Behind Closed Doors Welcomes Author Sylvia Ryan

I’m excited to have one of my fellow Siren authors join me today on Behind Closed Doors.  She writes for Siren’s Menage Amour line and her very first book with them was rated SCORCHING!  So come on in and visit with Sylvia for a bit and then check out the steamy excerpt from Saved by One, Shared by Two.~

You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture.

Just get people to stop reading them.  —  Ray Bradbury

Author Sylvia Ryan

Okay, let’s talk books. But instead of shamelessly plugging my book (which I’m sure I’ll be able to fit in somewhere later on) I’d like to issue a holiday challenge to you. Yes…you! For many of us readers, it took just one really good book sometime in our early adolescence to suck us in and hook us on reading for life. Mine was Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews, and I bet you can remember the one book that got you started too.

I know, I know this sounds like a lame public service announcement, but I’m going to challenge you by asking that along with the cds, video games, and clothes you buy for the kids on your list this year, add an excellent young adult book for a kid on your list. Make a deal with the recipient that the two of you will read the book at the same time. Take them out to lunch when you’re done. At the very least, you’ll have an opportunity to have a conversation—interact with them on a deeper level than just asking how school is going. And maybe, just maybe, you may have opened up a world to them that they’ll enjoy for a lifetime, and that’s a win/win situation for everybody.

Now let’s talk about my book. First let me warn you, I do not write young adult books, so please don’t buy my book for your favorite young adult, or they’re going to have a lot of things to talk to you about during that lunch! But I do invite you guys to check out my erotic romance, Saved by One, Shared by Two. It’s my first, and only published book, and it’s getting great reviews. If you’re into ménage, strong heroines and alpha males, you’re going to love this book. Check it out on Goodreads.

I also have to thank my hostess, Tammy for letting me rant and then shamelessly plug my book.

Blurb for Saved by One, Shared by Two

Survival…that’s all Julia was hoping for when she set off alone. The EMP left nothing working, and civilization crumbled rapidly. Her plan to flee to safety failed and she lay dying when Arden found her. He brought her home and saved her life.

Julia has no choice but to wait out the winter with sweet, sexy Arden and his seductive best friend, Ben. She tries to ignore the sexual tension and constant temptation of living with the men, but eventually she gives in to each man’s seduction. When both men come to the realization that they are in love with Julia, their lifelong friendship prevents them from competing for her. So, a deal is struck between them. She will accept and love them together, or not at all.

ADULT EXCERPT (For Readers 18 and over)

Ben took Julia’s hand and led her to her feet and over toward Arden. Julia climbed on top of Arden’s lap, one leg on either side. She positioned herself over his hardened crest and pierced herself on Arden’s cock. She took him quickly into her with a moan of pleasure. Arden placed his arms around her, stilling her and pulling her body flat to his chest. He stroked her back and hair while holding her in this intimate embrace.

“If you want to stop, just tell me,” he whispered in her ear. She knew then what they wanted. They had never tried this before. Julia’s response to Arden’s whisper was a groan of need.

“Ride me, Julia,” he said as he started moving her hips with his hands. They were chest to chest, Arden inside her to the hilt, her clit rubbing rhythmically against the base of his cock.

Julia sensed Ben coming up behind her before he even touched her. He caressed his hand down the center of her back. She knew he was in no hurry. He just watched her and Arden lazily moving against each other.

Ben found her small rear entry with his finger and rubbed teasingly before penetrating the tight little hole with his finger.

Julia’s immediate push back, penetrating herself deeper onto his finger, prompted a loud “yes,” from her lips. Ben added another finger to the penetration of her tiny, tight anus, and she rode Arden’s cock and Ben’s fingers slowly, relaxing a little.

Ben worked his fingers, stretching her as she moved on them. Julia knew Ben had been working up to this in the past few months, trying to make her ready to receive his cock in her ass. She was ready, both physically and emotionally. She knew he would never hurt her.

Ben removed his fingers to Julia’s immediate displeasure.

She lifted her head from Arden’s chest and whimpered, “Ben,” but lowered her head again to Arden’s chest as she felt the base of Ben’s cock pressing against her opening.

At once, she realized that she was the one in control of his penetration. She moved herself back and forth on Arden’s cock and slowly impaled herself on Ben’s engorged crest at her rear. In several gentle passes, Julia had backed herself onto the tip of Ben’s erection. She hissed as he slowly penetrated deeper, falling into a rhythm of his own, complementary to her every stroke over Arden’s cock. He slowly worked his way deeper inside of her. Her ass gripped him tight.

She was right on the threshold between pleasure and pain. She was totally filled by both men. Stretched so tight, she stopped for a moment to catch her breath and absorb the pleasure and wickedness of the act. Both men stilled, waiting for her signal to know she was okay and ready.

With her breathing heavy and her pussy grabbing Arden’s cock so tightly, she knew she was close to orgasm. The stimulation would quickly overcome her. “If I start moving, I’m going to come,” she whimpered.

“That’s the idea,” Arden purred into her ear.

Slowly, Julia began riding Arden again as Ben entered and retreated from behind. Julia’s pleasure was so extreme, all of her muscles clamped down, her body stiffened, and her ability to continue diminished.

“Finish me, please, finish,” she cried, her whole body tensed and frozen in anticipation of her orgasm.

Six Sentence Sunday 12/4/2011

For this week’s submission, I chose another group of six from For the Love of Quinn.  Let me know what you think and make sure you check out the other fabulous authors participating this week.

http://sixsunday.com/

Steve’s mouth was on her breasts again and Quinn arched her back, pushing them up to him, begging him with her body to keep going. He grabbed her dress and slid it the rest of the way off over her hips. He simply stared at her naked body under him for a beat or two, making her a little self-conscious, but she forgot all about that when he smiled at her once again. “Do you have any idea how beautiful you are right now, Quinn?”

She shook her head. “Show me.”

Author Lynn Tyler Shares the Best and Worst Advice She’s Ever Received

Be With Us buy link

Today I would like to welcome fellow Siren author Lynn Tyler to Behind Closed Doors.  Her first novel Be With Us, was released earlier this month and her second is due out in February 2012.  As a newly published author myself, I know the excitement and the feeling of being overwhelmed at the whole process.  Lynn has graciously offered to share with us some tidbits to help us get through it all in one piece.

Before I begin with my guest blog, I would like to thank Tammy for hosting me today. It is always nice when a fellow author helps out a newbie like me.

You would think that, as an honest-to-goodness author, I would be able to rip off a blog post in record time but I agonized over what to write today. Should I write about the process of publication from a new author’s perspective? Should I write about my book? Should I write about myself?

Finally, I decided to go with my gut feeling and write a post about the best and worst advice I have ever received as an author. So here it goes.

1.  Read

And read a lot! Almost every author will tell you that they are, or at least have been, an avid reader at some point in their life. Reading hones your sense of flow, sharpens your ability to see plot errors and gives you an idea of what tense and point of view you like the best.

Graeme Weatherston / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

2.  Take classes

I will admit the last thing I wanted to do when I graduated from university was take more classes. When I decided to try and write professionally, I found myself in the regrettable position of writing myself into corners without a way to get out. I have a number of unfinished books for just that reason. Finally, I sucked it up and took an online course on story structure, which changed my life.  Have no problem with plot flow but need to brush up on your grammar? There are plenty of courses available both online and in any number of college campuses. The last class I took was a website building class, which was how I built my own website.

3.  Write what you love

It’s the one piece of advice that I have heard consistently over and over again but it is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. Love to read erotic romance? Than write it! Trust me, readers can tell if you’re writing for the current market instead of writing something you love.

4.  There is a market for everything

Some of the most successful authors were rejected hundreds of times because “there wasn’t a market for the book”.  Wouldn’t you hate to be the editor that turned down the Harry Potter series or the Twilight series? Keep trying and you’ll find a publishing house that will be thrilled to publish your work.

5.  Research submission guidelines carefully

Yes, there is a market for everything but don’t waste your time submitting your manuscript to a publishing house that doesn’t publish your genre. Online publishing houses and traditional publishing houses who allow unsolicited submissions have strict guidelines. First make sure the publishing house you are considering publishes your genre. Then read the guidelines and FOLLOW them. Do they ask for one inch borders with twelve point font? Do it. Don’t assume that your book will stand on content alone. Many publishers will tell you up front that they will discard any manuscript that doesn’t follow their guidelines without even a second, or sometimes first, glance.

6.  Take rejections with a grain of salt and an open mind

At some point during your career as an author, you will get a rejection. Sometimes it will be a form letter. Other times, editors will give you feedback. One rejection letter I received was probably the best thing that ever happened for my writing career. The editor outlined the high points of my work but also pointed out weaknesses. I was able to re-write the book and ended up with a better product.

I could go on forever about the value of websites and different ways to promote your book but I will cut if off here. I hope that this post has been of some value to someone out there and I encourage all of you to keep reading, writing and dreaming.

Cheers!

~ Lynn Tyler

Blurb

Lindsay, a conservative librarian, has always fantasized about being with two men who love her and each other. Much to her dismay, two hot men walk into the Toronto library where she works, eager to make that fantasy come true. But, wary of the scandal a ménage relationship would bring, Lindsay sends them away.

After being convinced to give them a chance, Lindsay begins to realize how close to reality her fantasy is, until a reminder of her painful past surfaces and her fears take over.

Will Lindsay have the courage to seize what she wants, or will she let her past dictate her future?

Adult Excerpt (intended for audiences over 18)

Her silky cheek brushed against his chest when she tilted her head to look up at him. “Good morning.”

“Morning? Is it already morning?” He played with the ends of her hair, marveling at how soft it was.

“Yep. Nick called me and told me where the extra key is hidden. He thought you might like some company.” She slid a thigh over his and circled her finger playfully around one of his nipples.

Liam swallowed a plea and glanced down his body, not surprised to see the sheet tenting. He always woke up with morning wood, and he usually had to take care of it himself since Nick was almost always up and gone before Liam woke up. Fortunately for him, prospects were promising this morning.

“And guess what?” she said, letting her fingers trail farther down his abdomen.

“If you tell me that you’re naked under the sheets, I’ll be your slave forever.” Liam had to concentrate on his English, making sure his accent wasn’t too thick. It always took him a few minutes for his brain to translate his thoughts into English when he first woke up. Nick was used to the heavy accent, but he wanted to be sure Lindsay understood every word he said.

“Sorry, no. I’m wearing a bra and panties. They are black though.” Ah, there was the bra, he thought as he shifted his hand down her shoulders so that he could feel the band. “But I really wanted to tell you that Nick came home early. He went out to get breakfast.”

Liam tried desperately to wrap his groggy mind around Lindsay’s words. Lindsay was in his bed with Nick in the house? No, wait. Lindsay said that Nick had left to get breakfast. The only thing that he could make sense of at this particular moment was the hard plug of flesh throbbing between his thighs.

He jumped when the curvy little librarian shifted even closer and tangled her fingers in his pubic hair. Every thought of trying to speak fled his mind as he flexed his hips, trying to force her fingers lower.

“Kiss me,” Lindsay said abruptly, arching her neck toward him.

Obeying her request without a second thought, Liam brought his lips to hers and let her take control. Heat swept through his body and erotic possibilities flashed in his mind as he made quick work of her underwear.

A sound from the door drew his eye, where he found Nick grinning wickedly. He made a circling motion with his finger, letting Liam know he wanted Lindsay to be facing the other way. He followed Nick’s command, turning her around so that her ass snuggled against his crotch while Nick crept into the bed.

Liam brought his hands up to mold her breasts and watched Nick stretch out in front of Lindsay to kiss her. “I’m not going to last very long,” Liam warned.

The two of them kept at it, finding all of Lindsay’s sensitive spots. Liam discovered that her neck, especially the spot directly behind her ear, was as responsive as her nipples when kissed and sucked. He found a tiny area on the right side of her clit that was particularly sensitive, so sensitive that it drove her into climax if he stimulated for more than a couple of seconds. Within just a few minutes, Liam felt her pussy flooding with cream and she was begging for more.

Liam scooted back for just a second to put on the condom Nick magically produced. He braced himself for the pleasure of possessing Lindsay’s body, but nothing could prepare him for the sensation of sliding into liquid fire. He rocked into her gently, drawing her leg back over his thigh and opening her up to Nick’s view. And damn, he wished he could see the same thing as Nick.

Nick turned around so that his head lay next to Lindsay’s exposed pussy. Liam felt Nick’s finger trace along the spot where he and Lindsay became one. Nick leaned forward and, resting his head on Lindsay’s upper thigh, buried his face between her legs. Liam groaned, both at the sight and at the feeling of Lindsay’s muscles fluttering around him.

Liam watched his lovers with fascination as his increasing thrusts forced her sex to rock against Nick’s chin, driving all of him wild with need. Nick pulled back slightly, looking up at Liam, heat glittering in his eyes. “Do not come,” he ordered over Lindsay’s whimpers.

At Liam’s nod, Nick went back to suckling Lindsay. Liam could feel her muscles tightening, and when she reached back to grip his hip, he knew he would have some very strange fingernail marks. He’d have to be careful to avoid showering at the station for the next few days if he could help it.

Liam’s balls began to burn with the effort of holding back his orgasm. The only thing that kept him from spilling into the condom was Nick’s command. Nick was going to top the shit out of him if he managed to hold on, and he always loved it when Nick got extra aggressive.

Unpackaged Heroes

photostock / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

I’m only new to the world of publishing. Finding Angel is the first novel I’ve written to be released to the world, I’m sure there will be more to come. But what I’m not new too is the world of romance, in particular erotic romance. I’ve always liked a good naughty story filled with lust and conflict. It’s not how I generally live my life, but I love to read about lives that are…hence, my love for reading and now writing erotica.

It was only recently, after having a discussion with a friend (also an avid reader of erotic romance), that I started to wonder whether I was setting myself up to fail in my goal of finding my own ‘happy-ever-after’ scenario in life. Yes I’m currently single, but kissing frogs and hoping they will turn into a prince isn’t high on my list of things to do. I don’t have the patience for it. So I ask myself… “Do the hero’s I read and write about influence my expectations of what I want in a partner?” My initial response was hell yes but then I had to revise that notion. If my ultimate goal or the holy grail of finding love as I refer to it, means I want a hero from a romance novel then am I bound to fail? After careful consideration I decided probably not.

The hero’s we love from the books we read may come in perfect packaging. They are generally physically tall, bodies like Greek gods, and have huge penis’s that could tear a horse. I agree, I may not find the packaging but I could still find the hero. I don’t think it’s the physical aspects that most readers fall in love with. It’s the attitude of the hero, what’s inside the packaging. They are respectful to the woman or man they fall for, even if they are dominant in nature. They protect the one they love with a passion. Once they find love there is no-one else for them. They are often patient, they’ll fight tooth and nail to get the person of their desire, and they will wait patiently while the heroine of the novel stops resisting the fact she is in love with them. Yes, the men in the books we read may have faults but ultimately, they are made better people because of the love they finally achieve.

Pixomar / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

I have some friends that have their unpackaged hero’s. Probably some of you reading this blog have found yours as well. Once I learn to stop taking home stray frogs, I’m sure I’ll find mine. Until then, I’ll continue to write about them. To find an unpackaged hero is now my new holy grail.

Before I go I just want to say thanks to Tammy for hosting me, I hope you all found my musings interesting and that you take the time to pick up a copy of my book Finding Angel. Oh, and in case you’re wondering Angel’s heroes are nicely packaged. J

Get Finding Angel here

Angel Wylde is a woman with a complicated existence, a damaging past, and a desire to be normal. Unfortunately, what’s normal to Angel is unconventional to the rest of us. A crime boss will kill to get an incriminating ledger from her. Detective Steve Jax also wants the ledger from Angel, but the infuriating woman has disappeared.

Christian and Daniel Shore, Steve’s two best friends, don’t know about the ledger. They just want Angel. A chance meeting has them taking her home and deciding she is the only woman for them—yes, both of them. Obviously, Angel isn’t the only one with unconventional desires. So who does Angel trust? Two kinky Doms she just met, a cop she doesn’t know anything about, or a nasty crime boss? Trusting all of them may save her life, and falling in love with two Dominant brothers is the icing on the cake.

Adult Excerpt from Finding Angel (contains obscene language)

Angel felt like she wanted to scream. She needed more than gentle touching. For some reason she was hornier than usual. She had been since she’d woken. As much as she loved being turned on with gentle strokes and caresses, tonight it just added to the fire that had simmered inside her all day. She wanted to be taken, and she wanted it now. Her cunt hadn’t lost the heat of their morning fuck session so she didn’t need to be teased to arousal. She was already there.

Christian joined them on the bed, and Angel felt his hand ease under the lace of her pants. His fingers teased open her lips and slowly made their way to her clit. God, she wanted him to rip her pants from her while Daniel tore away her bra, she wanted them to take her with force, and she wanted to be filled with both of them and filled now.

“Grrr,” Angel growled, looking over at Christian as she tried to pull Daniel closer to her hard nipple, wanting to feel the bite of his teeth against it.

“Fuck it, Christian rip my pants off, tear them off, and fuck me now,” she demanded.

Obviously it didn’t have the effect she was after as both men eased back, removing the touch from her body altogether. She kicked her legs against the mattress and screamed in frustration.

“Are you throwing a tantrum?” Christian laughed down at her as he licked the wetness from his fingers.

“Yes.” Angel sat up and pulled off her bra and then her pants. “I want to be fucked hard, now, or I’m going to explode.”

Angel pushed Daniel backward and attempted to straddle him, only to feel her body being lifted up and off the bed by Christian. Angel could feel the tip of Christian’s erection brush against her bottom as he held her, back firmly against his hard body, feet dangling in the air.

“Ask nicely,” Christian spoke into her ear before skimming his lips over the softness of her neck.

“Bite me,” Angel snapped back at him, trying to wriggle out of the tight hold he had on her. She felt his lips part slightly and stilled in his arms as his teeth sank into her neck, biting hard and sucking her flesh in between them. The pain was exhilarating as she screamed and moaned in delight.

“Yes,” she whimpered as her hand rose up to push his face harder against her neck. As soon as she spoke, Christian released her flesh from between his teeth and laughed as she growled at him once again.

“Wylde by name, wild by nature. Or so it seems tonight anyway,” he joked, staring over at Daniel who was still on the bed wearing nothing but a wry smile.

“So you want this?” Daniel asked Angel as he eased himself back onto one elbow, stretching out on the bed, his hard cock reaching up into the air as he massaged it with his hand. “But you don’t want to ask for it nicely,” he stated in amusement.

“What’s got you so horny tonight, my love?” Christian asked, easing her feet onto the floor but still holding her firmly.

“I need you both inside me. I’m so horny I could die at any minute. I’ve been horny all day, and I want you to fuck me now!” Angel stamped her foot and screamed the last part of her statement, only to hear both men laugh as she did.

“Let me get this straight.” The smirk on Daniel’s face was more annoying than the fact he had begun to stroke his cock, or at least Angel thought so until she saw a glisten of pre-cum seep from the end of it. “After all the emotional events of the day, you are refusing a night of gentle lovemaking and demanding we just fuck you?”

“Bingo,” Angel stated as she slammed her heel down onto the top of Christian’s foot and slipped from his arms, diving toward Daniel lounging on the bed.

“Fuck that hurt,” Christian yelled as he reached for Angel, taking hold of her by the arm and stopping her escape.

Her knees were already on the bed by the time he reclaimed her, and Christian allowed her to fall forward as he quickly administer three hard smacks onto her bare bottom. Angel screamed, her hand going immediately to the red heated spot on her butt cheek.

That was definitely not a spanking for play. That was more like you’ve been a bad girl punishment kind of smack.

Christian released Angel as she rolled over onto her back, her hand still pressed against the mark on her butt.

“Ouch,” she pouted, looking up at Christian.

“Ouch,” Christian replied, pointing to his foot.

“So you need to be fucked, Angel.” Daniel dragged her to the centre of the bed. “Hard and fast, no foreplay, no gentle teasing?” Angel nodded her head, desire flaming behind her emerald eyes.

“On one condition, no holes barred.” Christian looked down at her as she lay naked in the centre of the bed. “Do you understand me, sweetie? We take you any way we want.”

Six Sentence Sunday 11/27/2011

Piyaphon/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

This six is from my new short story A Christmas Miracle for Jake.  The entire thing will be posted over the three days of the Stuff Your Stockings Christmas Blog Hop (December 16-18th).  In For the Love of Quinn, the reader gets a brief overview of an accident that Jacob had ten years before.  The short story covers the time when Jacob was in his coma.  Two secondary characters make their first appearance to help nudge Jacob, Quinn and the rest of the people in their lives down certain paths.  This group of six is a scene where Jacob and Quinn are together for the very first time on their dream island.

Her breasts were straining against the bodice of her sundress. Jacob flicked his tongue into the deep cleft between him eliciting a moan from Quinn.  He held her gaze as he pushed the thin straps of the dress off of her shoulders.  He used his teeth to tug at the strings keeping her heaving tits in place.  She giggled as her dress slowly opened up to him.  The sound tickled his stomach and he wanted to hear her giggle, laugh and so much more.

Stay tuned for the full story!

Beck and Call buy link

Beck and Call is a sizzling erotic contemporary novella.  Here’s an excerpt:

All Jenny wanted was to run her resort hotel without the constant interference from her boss. All Beck wanted, was her.

Jenny Somers is the General Manager at a resort hotel in the beautiful Caribbean. She loves her job, but she hates her boss. Constantly cutting corners to meet budget constraints she finds herself doing handyman work just to keep the hotel running.

Beck is a drifter who comes to Jenny’s rescue during a plumbing emergency at the hotel. He is arrogant, cocky and absolutely everything that Jenny despises in a man of his type.

Together Jenny and Beck find out just how real the term “opposites attract” is, and along the way find something they weren’t quite expecting along the way.

ADULT Excerpt

He was watching her. She could tell he liked it. She noticed a small bead of sweat on his forehead that she would lick off if he was close enough. He was holding her thighs apart and hadn’t deviated from his rhythm for several minutes when she felt him do just that. His pace slowed and he released one of her thighs from his strong hold. She was disappointed. What he was doing had felt so good. She didn’t want him to stop. Not for a second. He slid his hand up towards hers in what she thought was going to be a playful massage of her breast, but instead he surprised her when he pulled her hand away.

“Beck? What are you doing?”

She asked the question, but if she had waited the answer would have been clear. He took her hand down to where their bodies were connected and placed it on her saturated clit.

“Rub yourself, Jennifer. Touch yourself. Let me watch you.”

His voice. Again, his voice sounded deep and hypnotizing. Was there anything he could ask of her she would not do? Without hesitation she spread her lips further apart with her index and ring finger. Her eyes were locked on his as she flicked her middle finger across her swollen clit.

She gasped. The sensation was more than she’d expected. Something flashed in his eyes and his jaw clenched. She loved knowing she was driving him crazy. Wanting to make him just as hot as he did her, she continued to play with herself as he watched. He was still buried deep inside her and the feel of being so completely filled while touching and teasing her sensitized nub was like nothing she’d ever experienced before.

“Taste yourself, Jennifer.”

Her eyes widened at his demand. Taste myself? She had never done anything like that before. How could she… As quickly as she’d asked the question she realized the choice was no longer hers. Beck pulled her hand away and raised it to her mouth.

“Suck your fingers, sugar. Lick all your juices off for me while I watch.”

Oh my God! She couldn’t possibly. Hesitation washed over her when her scent tickled her nose and her taste hit her tongue. She liked it? She wanted to question how it was possible, but instead found her lips closing over her fingertips. Unconscious moans escaped from her as she did exactly as Beck told her to, licking and sucking on her fingers.

How Stupid Can I Get?

Roz Lee

Welcome to Behind Closed Doors!  Today, author Roz Lee shares with us her experience with something many of us have gone through:  accidentally wiping out something we’ve spent hours working on.

About the author –

Roz Lee has been married to her best friend, and high school sweetheart, for over three decades. These days she splits her time between their home in rural New Jersey, and Southern California, where her husband works. Even though she’s lived on both coasts, her heart lies in between, in Texas. A Texan by birth, she can trace her family back to the Republic of Texas. With roots that deep, she says, “You can’t ever really leave.”

Roz and her husband have two grown daughters they couldn’t be more proud of, and are currently raising a ten-year-old Labrador Retriever, Betty Boop, who isn’t aware of her canine heritage.

When Roz isn’t writing, she’s reading, or traipsing around the country on one adventure or another. No trip is too small, no tourist trap too cheesy, and no road unworthy of traveling.

Sometimes I just have to wonder, how stupid can I get? Today is one of those days. I’m closing in on my two favorite words – The End – with my current work in progress. This morning, I even skipped my usual early hour trip to the gym in order to put in some serious time working toward that light beckoning me home. All was going well. I’d managed to write ten pages, mostly dialogue. The scene was emotional, and a pivotal moment between my hero and heroine. I broke away for a few minutes to do some mundane things – like laundry – and came back to it. Still feeling satisfied with where I was, and where the story was going, I decided it was time to take a serious break, perhaps to come back later in the day.

So…I moved my cursor to the little red box in the top right corner, and clicked on it. Bless Word’s heart for popping up a little box asking me if I wanted to save the changes I’d made. At that moment, I had a brainstorm. One little thing I wanted to change before I forgot it. I moved the cursor away from the ‘yes’ selection. My mind had already wandered to the minute change I wanted to make. I should have remained focused on the task at hand. Instead of moving the cursor all the way over to the ‘cancel’ button which meant, no, I’ve changed my mind about doing this, my finger reflexively hit the enter key – with the cursor directly over ‘no’, which we all know means  –  no, I don’t want to save the changes I’ve made to the document.

A day’s work disappeared in the blink of an eye. No way to retrieve it. All gone. Bye, bye.

Jumping off a bridge began to look pretty good, but for a solid five minutes, I stared at the screen in disbelief. I whimpered like a kicked puppy. All that time – lost. Worse – all that wonderful, emotional, pivotal dialogue – gone.

Hours , and a Grande Hot Chocolate with all the calories and fat the Barista could possibly cram into it, later – it still hurts. I’ll write the scene again, and perhaps it will be better the second time around, but I can’t help but feel a kinship with artists who work in transient mediums. I’ve always wondered why anyone would bother to build a magnificent sand or ice sculpture, knowing that it would only be there for a short period of time before nature claimed the medium back. Or what about those artists who painstakingly ‘paint’ in chalk or colored sand, only to see it washed or swept away soon after? As a writer, I like to think my work is more permanent, but today I was reminded that it is only one human error, or one computer glitch away from being as transient as skywriting.

I’ve learned a valuable lesson – one about saving my work more often. To be honest with you, I thought the program was set to auto-save every so often. Maybe this is something I made up in my own mind, but if the program will do that, I’m darned sure going to see that it does it from now on. There is much I don’t know about computers, and truth be told, I do good to operate my cell phone. Maybe that’s stubbornness on my part. I’ve never taken the time to learn all the wonderful little things that my electronic gadgets can do for me. Perhaps it’s time I did.

Here’s the blurb –

Marriage hasn’t tamed Candace Callahan’s sexual curiosity, something her husband Ryan is grateful for, but when she asks him to tie her up for her anniversary present, he knows he’s going to need the help of their friends, Richard Wolfe and his wife, Fallon.

Dr. Fallon Enright is the resident sex therapist aboard the Lothario – the cruise ship co-owned by her husband and Ryan Callahan. When Ryan asks to participate in one of their couple’s rope bondage classes, Richard isn’t sure it’s a good idea, but Fallon assures him all will be well.

What begins as innocent curiosity, blossoms into a polyamorous relationship none of them could have expected, but they are powerless to ignore. When the tabloids expose their new lifestyle, the foursome must choose between the love they feel for each other, or accepting society’s moral constraints.

And an Excerpt –

Ryan froze with his lips against the pulse in Candace’s neck. His erection surged with new vigor against her stomach. Why couldn’t his wife ask for something easy for their anniversary? Something like diamonds, a villa in France, hell, even an expedition to the North Pole. The image in his brain coalesced, and he knew he would give her whatever she wanted.

“You want me to tie you up?” he asked as soon as he found his voice.

“Don’t even try to tell me it doesn’t excite you.” Candace wiggled her soft mound against his cock. “I felt that.”

He had no intention of denying his interest. Only a fool would, and Ryan Callahan was no fool. He continued his exploration of his wife’s creamy soft skin, all the while forming and reforming the new image in his head. His lips left her neck, slipped to her shoulder where he tasted every inch of skin, before angling lower toward the perfect swell of her breasts. His hands held hers pinned flat on either side of her head. He’d tied her hands once, when he’d spirited her away from the Lothario and onto the Vixen, but that had been role-playing more than anything else. He was pretty sure she had something more in mind. He hoped to God she did.

Her request shouldn’t have been a surprise. She’d spent a lot of time lately talking to his best friend’s wife. Rope bondage was Fallon’s new research topic, and a passion shared with her husband Richard. Ryan inched his way lower, and teased one nipple to a marble hard peak with his tongue, before taking it in his mouth. Candace drew in a sharp breath and arched her back, encouraging him to suck harder. He obliged his wife.

His wife. The moniker still sent a thrill through his body every time he thought, or said the word. Candace Callahan. His wife. God, what a wondrous thing that was. For nearly a year, she’d been his constant companion, his lover, his…everything. Before he met Candace, he’d been lost and alone, searching for something he couldn’t name. Now it had a name. Love.

“Well?” Candace prodded on a gasp as Ryan switched breasts, sucking the poor, neglected one in his mouth without preamble.

Surely, she knew the answer. He couldn’t deny her anything. Still, he made her wait for his reply. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t given it any thought himself. There wasn’t much he hadn’t imagined doing with Candace.

He released her hands and slid lower until he lay pillowed between her thighs. He brushed his thumbs over the neatly trimmed auburn triangle that drew him like a compass needle to magnetic north. The scent of her arousal filled his nostrils and fueled a primal need. He swept his tongue through her juices. She ground her swollen flesh against his face, and he knew she’d forgotten everything but this. He dedicated himself to keeping the status quo for the foreseeable future.

Interview with Kiss Me Slowly characters Jon and Grace

Author Amber Lea Easton

Author Amber Lea Easton sits down with her characters in Kiss Me Slowly to find out what brought them together and how they had to work through some old baggage in order to work together.  Let’s check in with them now…

Setting:  Sidewalk cafe in South Beach, Miami, Florida.  Humidity is heavy in the air. Mojitos are flowing faster than the bartender can make them. Snowbirds are descending on Florida for the holiday season and flocking on the beach at our backs.  The scent of grilled hamburgers mixes with the smell of suntan lotion and sea air.

Me:  Today I’m talking to Jonathan Alexander III and Grace Dupont, hero and heroine of Kiss Me Slowly.

Jonathan:  Well, I’m not sure I’m anyone’s hero.

Me:  Don’t be so hard on yourself, Jon.  You did some pretty heroic things in Kiss Me Slowly.

Jonathan:  A week on the run makes a man who is essentially non-heroic do heroic things. That doesn’t necessarily make him a hero.

Grace:  Ignore him.  He’s using his “aw, shucks, ma’am charm” on you.  He saved my life more than once.  He’s a hero.

Jonathan:  It was you that saved me, Grace.

Me:  Well, let’s just say you’re both heroes and leave it at that.  My call.

(Jon and Grace shift uncomfortably in their chairs.)

Me: I’m glad you two could make it.  I know you’re not allowed to tell me much about where you’ve been or how long you’re staying in town, but it’s good of you take a few minutes to meet with me.

Grace:  No problem. It’s nice being back on South Beach without anyone trying to kill us.

Jonathan:  It’s nice being anywhere without someone trying to kill us.  Refreshing.

Me:  Jon, at what point did you realize that you needed to go to Grace for help?  It must have been hard facing an ex-girlfriend after so many years…especially considering the break-up wasn’t exactly friendly.

Jonathan:  Well…I knew I was being followed by Panama Hat Man, the company accountants had already discovered the embezzlement set-up leading to my office, and I didn’t trust anyone around me.  I knew Grace and her brother Jerry were the best forensics in Miami–

Grace:  The entire East Coast, actually…maybe the best in the country.

Jonathan:  Egos…I swear the Duponts have the biggest egos…

Grace:  Well, at least we’re honest about it instead of playing the “aw, shucks, ma’am” routine.

Jonathan:  You want to do this right now?  Really?  Argue about egos?  And are you really calling the Duponts “honest”?  (Smiling, he winks at her before taking a long drink of his mojito.)  Anyway, like I was saying…I didn’t trust anyone around me anymore.  My only choice…my only hope…was going to Grace and hoping she could use her giant ego and brilliance to save my ass.

Grace:  I like how you did that there…her giant ego and brilliance…an insult and a compliment all in one.  Sweet, baby.  Classy.  (She orders another mojito from the waitress.)

Me:  Grace, were you ever tempted to let him take the fall?  I know your past must have been hard to overcome at first.  I mean, here’s the man who broke your heart, who walked away without ever looking back, who suddenly shows up needing your genius to save him.  Did it ever cross your mind to simply tell him no?

Kiss Me Slowly Book Trailor

Grace:  (long silence as she pokes the ice in her empty glass with a straw)  I may have toyed with the idea at first, but once the heart loves someone, despite the circumstances of the ending, it never really stops loving that person.  I had to do whatever I could do to help.  We didn’t have time for hesitation.

Me:  No, you didn’t have much time at all, did you?

(Jonathan and Grace look at each other, smiles hinting at secrets and heartache.)

Grace:  No, we couldn’t hesitate.

Jonathan:  Time was up.  All we could do was…well, all we could do was what we did.  Run.  Stall.  Try to stay one step ahead.

Grace:  Try to stay alive.

An excerpt of Kiss Me Slowly

“You have blood on your dress.” He fingered the strap in question that had slipped off her shoulder. “You should probably take it off.”

“Careful. We can’t go there.” Sand clung to her neck and stuck to the tangles in her hair. The light from the bedside lamp shadowed her face.

“I meant change out of it, not…well, maybe I meant take it off. But then we’d be crossing lines that you don’t want to cross.” He let his fingers trail down her arm. “That would be wrong. Terribly wrong.”

“You are nothing but trouble.”

“You always liked trouble.” He rested his right palm against the bed, supporting his weight on his healthy arm.

“Listen carefully to me.” She pressed her finger against his lips. “I’m high on adrenaline, we’re alone, no witnesses, no regrets. One kiss won’t hurt anyone.”

“No witnesses, no regrets…” Heat flooded his veins. “Adrenaline…”

“If I don’t do this now, I’ll hate myself in the morning.”

“You mean you’ll regret it when they lock me up in the morning and throw away the key because you didn’t kiss me one last time?”

“Exactly.” She straddled his lap.

“You weren’t supposed to agree.” He smiled despite the circumstances.

“Shut up, sailor boy. Kiss me.”

She kissed him as if savoring the taste. Her hair fell forward, locking them in a caramel-colored veil of intimacy. Eyes open, they stared at each other as their lips moved against each other’s.

His hands slid up her long thighs, over her panties and pressed against the smoothness of her back. Every stroke of her lips against his awakened pure need in his veins. He no longer cared about what was right or wrong. All he wanted was her mouth on his, his hands on her body and her skin against his.

With a quick yank, she pulled her dress over her head. Breasts bared, she pressed him down on the bed and laughed against his mouth. “This is crossing all kinds of boundaries and breaking every rule I can think of.”

“Just like the old days.” He smiled against her lips. His hands moved over her bared breasts. The pain in his shoulder failed to slow him down. He didn’t know who groaned or if they both did, but the sensation of her flesh filling his palms trumped common sense.

Her bare foot slid over his leg, hands curled into his hair, and body flattened against his. All the anger, the terror and confusion poured from him as he deepened the kiss with an urgency that bordered on desperation. The silky warmth of her mouth erased his pain. Kissing her felt like coming home from an exhausting, lonely journey.

“A kiss…that’s all I wanted,” she muttered against his chin. A shiver quaked through her body when she sighed.

“I want more.”

“Impossible. We can’t.”

“We can do whatever the hell we want, Grace.” Despite the burning pain in his left shoulder, he maneuvered so that his body covered hers. He wanted more than a kiss. He wanted more heat.

Welcome Author Debbie Bailey to Behind Closed Doors

Good day all!!

Since this is the first guest blog, I thought that I would start out by welcoming everyone who reads this and to give a great big thanks to Tammy Maggy for the invitation.  I hope that you’ll find there are no judgments, no recriminations and certainly no bigotry, in anything I write. This is just a little space to say what’s on my mind.  Not ranting and raving (it gives me a headache) but hopefully just common sense stuff so be kind, be patient and have (I hope you have) a good laugh with it.

I was so proud and excited as I watched my first book climb the BookStrand best sellers list. Sienna’s Submission had been in my head for quite some time but I was a little nervous about putting in out there.  Getting in onto the computer wasn’t half as hard as actually sending it in to a publisher.  The fear of rejection was what had stopped me from doing it.  It wasn’t until a really good friend of mine read it and told me either I sent it in, or he would so after contemplating whether to just kick his ass or send the manuscript in I thought, what the hell.  And I will forever be in his debt for giving me that extra boot in the ass.

Living in Canada I wanted to write from a uniquely Canadian perspective.  Although we have so much in common with our neighbours to the south of us as well as England andAustralia, Canada is unique in both it landscapes and its people.  I love writing about small towns and how the people react to ‘out of the norm’ situations.  Having lived both in small towns and large cities, one would think that the larger the city, the more diversified the culture, the more tolerance you’s see.  But I have found just the opposite. Maybe it was how I was raised or the people I grew up with but generally it was a live and let live culture. My parents (both gone now) were probable the two most influential people in my life.   I was raised by parents who were very outspoken and involved in our community. Me, I’m got the outspoken gene, my middle brother got the community involvement gene and unfortunately, my older brother got the ‘you do really stupid things to get your ass sent to jail’ gene.

Yup, being the youngest of the three was pretty sweet.  I could watch my two older brother’s get in shit for things; then figure out a way to do the same thing and not get caught…lol!!!  Being the only girl, however, was not so sweet.  I had three very overprotective males (my dad and two brothers) to deal with; plus all my brothers’ friends who watched my every move.  So I learned as a teenager how to outsmart most males and as I got older I just got better at it.  My dad was a firefighter, and in our small town, all the firefighters and cops hung out together so getting into trouble was really difficult for me to do.  Not that I didn’t try, but somehow there was always someone who called my dad when I was about to do something fun and suddenly my dad was there or my brothers and his friends were there just trying the suck the fun out of everything.  But I do have to admit to having a special place in my heart for all firefighters and law enforcement officers.  There’s just something about the type of man that wears that uniform.

Our parents raised us to judge people by their actions and to always give our trust until it was broken.  It doesn’t work for everyone but so far it’s worked pretty well for me.
So I give my trust to my readers.  Enjoy life and next time you’re on a bus or train or even just sitting in a park, if you can, turn to the person beside you and say hi and ask them how their day’s going.  One way to stop violence, bigotry and just all round hatred is to get to know the person beside you.  Introduce yourself to the people in your neck of the woods.  Someone might just surprise you and become a good friend!!

Those of you that have read Sienna’s Submission; I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  My next book in the Men of Kinsey series comes out in February, 2012.  It’s Ryder, Sam and Dan’s story.  I’ve had a lot of people ask me if I was going to write about them.  For some reason Ryder grabbed the hearts and a few other place…lol, of people.
Sienna’s Submission is available at www. Bookstrand/siennas-submission.com if you want to take a peek into the town of Kinsey.
