Nine Ten, Love Comes Crashing In #KIBJ #paranormal #fantasy Free Read

Happy Sunday and welcome to Behind Closed Doors! Today I have the next installment from Karma In Blue Jeans for you to read. This week you get to meet a few more of Karma’s charges. Brighton Alderidge is the former BFF of Evangeline’s and the victim of her climb to the top of the publishing world. How will she handle the news of Evangeline’s fall from “grace”? Charlotte and Joe have lived the last few years of their lives numb with grief. The loss of their spouses has them spinning out of control…until Fate and Karma step in.

If this is the first time you’ve visited, you’ll want to catch up with the story from the beginning. Click on the links to take you to each post and then come back to continue the story. I hope you enjoy the book so far. It’s become one of my favorite projects to write. I’m sure you’ll understand why…

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Karma memeBrighton stared at the television, stunned by the news. Sure they had their differences and even all out wars but she’d never wish upon anyone what Evangeline Cross was facing now. Did she deserve to fall from the top? Hell yes, but to suffer a debilitating stroke on top of it was more than anyone should have to bear.

She snatched her cell from the coffee table in front of her and hit the button that connected directly to her publisher at Bliss.

“Jessica Raine.”

“Hey doll. It’s Brighton Alderidge. Got a minute?”

“For you? Of course. What’s wrong? You don’t sound like yourself.”

“Have you seen the news about Evie?”

The woman on the other end of the conversation snorted. “Besides putting out all the fires she started around here, I haven’t heard anything more. Why? What’s she done now?”

“She’s in the hospital. Dallas held a press conference just now. Apparently she’s had a stroke.”

“Holy shit. Well, Karma’s a bitch—“

“Jess!”

“You of all people should be dancing in the streets to see her finally get what’s coming to her. She put you through the ringer and her nut job fans were more than happy to go after you too.”

Brighton cringed as the memory of the worst time in her life came back to her. She’d been accused of plagiarism by an obscure, unknown person on Wattpad. Come to find out, the accuser was a uber fan who wanted to take her down so Evangeline’s book could then be at number one. Two years of legal battles and thousands of dollars in legal fees later, she’d been cleared. Her love of writing didn’t survive. Writer’s block had paralyzed her through the entire process. It had only been within the last six months she’d been able to jump back in with a tell all memoir that shot straight to the top of the nonfiction best sellers lists. A month ago she’d been approached by the local talk show to see if she’d like to be a regular on their panel. Life had turned out great for her—much to Evangeline’s chagrin.

Even after all this time, Evangeline continued to claim ignorance of the whole mess, but screen shots from her private Evie’s Angels Facebook group told a different story. Brighton hadn’t wanted to believe her once best friend would have encouraged the horrible attack, but there it was in black and white. While the betrayal had crushed her, it had also opened her eyes to the backstabbing, mean girl mentality swirling around the publishing world.

Gone was the wide-eyed, naïve Midwestern girl. In her place stood a stronger, more determined street smart woman ready to put her past behind her and move on. She’d vowed to never forgive Evangeline for orchestrating the mob that had ripped her apart and called her a thief.

And yet, her heart ached for the friend she used to be.

No one deserves to be struck down in her prime even if she is the biggest bitch of the century! “I know. I should be dancing over this but I feel awful for her and her family.”

“I understand what you’re saying, but save it. She could care less about your sympathy. She’d think you had ulterior motives by offering her any help.”

She sighed. “I know you’re right but I’m still going to stop in and check in on Dallas and Marissa.”

“My advice? Don’t do anything in public. She’ll only turn it against you.”

“Thanks Jess. I promise I’ll be careful.” She made her way to the kitchen and then dropped her cell phone into her purse and retrieved her keys. She scribbled a quick note for her husband and then headed out to her car. We had been so close. I miss that Evie. Maybe this is my chance to get her back.

Young man and woman drinking coffee outdoor and having a chat

A crash echoed throughout the cafeteria followed by the sound of breaking glass and china. All eyes turned toward Charlotte as a man with the most amazing blue eyes helped her from the floor.

“Oh my god! Are you all right? I wasn’t watching where I was going.”

Her head swam and she found it hard to catch her breath after her collision with the wall of muscle standing over her. “I…I…I think I’m okay but my lunch has seen better days.” She looked down at her smock and groaned. I can’t believe this is happening to me today of all days.

He crouched next to her and proceeded to help her pick up the mess of food and broken dishes. “Please. Allow me to buy you another meal and pick up the dry cleaning tab for your clothing.”

She shook her head and smiled. “That’s not necessary. You weren’t the only one with their head in the clouds. I’ve been preoccupied today and this is just as much my fault as it is yours.”

“Nonsense. I insist.” He glanced at her name tag and smiled. “Charlie? Are you the one the kids chant for every morning?”

She couldn’t pull her eyes from his. Something about him seemed so familiar to her. She nodded. “That’s me. They love their story time. I’m sorry, but do we know each other? You look so familiar. I can’t place it, but…”

He helped her removed the soiled smock and accompanied her back to the food line. “Don’t think so. I would remember someone as beautiful as you.”

She laughed. “I bet you say that to all the girls you crash into.”

He stopped and raised his right hand with three fingers up. “Nope. Scout’s Honor. You’re the very first.”

Her spine tingled.

Scout’s Honor. Darrin had said that to her all the time.

He smiled. Not just any smile but a slow Cheshire cat grin she thought she’d never see again.

“Wha…what did you say your name was?”

He leaned close and took her hands in his. “It’s Joe. Are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

She squeezed his fingers and asked again. “Have we met before?”

He nodded. “In each and every lifetime. Our names are different but our hearts always find each other.”

She swallowed back the lump that had formed in her throat. “It can’t be. Today is…”

“The anniversary of the day we had to part.”

“Darrin?” Her voice cracked and she berated herself for sounding like a lost little girl.

“I don’t understand it either, but seems we’ve been given a second chance here and now. I didn’t realize what was going on until I heard your voice singing to the kids. All of it came back to me. What do you say we grab our food and get reacquainted?”

Too stunned to do anything but take his arm, she walked back through the line and let him fill her tray with all of her favorites.

* * * *

kissIt took all he had to keep calm and not throw his arms around her and never let go. Three years ago his wife of twenty years had lost her battle with breast cancer and he’d lost his will to live. Now here in front of him she appeared to be living again in the body of another, with the voice of an angel—an angel who’d given up on life and wished to be reunited with the love of her life.

Just as he’d done the night before.

Today was the anniversary of his wife, Carrie’s death. Now here she was sitting across from him as if the last three years had never happened. Her laughter tickled his ears and set goosebumps up and down his spine. It wasn’t the fact she was his Carrie that gave him the sense of déjà vu. He remembered his life as her husband, Darrin. Every single moment of it flooded back to him.

She reached across the table and placed her hand over his. “Now you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“Carrie?”

She nodded. “I think so. I can see a wedding on the beach.”

“Cabo.”

“Darrin and I were married on Maui, but the memory I’m having now is of me walking across the sand to you.”

“The memories are swirling around each other in your head and combining into one?” Please let her say yes and not think I’m out of my mind.

She exhaled. “Thank God! I thought I’d smacked my head on the floor when you knocked me to the floor.” She smiled and the color in her cheeks turned a rosy pink that made the freckles all the more adorable.

“I’ve been drawn to you for the last couple days and I didn’t know why. Something compelled me to have lunch here today instead of running up the street to the diner.”

“O’Malley’s?”

He nodded. “Yeah. It’s my favorite spot here in the city. They have the best mac and cheese around. My wife used to try to duplicate it and she came damn close.”

“Same here! I’m thinking they use a special blend of cheeses but I have yet to match it.”

He turned his hand over and laced his fingers with hers. “Charlie, I think we’re supposed to find each other here, today.”

Tears filled her eyes and her grip around his fingers tightened. “I’ve all but given up and asked to be reunited with my Darrin again. I don’t want to go on without him.”

“You don’t have to. We can have our second chance. All we have to do is believe.”

“Do you? I’m afraid to let my heart feel again.”

“If you would’ve asked me last week, my answer would have been a resounding hell no. I can’t believe in anything that could take away my heart and soul. But now, sitting here with you I want to believe. I need to believe this is the answer to our prayers.”

“Before you get excited, I should tell you I’ve been diagnosed with stage four.”

His stomach tightened and the room spun. No. No. NO!

“I refused treatment but now…”

“You’ll give it a try? I mean, I’ll be there with you every step of the way. I won’t let you go through this alone.”

“This is all so overwhelming but somehow it feels right. Promise me this isn’t a dream. You’re really here?”

“Yeah. I’m really here. Time for my confession.”

She wiped the tears from her cheeks and tilted her head to the side. She winked and then smiled.

Carrie’s smile.

“I was going to go home tonight, close up the garage and let the car run. Like you, I wished to be with my one true love and thought the one way was to leave this world.”

She shook her head and then got up to join him on his side of the table. She wrapped her arms around his neck and then sobbed. “Then it’s a damn good thing we’re both klutzes.”

He chuckled and pulled her close. He rested his cheek on the top of her head and rocked her until her tears slowed. “We’re two peas in a pod. Someone’s been looking out for us, that’s for sure.” My prayers have been answered. Please don’t take her away from me again.

  * * * *

Justice smiled. “Now there’s a couple I wouldn’t have seen together in a million years. He’s really robbing the cradle with Charlie.”

Karma put her head on his shoulder and kept her eyes on her new project. “Both are old souls. He may be two decades older that she is in this life, in their hearts they’re the perfect match. His wife died exactly one year before her husband. The stars and worlds were aligned perfectly the moment they collided today so they could reunite.”

“Their heads must be spinning with all the déjà vu going around.” He draped his arm over the back of her chair and twirled her hair between his fingertips. Even in human form her tresses reminding him of the silk spun by the nimble hands of the Faery folk. His cock stirred against his scrub pants with the thought of having her in his bed tonight and every night for as long as The Three allowed her to be with him. Sure she still had to perform her duties, but at least he could play a greater role in her life other than to satisfy her carnal urges.

Not that he was complaining. He’d be an idiot to turn down any moment with her, but he’d be lying to himself if he said he didn’t long for more from the woman he’d loved for centuries. If only she felt the same.

As a demigod, he could never ascend to her status of immortality. Eventually he would leave this realm and have to wait for his next life cycle. Karma would live forever unless she did as Lucius and gave up her status as a goddess.

Something he’d never allow her to do.

Ever.

“What’s wrong, love? I thought seeing the two of them reunited would make you happy. Instead it’s had the opposite effect.”

He kissed her forehead and then stood up. “Nothing. It’s been a long day with Evangeline and your surprise in the on call room. How about we head over to my—our house and get you settled in?”

She pouted and took the hand he offered. “I don’t think I like not being able to read your thoughts in an instant.”

“Get used to it. You’re the one who wanted the human experience.”

“Don’t remind me.” She turned for one last look at Charlie and Joe and smiled.

“Is she really going to beat stage four?”

“It’s in their hands now, but yes. She will and the two of them will have their happily ever after. They’ve taken the first leap of faith. The rest will be a piece of cake.”

She continued to rattle on about a few of the other cases she had to handle over the never few weeks, but he didn’t hear a word. Instead his mind wandered back to Evangeline strapped to the hospital bed. She’s one of the worst cases I’ve ever had to deal with and I’m not sure if she’s redeemable. Maybe it would be better just to cut her loose and let her completely self-destruct.

Five Six, Karma Gets Her Wish #KIBJ #paranormal Free Read

Welcome back, peeps!

Today I’m sharing the next chapter from Karma In Blue Jeans (Immortal Siblings). This one gives you another glimpse into the world of the Eternal Siblings as well as the Evangeline’s punishment. Karma doesn’t fool around with this one and as it turns out, neither do The Three.

If you haven’t read the first two chapters, you’ll want to catch up before you move on to this one.

Chapter 3

The trio entered the mountain cabin Yeshua called his home away from home. The phrase had always struck Karma as funny. As the Creator of All, home is wherever and whenever He wanted it to be. In a blink of an eye He could change His surroundings and yet he preferred the rustic cabin in the mountains.

Go figure.

An entire wall of the main room had been converted into a media center, covered with flat screen monitors. At any given moment, the faces of their human charges could be brought to view. Lucius called the space The War Room. She’d thought the name fit since every time The Three convened in there, Lucius and Fate would argue. Yeshua had the final say of course, but He always heard them out.

He’d been known to change His mind from time to time because of their heated debates, so the rest of the Siblings had learned it was worthwhile to speak their minds and plead their case or that of the humans they’d been assigned to look after throughout all time.

Yeshua stood from the overstuffed chair at the head of the table and welcomed them with open arms. “My sisters! It’s good to see you working so closely together with this Evangeline fiasco. I’m very pleased with the direction it’s taken.”

Beautiful woman mermaid with fantasy makeup in wreathRhiannon kissed Him on the cheek. “Really? I could’ve sworn you’d tossed the remote at the screens only yesterday after my last report. I had been convinced you’d jump in Yourself.”

“Nonsense. My frustration got the best of me is all. Nothing more. Nothing less. In Evangeline’s case, Karma and Lucius had been right from the start. The human has squandered every chance you’ve granted her. It’s time to turn the tables on her and why I asked Lucius to bring you here now.”

“Turn the tables? I don’t understand. I thought that’s what Karma has done.” Rhiannon looked between her Brothers with wide eyes, her face filled with uncertainty and concern.

Yeshua pointed to the screen that featured Evangeline’s smiling face. “If she fails the final tests, We wash our hands of her.”

Lucius toyed with his goatee and then smiled. “It’s good to hear You say that. Not all Our creations deserve the second chance to get things right in one lifetime. Some have been through dozens and still haven’t learned their lessons.”

Yeshua nodded. “That’s why I’ve decided for this one—if she does not embrace her destiny now, she’ll not have another chance.”

Karma stood before Him stunned into silence. Never before has He ruled a soul could not be reincarnated to begin again. “I don’t understand. If she fails then this lifetime will be her last?”

“My dear, Karma. I’ve grown weary of allowing mortals such as Evangeline Cross to come back time and time again to make others miserable. Why should she continue to benefit from the work of and on the backs of her fellow-man?”

“Forgive me, Brother. It saddens me to see You this way.”

“Why? Haven’t you said all alone I made the wrong choice to give them free will? That I’d end up broken-hearted in the end?”

Her eyes welled with tears. “Yes, but perhaps I’ve been too harsh. There are some who’ve earned the Blessings and have gone on to help others.”

“True, but their numbers are dwindling. That’s why I’ve come to this decision. Those who twist the Blessings to harm others will no longer be able to come back and repeat the travesty in the next—or any other lifetime.”

She looked to Lucius for help and sent him a silent plea. What do I do?

He lifted his chin toward Yeshua. Go on. Ask him.

“Then give me the chance to find other mortals worthy of Your Blessings.”

Yeshua returned to his chair and sighed. “You know Fate is against this.”

Beautiful sweet blond womanShe nodded and then sat at his feet. She held his right hand with both of hers. She held his gaze and wept freely. She felt His sorrow and pain to her very core. “You asked me to step into Lucius’s shoes and be firm but fair with the humans. Until I know their hearts as You do, I cannot hope to perform my duties without wishing to strike out at those who’ve taken away the smile from Your eyes. That sadness tells me you’ve given up.”

He squeezed her small fingers between his. “I’ve not surrendered if that’s what you mean. It’s more of an acceptance. Too few of my human children embrace their gifts. Instead they use them for evil, or even worse—they’re indifferent to each other and the damage they’ve caused.”

“Let me do this and I will find more who deserve their second chances.”

“Go ahead, Yeshua. Grant her this wish.”

All turned to find Fate standing in the doorway. Her violet gown floated about her as she entered the room. She tossed her deep auburn curls over her shoulder and sighed. “I can’t stand in her way simply because I’m afraid to lose her too.”

Lucius smiled. “I thought you’d be happy to get me out of your hair.”

She scowled and embraced him. While I’ll not miss the fights, I will miss your handsome face across the table. You’ve kept me on my toes every moment. I cannot continue to be selfish. Even gods must follow their hearts. I’ve known you’d find Brigid sooner rather than later, but I never thought it would be now. That part has been hidden even from me.”

“I’m not gone yet.” He kissed her forehead and held her to his chest.

“No you’re not, which makes this the perfect time for Karma to live on Earth for a bit.” Fate’s Irish brogue thickened as she became more emotional.

Karma got up from the floor and through her arms around Fate and Lucius. “Thank you!”

“Now don’t get too excited. You’re still expected to carry out your present duties. While you’ll appear human, you’ll still have all your powers. With that comes a great responsibility. There are those who would do anything to take away your Gifts and turn them against you. You must be on guard at all times.”

Close-up portrait of threatening man with beard wearing a hood“Black Heart?” Karma’s spine tingled at just the thought of the vile creature that’d been a thorn in the side of The Three since the days of Adam and Eve.

Fate pursed her lips and her emerald-green eyes blazed. “Aye. He has spies everywhere and I’m sure he’s heard the rumors about Lucius stepping down. He’s never forgiven him or Us for the curse. While he cannot do anything to Lucius, Malachi could harm you while you’re in mortal form.”

“I’ll be careful.”

Yeshua beckoned to her to sit in the chair next to His. “As a human with your powers, you may find you wish to exact immediate punishment or reward. Think before you do to be sure it’s deserved. Justice will be with you, but he is not immortal. If he is slain, he is dead and will have to wait for the next life cycle to return. If you are drained of your powers as a human, you too will die.”

“I’ll lose my immortality?”

He nodded. “Only for a short time. You will come back, but at a great cost. It weakens all the Eternal Siblings when one must regenerate. It leaves all of us vulnerable to attack.”

She shook her head. “But not You.”

“No, not me but I could lose some or all of our brothers and sisters. I could not bear it. The world and heavens as We know them now, would cease to exist. Knowing the risks, do you still wish to do this?”

She glanced around the room. All eyes were upon her. Rhiannon’s appeared filled with anxiety. Fate’s appeared filled with resignation, and Lucius’s amber eyes glowed with determination and faith in her.

“I do.”

“Then so be it”

“Mr. Cross, I don’t think it’s wise to discharge your wife in her current state. She’s extremely agitated and we’re concerned she may harm herself again.”

His eyes darted to the shiny name tag on the other man’s lab coat. “Dr. Justice, with all due respect, don’t be stupid. She didn’t try to kill herself. She had a frickin’ stroke.”

The doctor nodded. “She did suffer a stroke, yes but she also consumed two bottles of wine by her own admission as well as a fist full of Alprazolam.”

He closed his eyes and fell back against the wall. The pills had been a new prescription his own doctor had prescribed for him. He’d tossed the bottle in his dresser drawer, determined to not use them unless absolutely necessary. They were for panic attacks and came with specific instructions to never mix them with alcohol.

After his last fight with Evangeline, he’d looked for them. When he couldn’t find them, he thought he’d misplaced them. Then all the shit hit the fan with her publisher and he’d practically ripped the bedroom apart searching for the medication. All he’d wanted to do was relax enough to get a decent night’s rest. Now here he was talking to a man much too young and good-looking to be a doctor concerned about his wife’s mental state.

“Dad, maybe we should have her committed.” Marissa’s soft voice rang in his ears and brought him back to the discussion.

“Committed? She won’t stand for that. She’ll just check herself out of here.”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. She can’t walk. The stroke affected her entire right side of her body. We need to give her time to heal mentally and physically. With as much Alprazolam and alcohol she had in her system, I can legally hold her here for the next seventy-two hours. It would be best if she heard it from you and she’s here voluntarily.

“This is the best place for her. She needs to stay off the Internet and out of sight.” Marissa touched the faint bruise on her cheek.

He clenched his jaw. He’d never known Evangeline to get physical with their daughter before. When he’d seen the hand print on her pale skin, he’d seen red. The only thing that had kept him from confronting his wife had been the fact she had to be taken away in an ambulance. Time to face the facts. Evie’s turned into a stranger and if I don’t put my foot down now and get her the help she needs, we’re all lost. “I’ll talk to her, but I can’t promise you she’ll listen.”

“You’ve always been able to get through to her, Dad. We have to be strong now. This is for her own good. She’s been out of control and I’m scared.”

“What do you mean?” No child should feel afraid for her parent. I’ve failed my daughter.

“She’s been manic and obsessed with her book sales and rankings. If they fell below some random number in her head, she’d flip out. Last week she sobbed uncontrollably when her last book fell off the Bliss and Amazon best seller lists. She’d been frantic to set up more giveaways. I kept telling her the she was attracting the wrong kind of people with those things but she didn’t care. As long as they bought the books, she didn’t give a shit if they actually read them. She maxed out yet another credit card ordering those knock off handbags.”

Where the hell was I when this all happened?

Who was he kidding? He knew. They’d had another fight over her out of control spending on the gift baskets. Once again she’d refused to listen and told him flat out to mind his own business. He’d left and checked into a hotel downtown just to get away from her and her drunken rages.

It’s not like they were heading for bankruptcy. He’d had his thriving editing business and online magazine. His income alone had always been enough—until she started attending every reader and author convention she could find. The costs of print books and swag were enough to wipe out one credit card, but then she had to go bigger than everyone else. She’d actually hired her own entourage to man her tables so she could concentrate on signing and not deal with the money aspect.

He’d tried to get her to pick a few key meet and greets and then cut out the rest. She’d refused to listen. The last straw had been a call from their bank informing him she’d taken out a loan using her SUV as collateral. The banker had been an old college buddy of his and had given him the heads up.

She’d blown through all the money and then some. Huge chunks of it went to the critique partner to buy her silence. He found that out two days ago. He’d been floored with her admission and utterly defeated.

She’d become someone he didn’t care to know let alone be married to anymore. It had damn near broken his heart to tell her so. Remembering the moment now, threatened to do it again.

couple at restaurant“I’m tired of fighting with you. I didn’t sign up for this bullshit.”

“For better or worse ring a bell?” She’d sneered and then tossed an empty wine bottle at his head.

“Don’t throw our vows in my face, Evie. I’ve been by your side through every doctor appointment, hospital stay and every round of chemo. This is a whole other ball of wax. You’re asking me to be an accomplice to your lies. What you’ve done is not only dishonest, it’s illegal.”

“No. I paid her for the work. She’s like my ghost writer.”

“You’re twisting this to suit your needs and justify all the lies you’ve told your fans and Bliss.”

“Stop calling it lies. I’ve not done anything all the other top Romance authors haven’t done.” She opened another bottle of Pinot Grigio and filled her glass to the top.

“Really? The ones who had been caught plagiarizing, you watched fall and had a party to celebrate. You’re the one who turned in your biggest competition to those bloggers and sat back while her career combusted over one book. You’ve done it with two full series—sixteen books in total. How many more will it be?”

“As many as I want. Don’t you even think about messing this up for me, Dallas. It’s finally my turn at the top. I won’t let you take that away from me too.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean? I’ve given you everything you’ve ever wanted and more.”

“Except another child!”

“You were sick and your doctor gave me a choice, either you or the baby. I couldn’t save you both.”

“You knew I wanted him more than life itself and you took that choice from me. I’ll never forgive you for that.”

Chapter 3 Karma memeFifteen years later she’d still tossed that in his face. She’d been hemorrhaging and they had to take her uterus. Their son had lived three hours. Long enough for him to hold him and say goodbye. Evangeline never got that chance because she’d been on the operating table for over ten hours in order for her doctors to remove all the cancer that had ravaged her breasts and her body a second time.

Marissa had been their miracle after the doctors had told them the chemotherapy had rendered her infertile. The second pregnancy had been a complete surprise. Devastation had set in when told her cancer had returned. Chemotherapy had been out of the question during the pregnancy, so the cancer ran wild.

When she’d started to bleed, the doctors had taken her to surgery to save both of them. In the end, Dallas had been the one to make the horrible decision of which to save.

There was no way he’d wanted to raise two kids on his own. Evangeline and Marissa had been his life—heart and soul. While he wished the outcome had been different, he knew he’d made the right decision for his family. All had agreed.

Except his wife.

Whenever she wanted to cut him to his core, she’d bring up the loss of their son and he’d cave in to whatever she wanted to make her happy. As much as he hated to admit it, he’d created the monster who lay strapped to the hospital bed before him. If he’d stopped her from going down the path from the start, demanded both of them get counselling, maybe they’d be living a whole other life.

Now he had to pick up the pieces of their lives and figure out a way to move on, even if it meant losing her in the process.

Chapter 2 Karma meme

Welcome back to Behind Closed Doors and the next chapter from Karma In Blue Jeans (Immortal Siblings). For those of you who are visiting for the first time, let me give you a brief explanation of this book and the series. Karma’s story came about in response to several issues I’ve seen crop up in the publishing world as well as the news and my life outside of my writing. We’ve all heard the “what comes around goes around” saying and many toss out barbs about the Karma Train coming for their enemies. I thought why not give Karma a face and a voice. Let’s see how she doles out punishments and rewards. The more I wrote in my Karma notebook, the more I found her story as well as those of her siblings would fit well as a cross over between my Now and Forever series and my Kayne Legacy series. Both have gods and goddesses as characters and the Immortal Siblings series is the perfect vehicle for me to explore the other characters and tie together all of story lines. It’s been a natural process for me because all of them are connected. It had been difficult for me to keep them separate so I gave in and let them tell their story.

This book has been a pleasure to write. I’m loving all the characters even the villains. LOL! I hope you do too. If you missed last week’s posting of Chapter One, click HERE. When you’re all caught up, please join me back here for Chapter 2. Leave a comment. I’d love to hear what you think of the story so far!

Enjoy!

Chapter 2

Beautiful blond woman.hairstyle.salon care.sexy young girl “Did you see what I’ve been dealing with here? She’s going to lose her soulmate because she can’t admit she’s cheated and lied her way to where she is today.”

Karma sighed. “Ms. Cross will be confronted by those she used to lead in attacking others. They’ve already begun cutting ties with her. Reviews are being pulled and changed from five stars to one star. The tumble she loved to watch her competition go through is happening to her and headed into a full on free fall.”

“Is there hope for her?”

She draped her arm around Rhiannon’s waist. “There’s always hope. She simply has to reach out and accept the help offered with grace and humility.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen based on her track record with me.”

Lucius materialized in front of them. Karma smiled. He’d been stopping in on her assignments more and more as of late. Not that it bothered her. She adored him and wished they’d spent more time together instead of it always being on the job.

He nodded and appeared to be pleased with her work. “You went with a multipronged attack with this one. Brilliant.”

Rhiannon laughed. “She did learn from the best.”

He bowed and kissed her hand. “I do my best to share my secrets with those meant to take over when I’m gone.”

Karma sighed. “So you’ve made up your mind then? The Priestess is worth giving up everything and eternity for?”

He hugged her and chuckled. “She is and so much more. Brigid understands me and accepts who I am. She didn’t ask me to give up my powers. In fact, she left me when I told her my intentions.”

“She did what?” Karma admired Brigid more in that moment than she’d ever admit. She was willing to walk away from her soulmate in order for him to continue as one of The Three. That took courage and sacrifice, two traits she looked for in all mortals.

“It’s when Yeshua knew He couldn’t deny my request. While we’d created so many worlds together, He could read my heart like no other. He knew before I did that I would do this.”

Rhiannon snorted. “It’s that family of hers. Fate intervened with the lot of them and their friends. When she sets her mind to something, Yeshua sees that it happens. You, dear Brother were a casualty of that, albeit a pleasant one. Personally I adore the little minx who claimed your heart. She’s full of fire, the only kind able to control you.”

He smiled. “That she does. Now that I know Karma will be able to handle things, my transformation will take place soon.”

“Not before I get to spend time among them.”

“It’s not necessary…”

“I disagree. Cases like Evangeline Cross are easy. There are others who will take more finesse. I need to know how they think in certain situations. That will help me design their trials and tests.”

“I’m not the one you have to convince. You may be able to use Fate’s intervention with Brigid’s family to your advantage.”

homme caucasien beaut - fauteuil baroqueRhiannon agreed. “Mortals haven’t changed much through the centuries. Sure they have more toys and can communicate with each other instantly, but at their core, they’re all the same. If you feel you must experience life among them to do your job, then Yeshua will agree.”

“He wasn’t having any of it the last time I broached the subject.”

“He’s had time to mull it over and has listened to a few of us who feel you need to do this.”

She stared at Rhiannon. “What do you mean? Have you talked to Him about this behind my back?”

“No. It wasn’t a secret. You’ve been busy lately and I simply took the opportunity to let him know I supported you. I reminded him He has allowed me to do what you’ve asked and it hasn’t changed me.”

Lucius took both of their hands. “Come. Let’s make your case to Them now. Between the three of us, I’m sure we can get Their blessing.”

She smiled. “Are you sure you must leave us for The Priestess?”

He nodded. “She has been my destiny from the very beginning. Now is our time. One day you’ll be faced with the same choice.”

“Bite your tongue! I have more than enough on my plate with Justice and his shenanigans. Living disguised as a mortal is one thing. Giving up my powers is another—and completely out of the question.”

The three of them faded and left Evangeline alone to discover just how far she’d fallen.

 “@evangeline is a fraud and thief #StopPlagiarism”

“@evangeline lied and cheated her way up the ranks #TheMightyWillFall”

“I’ve deleted all @evangeline books. Will support the #RealAuthor”

She scrolled through page after page of tweets all calling her out for an explanation or joining the mobs bombing her everywhere. With one click, she deleted her Twitter account. I don’t need that bullshit. She opened a new window and navigated to her website to shut off comments on her blog. She’d decided to not go the extra step and make the site private—yet. She needed to keep up the illusion she was going to fight this lawsuit and not run from it.

She gulped down the last of the wine in her glass and then deleted the nasty comments that had escaped her filters. Her eyes snapped away from her the screen as the front door slammed. She cringed as the telltale sound of broken glass reached her ears. My vase collection!

She bolted from her office to find her daughter, Marissa on her knees picking up the pieces of glass and pottery that covered the floor. “How many times have I told you not to slam that door?”

Her daughter sat back on her heels and glared. “Are you kidding me right now? I’ve had the worst day of my life thanks to you and you’re bitching about me slamming the door. Unfrickinbelievable!”

“Hey! You may be eighteen, but you live in my house and you won’t talk to me like that.”

Marissa rolled her eyes. “I don’t give a shit, Mother. It’s all over school what you did. Do you have any idea what it’s like to have people ask if you’re still going to follow in your mother’s footsteps? My English professor called me into her office today and asked me flat out if everything I’d turned in to her was my own work.”

She stood and carried the larger pieces of debris to the kitchen. She tossed them in the trash and then grabbed the Dustbuster from the charging station. She stomped back to the entryway and collided with Marissa, knocking her to the floor again. “Look. This whole mess will be worked out in court. It’s all lies. The judge will see it and then we can get back to normal.”

Marissa stood up and leaned against the wall. “You’re delusional. I’m not a little kid you can tell bullshit lies to anymore.”

“I’m not lying, Mar. This is all a big mistake. I submitted every book to Bliss, worked through edits, and rewrites. They’re my words…my work.”

“No. You stole someone else’s work and passed it off as your own. The original manuscripts didn’t belong to you. You had no right to send them to Bliss or any other publisher.”

“You’re turning on me too? First your father and now you. I can’t do this right now. I have to get ready for my doctor’s appointment.”

“Appointment for what? Is it for your fibromyalgia you don’t have or are you having another cancer scare?”

She slapped Marissa and knocked her back against the wall. Her body shock and her chest tightened. It took all her self-control not to slap her daughter over and over again. “You will show me respect while you live under my roof.”

Marissa’s eyes glistened with tears and she touched the red hand print blooming on her cheek. “Don’t worry. I’ll be out of your hair within the hour.”

She reached out but froze when Marissa recoiled from her touch. This was supposed to be my happily ever after and now it’s all gone to hell.

Woman using laptopEvangeline vacuumed up the rest of the shards and then returned to her office to start damage control. She opened up her private Facebook group page dedicated to her street team, Evie’s Angels. At least these people stand by me.

“Hello my Angels!”

“Evie! We’ve been worried sick.”

“I told you she wouldn’t leave us hanging.”

She grinned and licked her lips. This is going to be so fucking easy. “I had to gather myself together before I came here to be with ya’ll—the only people who’ve stood by me through everything.”

She giggled with glee as message after message popped up expressing their unwavering support. All the expensive prizes she’d given them to promote her work had not only helped her sales but had ingratiated her in their hearts. They’d do anything to get another handbag or piece of one of a kind jewelry. Little did they know, all of it was as fake as her online persona. She couldn’t give a rat’s as about any of them, but if they could get her through this, she’d consider changing her mind for some of them. The rest had always grated on her nerves.

“This legal snafu is just that. It’s all a huge misunderstanding. Each book Bliss put out under my name is mine. The truth will come out. In the meantime, I could use your thoughts and prayers. With my books pulled from Bliss and Amazon, my family will have to take a huge hit. I found out today my last mammogram detected another suspicious spot. It’s been five years cancer free for me and now it all comes tumbling down.”

She watched as more messages flashed on her screen detailing support and asking her to tell them what they can do. “I need help, my Angels. I’ve set up a GoFundMe account to help with the medical bills and other expenses with this court case. I’m not asking you all for a dime. You’ve done more than enough for me already just by being here. If you could share the link for the GoFundMe page, I’d be forever grateful.”

She waited.

And waited.

No response to her plea.

Sweat trickled down her back as the seconds ticked away.

“You got it, Evie!”

“Anything for our girl!”

Thank God. She emptied the last of the bottle of wine into her glass and read every word of encouragement as they filled her screen.

And then it happened.

“Sorry, Evangeline. I won’t share your crowd funding link like the rest of these lemmings. I stayed here waiting for you to explain yourself, maybe even apologize for what you’ve done and for all the lies you’ve told. Boy, talk about a huge disappointment! Instead of begging for a handout, maybe you should tell the truth. Your daughter did.”

The room spun in front of her eyes. The glass slipped from her hand, bounced on the floor, and then soaked the white carpet with the wine. Her phone blew up with email and text notifications. She stood and clutched her chest. Her knees buckled and then she collapsed.

Marissa rushed into the room.

She couldn’t hear a word her daughter yelled at her, nor could she speak. She tried to squeeze her hand to let her know she was still there, but her body failed her again. If I get through this, I’ll make it right. I promise.

EXCERPT

Perhaps he’d been under too much stress, had too much caffeine, didn’t have enough sleep or information about the guy. More likely a combination of it all. A hodgepodge of shit and no shovel. He didn’t know how much more of all this he could take.

Shaking off the negativity, Alden rotated his head, listening to his spine crackle and pop. Tension released. The quick adjustment perked him up. He plated the burgers, closed the lid to the grill and exhaled a deep breath. First food, then work, and amongst it all, see if I can figure out Mr. Jenkins’s deal. Making his way toward the small group, the tray of hot meat balanced on one hand, he focused in on Cor, noting his body language and how the people around him responded.

Why did I imagine him as the antagonist? The one in the game I need to destroy?

The storyline he had to double check during the playtest dealt with finding the main boss—the Prince of Clan Caesachapel—and defeating him before the cad could cause harm. He’d intended to assist Hope and her family in creating ‘good’ characters, placing them in the clan he belonged to, and have them run the quests, as well. But with the way he’d been feeling, he almost reconsidered that idea.

openworld_CMoss_1600x2400Thing was he had a job to do. One he aimed to make good on and see through to the end. He’d never been the kind of guy to shirk a duty, and he wasn’t about to start now.

Mr. James Collins, a middle-aged man with graying, strawberry blond hair and ice blue eyes, glanced Den’s way as he approached. James acknowledged him with slight nod, then returned his attention to Cor.

The fact James was only a programmer and not his direct boss—or above him in any authoritative capacity in the organization—pleased Den. The man sure ran hot one moment and cold the next when it came to him. Hope had explained that was one of her father’s personality quirks and not to take it personal.

Some future father-in-law he would turn out to be.

Plastering a smile on his face, he placed the dish of meat on the aluminum table. James and the ladies’ attentions stayed fixed on the gentleman in their midst. Good. No one paid him any mind. More time to assess the situation.

Cor’s intense brown-eyed gaze bored into Hope’s, infiltrating her defenses and working whatever magic the man seemed to possess. Their connection resembled flirting but in a stronger sense. His chest tightened and burned. Mine, his inner voice asserted in a low, rolling growl, reminding him of his in game character’s speech. Alden stepped back before he could choose to put his fist in Cor’s face. His foot crunched on a chip bag that had fallen to the ground.

Hope didn’t flinch, didn’t look away.

Mesmerized. Shit. And not just her. Enthralled by the bean counter, the whole family overlooked him like he didn’t exist.

What the hell is going on?

#SPeekSunday: @dochappycamper shares Snippets from THE SURRENDER OF JULIA #LGBT #Eroticromance

Welcome to my first Sneak Peek Sunday. Each week, a group of authors share six paragraphs from a current work in progress or published piece. The entire list of this week’s participants can be found by clicking on the image above. For my part, I’ve decided to share six paragraphs from my latest release The Surrender of Julia (Now and Forever 3). Here is where we’re first introduced to The Three, the trio of gods known as the Eternal Siblings. In the chapter this scene is taken from, we learn they’ve decided to intervene in the lives of a specific group of humans all interconnected with each other. Julia’s life is the topic of conversation at the moment. Something about her tugs at the heart of the Goddess Fate and her youngest brother, Lucius.

Released December 29, 2013
Released December 29, 2013

The entire far wall of the mountainside chalet was covered with high definition television screens. Modern technology fascinated The Three. They were able to keep track of their human creations, using the very gadgets invented by them.

Lucius in particular, seemed fond of the wireless technology used in cell phones and personal computers. With a few swift clicks on the keyboard of his laptop, all the screens came to life with pictures of the people they were gathered to discuss.

Yeshua, the eldest of the Eternal Siblings, sat in a large, overstuffed easy chair, taking in all the lives playing out on the screens before him. His deep blue eyes scanned through everything in seconds, immediately recognizing those in view.

These humans were the favorites of his sister, Fate. Once again, she wished to plead the case of another of the group. Apparently, this particular human seemed to be special—to Lucius as well.

“Why should we intervene with Julia’s life path now?” Yeshua asked. “Isn’t enough we’re allowing the Guardians to help Quinn and Jacob find each other? Wouldn’t it be wise to just see how it all plays out for the rest from this point on?”

The tall, dark, brooding God of Trials and Tribulations rolled his amber eyes. “As you’ve pointed out on numerous occasions dear Brother, our interference with any life path affects more than just one creation. By giving Jacob and Quinn their chance to bond on the Island, we’ve opened up too many other variables for the others. In order to keep them all on their chosen paths, we have to give a nudge here and there.” Lucius smiled at Fate. “Your new Guardians should be able to handle all of them, although I think they’ll need your help a bit with Julia.”

Want to know more? You’ll have to pick up your own copy of the book and read it for yourself. 🙂  Will Fate’s intervention come in time or will Julia ultimately give up on her chance at a happily ever after with the one who holds her heart?

#ThrowbackThursday: @dochappycamper Reunites #Fated Lovers in THE ISLAND #eroticromance #Vegas

Throwback Thursday layers

Welcome to Behind Closed Doors! Today I’m continuing in the theme I started with the last post. I’m visiting with fated lovers Jake and Quinn from The Island (Now and Forever 2). They had a hell of a time finding their way back to each other. Readers have been more than a bit ticked off at me for not leaving Quinn with the billionaire Steve. In fact, they DEMANDED to know why Jake had to be the one for her when everything pointed to Steve.

ebook available at Bookstrand.com

That’s when The Island was born. I had only wanted to write a short story to explain how the two were fated through each and every lifetime to be together. If they didn’t find each other in one, they’d keep going through them until they made the right choices. Well, seems they took too long to do it and the gods had to intervene. Specifically, the Goddess Fate and two of her Guardian Angels. They didn’t have an easy go of it with these two let me tell ya! Fate knew what she was doing though. She picked the perfect angels to help her: Jake’s father Michael and Quinn’s brother Daniel. Who better to knock some sense into these two than the people they loved the most?

Here’s the blurb:

After losing her brother in a fatal motorcycle accident, Quinn’s life spins out of control. Shutting herself off from friends and family in Michigan, she buries herself in her work, wishing for the pain to end. In her dreams she’s finally able to find the peace her heart craves on The Island.

Driven to recklessness over a heartbreaking betrayal, Jacob races his motorcycle on a rain slick California freeway. Near death in the hospital, he’s given a choice. Stay on The Island or go back for a second chance at love.

Destined to be together, but repeatedly torn apart, these two lost and melancholy people draw the attention of the Goddess Fate. As Quinn and Jacob’s lives hang in limbo, the soul mates are given a very special gift from the Gods, and the chance to finally have their love of a lifetime.

here’s an excerpt for you to enjoy as well. It’s for ADULTS ONLY! If you’re under 18 years of age, you shouldn’t be in here anyway so go ahead and leave now…

Ready? Enjoy!

Adult Excerpt (EXPLICIT! Adults only!)

His eyes found hers once again and she began to fall. She didn’t care. Thoughts of going back or staying there on The Island disappeared. All she wanted to think about, to feel, and taste was Jacob. Quinn pulled his mouth back to hers. The sweet taste of the berries, mango, and papaya dazzled her taste buds as their tongues teased and danced with each other, fighting for control one moment and surrendering to each other the next.

Jacob finally freed her tits from the laces of her bodice. Watching him tug at the strings with his teeth made her heart beat faster and she giggled before she could stop. He winked and kept up the slow pace. Quinn giggled even more. “I stand by my first assessment. You’re a tease, Jake.”

“Baby doll, you haven’t seen anything yet.” He pushed her dress down to her waist and simply stared. “I’m not the only tease here.”

“What are you talking about?” Quinn slid her fingertips up and down his arms. His muscles twitched and pulsed at her touch. She wanted those arms wrapped around her and to never let go.

“You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. You don’t flaunt it, but every move and noise you make turns me on. I wanted to take this slow, but I can’t.”

“Stop thinking so much and kiss me.” She pushed herself up to meet his mouth once again as they moved on the bed so she was now on top of him. Jacob’s hands slid up her thighs, leaving hot trails with his fingertips. Her body quaked and her pussy clenched as a rush of fluid soaked her panties completely.

Jacob hooked his thumbs in the band of her underwear, snapped them off, and tossed them onto the floor. His hands slid up her body, pulling the dress up and over her head in a flash. He sat up, holding her in his lap, nuzzling first one breast and then the other with his stubbly chin and cheeks. The roughness of his skin against her rock-hard nipples sent her rolling toward another orgasm. She clung to him as he suckled harder on her right nipple while kneading her left breast with his hand. Quinn arched her back and bit her lip before crying out. “Jake, please don’t—”

He pulled back quickly, moving his hands to cradle her face. Concern filled his eyes. “Did I hurt you?”

Her eyes glistened with tears. “No. Please don’t stop.”

The catch in her voice nearly broke his heart. The raw passion was there. Her body given freely to him, and yet she still questioned his desire for her. He knew that pain all too well. Here with Quinn though, it all faded away. She did that for him and he wanted so badly to do the same for her. He wiped away the tears that spilled onto her flushed face. He kissed her softly and held her close. “I want you, now and for however long we can be together. I need to be with you. I won’t stop as long as you want the same.”

Quinn slid off his lap and knelt up on the bed, pulling him up with her. She held his gaze as her fingers unfastened his shorts and then slid them down over his hips. Jacob quickly took off his tank top before crushing Quinn’s chest against his. She smiled and his heart beat quickened. “I need you, too. Make love with me, Jake.”

He slid out of his shorts as Quinn eased back onto the pillows. Jacob took in her entire sun-kissed body, naked before him. God, she’s so beautiful. Quinn welcomed him into her arms as he joined her on the pillows, his mouth finding her left nipple this time as his right hand trailed down her stomach.

She arched her back and moaned as soon as his fingers found her throbbing clit. Another wave of fluid gushed out of her and over his fingers. Jacob brought them up to his mouth to taste her. “Mmmm. You taste fucking fantastic. Your sister was right. Wanna try?”

Quinn giggled and licked his fingers clean. That move sent his body over the edge. His cock was bouncing with his need for her, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by his lover. She reached inside the nightstand for the box of condoms, spilling several over the bed. Jacob smiled as he placed one in her open palm. Quinn slid her hands down his abs to his pulsing member. She wrapped her fingers around his shaft and squeezed a little, eliciting a gasp from him. Carefully she tore open the wrapper with her teeth and quickly covered his cock with the ribbed latex sheath. He thrust his hips forward, causing her hand to slide up and down his shaft. “Oh, now who’s teasing?” Jacob moaned.

He eased Quinn all the way back onto the pillows, and slid down her body toward his prize. He wanted more than just a taste. He wanted to feast on her cunt until she begged for him to take her. He positioned himself between her thighs and looked up to see her watching him, her chest rising and falling rapidly. He winked before popping her clit into his mouth and sucking hard. Quinn nearly bucked him off but he held her hips in place, enjoying her squirming and sighs. It wasn’t long at all before he was rewarded once again with her sweet nectar.

He teased her a bit more with his tongue and then slipped one, two and then three fingers inside of her hot folds. Her pussy clenched repeatedly over his fingers and her body convulsed over and over again. Quinn’s skin flushed from her tits to her toes, because of him, because of what he was doing to her. He wanted more, so much more. He couldn’t wait any longer. He wanted to bury his cock deep inside her, go over the edge, and never come back.

#TantalizingTuesday Presents Author Ruby Fielding and Her New #shifter #paranormal

Tantilizing Tuesdays

Welcome to Tantalizing Tuesday here at Behind Closed Doors. As many of you may have already discovered, the Guest Author Guidelines have been removed from the menu tabs. There’s a reason for that. I’ve decided to not advertise I will host guest authors. I’m still going to do it from time to time, just not as often as before. I’ve decided to use my blogs for promoting me and my work more. It’s all part of a new year, new me sort of thing. Since today is one of the rare occasions I’ll have a guest, I’d like to invite you to sit back and relax while author Ruby Fielding answers a few questions about her latest release. Hunted: A Shifters’ World looks to be a very steamy read…even if you’re not into shifters. Of course if you weren’t before, you just may be a convert after this one! Enjoy!~Tammy

You argue that shifters should be scary, but we’re talking shifter romance here – what is it about shapeshifters that’s sexy?

There’s a long tradition of shifters as objects of desire – all those old vampire stories are just dripping with lust: stories of possession and penetration.

Yes, shifters should be scary, but in many ways that makes them more sexy, not less. I love that extra frisson of danger and risk: if a story doesn’t have that, then it’s just a romance. This is fine – I’m a sucker for a good romance – but I want my paranormal romances to get under the skin. There should be thrills, risks: genuine tension that heightens the romance, and makes any happy ever after hard-earned.

It’s an animal thing, too. It’s about those raw, intense passions and needs. You don’t get much more alpha-male than a shifter hero, a man who can just sweep you off your feet and possess you. As a writer it lets me explore intense attraction and giving yourself up to desire. It’s fascinating, and damn me, but it’s hot.

swhuntedIf you had to pick a single line from Hunted to share, what would it be?

“He put a hand to her face then, his knuckles brushing along her jaw and then he buried his fingers in her hair, tipping her head back. His mouth came down on her neck: hard lips and then the wet heat of his tongue and the delicious pain of raking teeth, dragging across her skin to that point where too hard is exactly hard enough.” (Okay, I cheated: that’s two lines, but what the Hell…)

How did you end up as an author?

I’ve always written, and I think I’ve always wanted to be a writer of some kind. At school I wrote stories that featured my friends and made fun of the teachers – it was how I tried to be cool. Someone really should have told me there were easier ways to be cool.

At university I worked on my college newspaper, and I went into journalism and advertising copyrighting. I still do bits and pieces of all kinds of writing, but on my own terms: I have the luxury of variety and being able to pick and choose and somehow being able to get by.

What’s a typical writing day for Ruby Fielding? Do you have any routines or quirks that help you to work?

For many, writing is a solitary activity, but I love the buzz of everyday life around me. So wherever I happen to be living, you’re likely to find me at the nearest wifi hot spot with my laptop and a large mug of coffee. Right now, I’m living in a forest cabin in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and it really is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. I wake early, drink coffee and do my chores, then – if I’m not completely snowed in! – I follow the trail down into town and settle down at my usual table by the window in a wonderful little coffee and cake shop. I’ll write in bursts, and the rest of the time I’ll be watching the world go by, or chatting with other regulars or the lovely owners. Now who wouldn’t want an office like that?

What’s next for you? Will we see more from Shifter’s World soon?

Definitely! I’m hooked. I haven’t started it yet, as I’m focusing on another book project, among other things, but I’m hoping to get back into Shifter’s World soon. I’m torn about what to tackle next: although Hunted ends at a definite resolution, Selene’s story needs to be continued – I want to see where she goes next. Alternatively, I could pick some other characters in this setting and follow their story; I have a few ideas for that.

Definitely worth looking out for. Good luck with whatever comes next, Ruby.

BLURB

L.A. artist phenom Julia Santos appeared to have it all. After a nearly two year long dry spell, her creativity was at its peak and she had her muse and model Jacob Hartley to thank for it. He brought the fire and raw sexuality back to her sculptures and into her bedroom, and a sense of security that only one other person in her life had ever given her. At last she had found the perfect balance between her professional and private lives, until the day a single call from someone in her past threatened to tear her world apart.

Fearful of losing all she’d worked so hard to accomplish, Julia delved deeper into the hedonistic lifestyle she’d come to rely on to give her an escape from the horrors of her past. Instead of bringing her comfort, her sexual urges lead her down the path of destruction; not only for herself, but those around her.  With Jacob fighting for his life after a near fatal motorcycle accident and Julia on the brink of death herself, Fate and her Guardian Angel Daniel intervene and transport her to a safe haven called the Island.

There she’s given a choice: stay on the Island and wait for her next rebirth, or go back and fight to be with the one who has been there for her through every lifetime.  Will she take the easy way out and leave all the pain behind, or will she choose the long and hard road reliving the horrors of her childhood in order to have her happily ever after with the Mistress of her dreams?

ADULT F/F EXCERPT

Julia’s ass burned from the paddle and yet she craved more. She knew her Mistress would deliver the appropriate punishment. She always knew what to do for her to give them both the greatest amount of pleasure. “Yes, Mistress.” Julia placed her palms flat on the carpet, curled her fingers inward, and gripped the plush fibers as Carmen worked her with the paddle. A few times the edges of the paddle connected with her cunt sending jolts of pleasure and pain through her body, igniting the passion she hadn’t felt in a long time. This was definitely where she belonged, with her Mistress, her true soul mate.

“You’re going to get to know this paddle well, my sweet, but not all tonight. We’ve plenty of time together and I’ve a lot of instruction planned for you.” Carmen slipped her fingers between Julia’s pussy lips. “So wet for me already, kitten. Do you know how much that pleases me?”

“I’ll do anything to please you.” Julia thrust back toward Carmen as her fingers slid over her clit and then quickly withdrew. “Please don’t stop, Mistress.”

Carmen laughed softly as she rubbed soothing cream with her soft hands over Julia’s thighs and bottom. “Don’t you worry, there’s going to be plenty of time for you to come for me, my love. Since it’s been such a long time, your skin isn’t used to being worked, but it will be.”

Shivers flew up and down Julia’s spine. The combination of the heat from the paddle, the coolness of the cream, and the touch of Carmen’s hands became almost too much to take, and yet it was exactly what she needed and longed for from the very start. She felt a tug on her outer lips as the bell clamps were removed and cream worked into the skin where they’d been for the last few hours. Julia moaned again as Carmen spread her ass cheeks and slipped two fingers into her tight opening, coating her with the cream and stretching her with each feathering stroke.

Carmen picked up the crop with the special latex covered handle and bulb at the tip. It resembled a long, thick cock and was in fact, one of Julia’s favorite toys.

Tonight she would be reacquainted with it. Just the sight of it made her body ache with need. The feel of the dildo sliding between her cheeks, sent a flood of her juices down her inner thighs with nothing she could do about it. She couldn’t hold it back any longer and hoped it wouldn’t displease her Mistress too much. A smile slowly formed on her lips thinking about what would happen next if Carmen followed her usual routine.

The bulb of the handle slowly slid passed the initial resistance to embed deep within her. Julia’s clit throbbed in response to the fullness of the crop buried in her ass, and her hips rocked. She ground her pussy into the ottoman, attempting to give her clit some relief.

Carmen wasn’t going to allow it however. “Kneel up, hands behind your back, kitten.” She helped Julia get up and into position before shoving the crop a little deeper into her. “Now, I’m going to enjoy that hot bath you prepared for me. Keep your hands behind your back, legs apart, and that fake cock right where it is until I tell you otherwise. Are you okay with that or do you need a break, my pet?”

Julia swallowed hard and licked her lips. “I could use a drink of water, Mistress.”

Carmen held a bottle of water with a straw while Julia drained nearly half of it in three gulps.

“Thank you.”

Carmen kissed her forehead and then her lips softly. “I won’t be long and then we’ll start again. I was thinking of our last session after you visited me today. We had such a short time together then, not enough to really see what both of us were made of. But this time, oh honey, this time we are going to be able to let everything and everyone else go.”

#ThrowbackThursday @dochappycamper Interviews Vegas Tycoon From Her Now and Forever Series #eroticromance #Nov #ASMSG

Throwback Thursday layers

Welcome to Throwback Thursday at Behind Closed Doors.  Today I’m happy to welcome to the hot seat another of my favorite characters, Steven Eischer. For those of you who read the first book in my Now and Forever series (thank you!), you will remember the Vegas tycoon who swept Quinn off her feet the moment she  entered his casino. He was part of the love triangle I’ll never forget. You see, I never intended on having Quinn fall in love with two men. We’ll get back to that in just a bit.

First let me tell you a bit more about the hot, hunky man who as Quinn’s sister said “has more money than God.” He’s a self-made man, having worked his entire life for all that he has. Over the years he’s basically been married to his job and building his empire…2/3 of Las Vegas if anyone’s counting!  After two failed marriages, he wasn’t looking for a relationship when Quinn walked into his club at the MGM Grand.  One look into her eyes and he was done for. Not that he was complaining!

Unfortunately, Fate and her brothers had other plans for Mr. Eischer that didn’t include having Quinn as his life partner. His intuition picked up on that right off when he witnessed the reaction between Quinn and Jacob the first time they laid eyes on each other on the club dance floor.  How about I let him tell the story from here.  Come on out and say hello to the gang, Steve.

I love what you’ve done to the place over the last year, Tammy. Purple is our, I mean your favorite color right?  Oh, hello everyone! I hope Tammy hasn’t been filling your head with all sorts of nonsense like how I wouldn’t take a backseat and just have the one night stand with Quinn.

(I shake my head. It’s going to be one of those interviews. That devilish smile of his is coming out already and don’t get me started about how his emerald green eyes twinkle when he’s about to pounce. The Devil!)

Well, it’s true! I had intended on just having Quinn and Jacob’s story take off from the moment they come face to face in your club. You were the one who couldn’t stay in the background. One look at Quinn in that little red dress and you were smitten. It didn’t take you long to show her your penthouse, did it?

(Steve’s deep chuckle rumbles in his chest and makes my stomach do a few flips. Heaven help me. This is exactly what happened when he took over the first book!)

Well, you have to admit Quinn was smokin’ hot in that dress. I would’ve been a fool to let her slip through my fingers.  Truth be told, I took a gamble that night when I asked her to let me show her my Vegas. She could’ve stayed away from me too. I have to believe it was all going according to plan.

Really? Whose plan would that be?

Yours. Quinn’s the spitting image of you when we were together all those years ago. You were the one who left me all brokenhearted.

(now it’s my turn to laugh) Brokenhearted my ass! Within an hour after I left Vegas you were in the arms of not one but TWO supermodels. We had a lot of fun, I’ll give you that but brokenhearted? Seriously?

Okay, maybe not brokenhearted, but I did miss you a hell of a lot. Until Quinn and her sister strolled into my casino you were the sassiest broad I’ve ever known. No one will ever take your place, darlin’.

You’re still the sweet-talker, Mr. Eischer! Let’s get back to business shall we?  Knowing what you know now, would you have done anything differently when it came to Quinn and Jacob?

Not one thing. We were there for each other when it was needed the most. I was there for her when her entire world came crashing down. I helped Jake see the only woman he would ever be truly happy with was Quinn. Both of them brought me out the cycle of living, breathing, and eating my work. Nothing else mattered to me until they walked into my life. Now I’m even richer than I ever thought possible.  At the time, I would’ve given everything I had, everything I was if it meant Quinn could be happy with me. But then I had a visitor…

Did you? Whose visit could have made you go from telling Quinn she was your always and forever to chasing down Jake to make him snap out of it and claim his love of a lifetime?

The Lady herself. Fate appeared to me along with her Guardians. Together they filled me in on a few things. I was given a choice. If I chose Quinn then the paths of many others would be altered for this lifetime and the next, including the one who was to be my happily ever after.

I’m…I’m a bit shocked. Why didn’t you tell me this before? This could have made an entirely different outcome to the series—

Exactly. By not telling you about their visit, the stories of the others in our group will be told. And of course, now I get to spend a hell of a lot more time with you. You know, consulting!

(he winked at me! Goddess help me, if I wasn’t married to my own soul mate, I would indeed start up those all night “consulting” sessions!)

Damn it! You get me all unnerved when you wink at me like that. We are supposed to be talking about The Island. What role do you play in this one?

This one is told in flashbacks. It starts out a year after For the Love of Quinn ended. I don’t want to give away too much. I want folks to read our story and of course follow the rest of the series. The last I peeked at your notes, the series is up to nine books. When are you going to put out book three?

Gee, can’t we enjoy book two’s release first?  Don’t you worry. The Surrender of Julia (Now and Forever 3) is nearly finished  and books 4 and 5 are coming along as well. And yes, you’re in these too. Funny how you just weasel your way into all the books of this series. 😉

I told you before. I can’t stay away from you for very long. Even if you are married to your always and forever, there’s a part of you that you only shared with me. Admit it.

Well, you got me there. Maybe that’s why I keep telling your story. I love how you enjoy helping so many people fulfill their dreams and fantasies. Is that why you own or at least co-own most of Vegas?

Could be. It’s the one place where adults can let loose and enjoy themselves with little restrictions. Why not set up shop here? I get to meet such fascinating people. It’s where I met you. It was about twelve years ago, right?

It was and now’s the perfect time to end for today. How about you come back next week and we can pick up where we left off?

(he raises one eyebrow and flashes that damn crooked smile again.)

With the interview, Mr. Eischer. The interview.

Okay, but you know what it does to me when you say “Mr. Eischer” in that scolding school teacher voice. 😉

Do you see what I have to put up with folks? This is how it will be in every book. He is incorrigible! But I have to admit I wouldn’t want him to be any other way and neither will you when you read his story! Come back again next week for the second part of Steve’s interview.

Until then,

~Tammy

Saturday Spotlight

Hello my friends! Welcome to another Saturday Spotlight here at Behind Closed Doors. I’m Tammy Dennings Maggy and your host. Our guest today is fellow Siren author Tasha Blackstone. She’s here to tell us a bit about herself and to give us a little taste of her new fantasy/paranormal erotic romance Echo in the Night.  Today’s visit is only the first half of her interview. To get the next part, you’ll have to follow us over to Sassy Vixen Publishing day after tomorrow for Oh My! Monday.  So enough teasing. Let’s get on with the first part of our interview.

What inspires you to write?

I’m an only child and because my mom worked numerous jobs when I was a kid to support us, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents. I loved my grandparents but they were definitely aged and loved to watch the nightly news, 60 minutes and episodes of Hee Haw. I found it extremely boring and living in a world that was at the early, early stages of technology, my entertainment had to be created. It was during this time that I found my love of writing. I made up countless stories and over the years have found that my peace of mind can only be fully achieved when I am writing.

Are you a plotter or panster or a little of both?
A little bit of both, but I have to be careful. If I over plot, I lose the creativity and if I under plot, my scatter brain ADD causes me to forget important details.

Do you listen to music while writing?
I have to. Lol I don’t have my dream writer’s cave yet and my house tends to be hectic with kids and husband and dogs running around 24/7. If I don’t plug in, I get nothing done.

What kinds of music work best for you? Do different types of music help you for different types of scenes?
I am fortunate enough to have a music hoarder for a husband so I have an endless library of music that I can transfer over to my laptop at any given time, so I can honestly say that I listen to just about everything. I have found that different types of music helps move a scene forward. (I listened to Enigma on repeat during the club scene and absolutely loved how it helped set the tone).

Tell us about the different types of characters you like to write about? Why are these types so appealing to you?
I really like to write about the broken heroine and the morally conflicted hero. The heroine needs to be strong enough to survive on her own, but I’m drawn to the shattered aspect because a perfectly normal character is a little boring to me. I also love the conflicted hero. A man with a dark past, or questionable character, who can find redemption in choosing good or sacrificing himself for love. I find these types of characters to be more enjoyable to write because in reality, most of us are a little broken and little bit dark.

In what ways are your characters like you? In what ways are your characters not like you?
I pass of my insecurities to my characters and have given them some of my own inner battles to struggle with because I know how to feel them, but as for differences, I can admit that I’m not nearly as independent as my characters are. I don’t like to be alone and I’m fairly non-confrontational. I definitely enjoy being able to channel that inner part of me though through my character’s voice.

What are your favorite fiction genres to read from?
It’s basically a tie between Fantasy/Paranormal and Mystery/Crime drama. I love Faeries and Witches, supernatural creatures, and mermaids, and of course Vampires of all makes and models, however, I am also a murder mystery, suspense thriller junky!

Who are some of your favorite authors and why do you think they appeal so much to you?
I have been a dedicated Stephen King fan since my early teen years. My grandma turned me on to his books and Carrie was the first book to give me nightmares and when she passed, she left her Stephen King library to me. I’m also a huge fan of Terry Goodkind and have read every one of the Sword of Truth books numerous times. I love both of these authors, and those like them, because they ignore boundaries. King is so open and honest and willing to write about subjects that most would shy away from and Goodkind created such a fantastical world and also pushed the boundaries to the point of being controversial.

What kinds of stories are your comfort reads when you are sick or feeling low?
In complete opposition to books like King or Goodkind write, when I’m sick or blue and just want ot o curl up with a good book, I turn to YA novels. Yes, I’ve read the Twilight saga. Three times. I was also introduced to PC Cast’s House of Night series and went on strike for a week to read my way through the series.

Want to know more about Tasha? You’ll have to join us on Monday for the rest of the interview and a smokin’ hot adult excerpt.  Don’t worry. I do have the blurb and a story excerpt to share with you. Tasha and I don’t want to leave you hanging! 😉

Can a Witch who was born to be a Vampire Hunter find true love with her mortal enemy?

It’s easy to live life on auto pilot and that’s just what Echo Abbott is doing. That is until everything shifts. As her house of cards begins to crumble, she meets Henry Knight. Obnoxious and gorgeous she can’t stop thinking about him and against her better judgment she wonders if he is the key to healing her broken heart.

In this dark, seductive tale set in the heart of Oregon, Echo is a Witch with remarkable powers whose gift is sought after by a power hungry Vampire, Corrine. Corrine’s brother, Henry, is a willing pawn in her fight for the ultimate power and has been tracking Echo for years. Seeking out Echo’s weakness he soon finds his desire for her is more than he can control. He wants Echo all to himself, but can he convince her that he isn’t the enemy before it’s too late or will her stubborn nature be her downfall?

Story Excerpt:

“Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” A large man with muscled arms and strong hands lifted her effortlessly from the glass battlefield. “I didn’t mean to scare you! Are you okay?”

Suddenly more pissed than scared, Echo wriggled and screamed in his embrace, trying with all of her might to break free from his hold. “Put me down!”

Gingerly and on command, he did, but as her foot found the deck, she pushed a shard of glass deeper into her heel and cried out again, “Pick me up! Pick me up! Take me inside!”

The stranger quickly swooped her up back into his arms and with rapid procession, carried her into the house and set her down onto the kitchen counter. Without a word he grabbed a towel from the oven bar, soaked it in warm water and tended to her foot, pulling out the largest shard of glass that had impaled her. She screamed and kicked at him as the pain pulsed through her and as he dropped the sharp triangle on the counter beside her, Echo could feel the familiar sensation of warm blood dripping down her foot. With an eerie swiftness, the man backed as far away from Echo as he could without stepping back outside.

“That’s–that’s a lot of blood.”

His face was ashen and there was a quiver to his voice that oddly enough set Echo at ease. He was tall and muscular with broad shoulders and a chiseled chest, easily defined even through the fabric of his gray button-up shirt. His hair was raven black and clean cut and he had the hint of a five o’clock shadow on his face. His thick eyebrows were arched in alert and his crystal-blue eyes had locked onto the droplets of blood that fell to the tiled floor. He was a beautiful mess.

“Who are you and what the fuck are you doing here?”

He did not pull his eyes from the blood when he answered. “I’m Henry. I’m here to buy your house.”

“You have got to be kidding me! Henry?” Rage pulsed through her. “As in Henry Knight the douche bag stalker who refuses to take no for answer and just leave me alone? That Henry Knight?”

He finally looked up into her eyes, a hint of a smile etched along his full lips.

“Well”—he laughed—“Most women don’t refer to me as a douche bag, but yes, I suppose I am that Henry.”

About the Author

New to publishing, but not new to writing, Tasha Blackstone has been spinning tales ever since she was a little girl with an overwhelming imagination. She has spent her life weaving stories, but found a love of romance back in high school when she filled her time writing fantasy love stories for friends and classmates. Though she only writes part time for now, she hopes to someday be able to write full time. When she isn’t pounding away at the keyboard, Tasha spends her time with her best friend/husband, her three teenaged kids, and her two drama queen dogs. Life is busy, overwhelming, and hectic at times, but it’s all worth it. During the late night hours, when all is quiet, you can find her working on her next work-in-progress or curled up with a good book and bottle of tequila. Yes tequila, she hates wine!
