head close and looked into her eyes. Despite everything—her history, the note on his door, the mess he was in, her pain from the past and uncertainty about the future—she was brave enough to be here with him naked on the bow of his boat surrounded by deep water and darkness.

“I was right that day at The Lazy Turtle when I said you were dangerous,” he said against her lips. “You’re the most dangerous woman I’ve ever met.”

Amber Lea Easton is a multi-published fiction and nonfiction author. For twenty years, she’s worked in the fields of journalism and advertising with a brief detour into the financial industry. Although she holds a BA in Communications & Journalism, she is a perpetual student of life who enjoys taking post-graduate courses on a wide variety of subjects when time allows. Smart is sexy, according to Easton, which is why she writes about strong female characters who have their flaws and challenges, but who ultimately persevere.
Easton currently lives with her two teenagers in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where she gives thanks daily for the gorgeous view outside her window. She finds inspiration from traveling, the people she meets, nature and life’s twists and turns. At the end of the day, as long as she’s writing, she considers herself to be simply “a lucky lady liv’n the dream.”
