Five Six, Karma Gets Her Wish #KIBJ #paranormal Free Read

Welcome back, peeps!

Today I’m sharing the next chapter from Karma In Blue Jeans (Immortal Siblings). This one gives you another glimpse into the world of the Eternal Siblings as well as the Evangeline’s punishment. Karma doesn’t fool around with this one and as it turns out, neither do The Three.

If you haven’t read the first two chapters, you’ll want to catch up before you move on to this one.

Chapter 3

The trio entered the mountain cabin Yeshua called his home away from home. The phrase had always struck Karma as funny. As the Creator of All, home is wherever and whenever He wanted it to be. In a blink of an eye He could change His surroundings and yet he preferred the rustic cabin in the mountains.

Go figure.

An entire wall of the main room had been converted into a media center, covered with flat screen monitors. At any given moment, the faces of their human charges could be brought to view. Lucius called the space The War Room. She’d thought the name fit since every time The Three convened in there, Lucius and Fate would argue. Yeshua had the final say of course, but He always heard them out.

He’d been known to change His mind from time to time because of their heated debates, so the rest of the Siblings had learned it was worthwhile to speak their minds and plead their case or that of the humans they’d been assigned to look after throughout all time.

Yeshua stood from the overstuffed chair at the head of the table and welcomed them with open arms. “My sisters! It’s good to see you working so closely together with this Evangeline fiasco. I’m very pleased with the direction it’s taken.”

Beautiful woman mermaid with fantasy makeup in wreathRhiannon kissed Him on the cheek. “Really? I could’ve sworn you’d tossed the remote at the screens only yesterday after my last report. I had been convinced you’d jump in Yourself.”

“Nonsense. My frustration got the best of me is all. Nothing more. Nothing less. In Evangeline’s case, Karma and Lucius had been right from the start. The human has squandered every chance you’ve granted her. It’s time to turn the tables on her and why I asked Lucius to bring you here now.”

“Turn the tables? I don’t understand. I thought that’s what Karma has done.” Rhiannon looked between her Brothers with wide eyes, her face filled with uncertainty and concern.

Yeshua pointed to the screen that featured Evangeline’s smiling face. “If she fails the final tests, We wash our hands of her.”

Lucius toyed with his goatee and then smiled. “It’s good to hear You say that. Not all Our creations deserve the second chance to get things right in one lifetime. Some have been through dozens and still haven’t learned their lessons.”

Yeshua nodded. “That’s why I’ve decided for this one—if she does not embrace her destiny now, she’ll not have another chance.”

Karma stood before Him stunned into silence. Never before has He ruled a soul could not be reincarnated to begin again. “I don’t understand. If she fails then this lifetime will be her last?”

“My dear, Karma. I’ve grown weary of allowing mortals such as Evangeline Cross to come back time and time again to make others miserable. Why should she continue to benefit from the work of and on the backs of her fellow-man?”

“Forgive me, Brother. It saddens me to see You this way.”

“Why? Haven’t you said all alone I made the wrong choice to give them free will? That I’d end up broken-hearted in the end?”

Her eyes welled with tears. “Yes, but perhaps I’ve been too harsh. There are some who’ve earned the Blessings and have gone on to help others.”

“True, but their numbers are dwindling. That’s why I’ve come to this decision. Those who twist the Blessings to harm others will no longer be able to come back and repeat the travesty in the next—or any other lifetime.”

She looked to Lucius for help and sent him a silent plea. What do I do?

He lifted his chin toward Yeshua. Go on. Ask him.

“Then give me the chance to find other mortals worthy of Your Blessings.”

Yeshua returned to his chair and sighed. “You know Fate is against this.”

Beautiful sweet blond womanShe nodded and then sat at his feet. She held his right hand with both of hers. She held his gaze and wept freely. She felt His sorrow and pain to her very core. “You asked me to step into Lucius’s shoes and be firm but fair with the humans. Until I know their hearts as You do, I cannot hope to perform my duties without wishing to strike out at those who’ve taken away the smile from Your eyes. That sadness tells me you’ve given up.”

He squeezed her small fingers between his. “I’ve not surrendered if that’s what you mean. It’s more of an acceptance. Too few of my human children embrace their gifts. Instead they use them for evil, or even worse—they’re indifferent to each other and the damage they’ve caused.”

“Let me do this and I will find more who deserve their second chances.”

“Go ahead, Yeshua. Grant her this wish.”

All turned to find Fate standing in the doorway. Her violet gown floated about her as she entered the room. She tossed her deep auburn curls over her shoulder and sighed. “I can’t stand in her way simply because I’m afraid to lose her too.”

Lucius smiled. “I thought you’d be happy to get me out of your hair.”

She scowled and embraced him. While I’ll not miss the fights, I will miss your handsome face across the table. You’ve kept me on my toes every moment. I cannot continue to be selfish. Even gods must follow their hearts. I’ve known you’d find Brigid sooner rather than later, but I never thought it would be now. That part has been hidden even from me.”

“I’m not gone yet.” He kissed her forehead and held her to his chest.

“No you’re not, which makes this the perfect time for Karma to live on Earth for a bit.” Fate’s Irish brogue thickened as she became more emotional.

Karma got up from the floor and through her arms around Fate and Lucius. “Thank you!”

“Now don’t get too excited. You’re still expected to carry out your present duties. While you’ll appear human, you’ll still have all your powers. With that comes a great responsibility. There are those who would do anything to take away your Gifts and turn them against you. You must be on guard at all times.”

Close-up portrait of threatening man with beard wearing a hood“Black Heart?” Karma’s spine tingled at just the thought of the vile creature that’d been a thorn in the side of The Three since the days of Adam and Eve.

Fate pursed her lips and her emerald-green eyes blazed. “Aye. He has spies everywhere and I’m sure he’s heard the rumors about Lucius stepping down. He’s never forgiven him or Us for the curse. While he cannot do anything to Lucius, Malachi could harm you while you’re in mortal form.”

“I’ll be careful.”

Yeshua beckoned to her to sit in the chair next to His. “As a human with your powers, you may find you wish to exact immediate punishment or reward. Think before you do to be sure it’s deserved. Justice will be with you, but he is not immortal. If he is slain, he is dead and will have to wait for the next life cycle to return. If you are drained of your powers as a human, you too will die.”

“I’ll lose my immortality?”

He nodded. “Only for a short time. You will come back, but at a great cost. It weakens all the Eternal Siblings when one must regenerate. It leaves all of us vulnerable to attack.”

She shook her head. “But not You.”

“No, not me but I could lose some or all of our brothers and sisters. I could not bear it. The world and heavens as We know them now, would cease to exist. Knowing the risks, do you still wish to do this?”

She glanced around the room. All eyes were upon her. Rhiannon’s appeared filled with anxiety. Fate’s appeared filled with resignation, and Lucius’s amber eyes glowed with determination and faith in her.

“I do.”

“Then so be it”

“Mr. Cross, I don’t think it’s wise to discharge your wife in her current state. She’s extremely agitated and we’re concerned she may harm herself again.”

His eyes darted to the shiny name tag on the other man’s lab coat. “Dr. Justice, with all due respect, don’t be stupid. She didn’t try to kill herself. She had a frickin’ stroke.”

The doctor nodded. “She did suffer a stroke, yes but she also consumed two bottles of wine by her own admission as well as a fist full of Alprazolam.”

He closed his eyes and fell back against the wall. The pills had been a new prescription his own doctor had prescribed for him. He’d tossed the bottle in his dresser drawer, determined to not use them unless absolutely necessary. They were for panic attacks and came with specific instructions to never mix them with alcohol.

After his last fight with Evangeline, he’d looked for them. When he couldn’t find them, he thought he’d misplaced them. Then all the shit hit the fan with her publisher and he’d practically ripped the bedroom apart searching for the medication. All he’d wanted to do was relax enough to get a decent night’s rest. Now here he was talking to a man much too young and good-looking to be a doctor concerned about his wife’s mental state.

“Dad, maybe we should have her committed.” Marissa’s soft voice rang in his ears and brought him back to the discussion.

“Committed? She won’t stand for that. She’ll just check herself out of here.”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. She can’t walk. The stroke affected her entire right side of her body. We need to give her time to heal mentally and physically. With as much Alprazolam and alcohol she had in her system, I can legally hold her here for the next seventy-two hours. It would be best if she heard it from you and she’s here voluntarily.

“This is the best place for her. She needs to stay off the Internet and out of sight.” Marissa touched the faint bruise on her cheek.

He clenched his jaw. He’d never known Evangeline to get physical with their daughter before. When he’d seen the hand print on her pale skin, he’d seen red. The only thing that had kept him from confronting his wife had been the fact she had to be taken away in an ambulance. Time to face the facts. Evie’s turned into a stranger and if I don’t put my foot down now and get her the help she needs, we’re all lost. “I’ll talk to her, but I can’t promise you she’ll listen.”

“You’ve always been able to get through to her, Dad. We have to be strong now. This is for her own good. She’s been out of control and I’m scared.”

“What do you mean?” No child should feel afraid for her parent. I’ve failed my daughter.

“She’s been manic and obsessed with her book sales and rankings. If they fell below some random number in her head, she’d flip out. Last week she sobbed uncontrollably when her last book fell off the Bliss and Amazon best seller lists. She’d been frantic to set up more giveaways. I kept telling her the she was attracting the wrong kind of people with those things but she didn’t care. As long as they bought the books, she didn’t give a shit if they actually read them. She maxed out yet another credit card ordering those knock off handbags.”

Where the hell was I when this all happened?

Who was he kidding? He knew. They’d had another fight over her out of control spending on the gift baskets. Once again she’d refused to listen and told him flat out to mind his own business. He’d left and checked into a hotel downtown just to get away from her and her drunken rages.

It’s not like they were heading for bankruptcy. He’d had his thriving editing business and online magazine. His income alone had always been enough—until she started attending every reader and author convention she could find. The costs of print books and swag were enough to wipe out one credit card, but then she had to go bigger than everyone else. She’d actually hired her own entourage to man her tables so she could concentrate on signing and not deal with the money aspect.

He’d tried to get her to pick a few key meet and greets and then cut out the rest. She’d refused to listen. The last straw had been a call from their bank informing him she’d taken out a loan using her SUV as collateral. The banker had been an old college buddy of his and had given him the heads up.

She’d blown through all the money and then some. Huge chunks of it went to the critique partner to buy her silence. He found that out two days ago. He’d been floored with her admission and utterly defeated.

She’d become someone he didn’t care to know let alone be married to anymore. It had damn near broken his heart to tell her so. Remembering the moment now, threatened to do it again.

couple at restaurant“I’m tired of fighting with you. I didn’t sign up for this bullshit.”

“For better or worse ring a bell?” She’d sneered and then tossed an empty wine bottle at his head.

“Don’t throw our vows in my face, Evie. I’ve been by your side through every doctor appointment, hospital stay and every round of chemo. This is a whole other ball of wax. You’re asking me to be an accomplice to your lies. What you’ve done is not only dishonest, it’s illegal.”

“No. I paid her for the work. She’s like my ghost writer.”

“You’re twisting this to suit your needs and justify all the lies you’ve told your fans and Bliss.”

“Stop calling it lies. I’ve not done anything all the other top Romance authors haven’t done.” She opened another bottle of Pinot Grigio and filled her glass to the top.

“Really? The ones who had been caught plagiarizing, you watched fall and had a party to celebrate. You’re the one who turned in your biggest competition to those bloggers and sat back while her career combusted over one book. You’ve done it with two full series—sixteen books in total. How many more will it be?”

“As many as I want. Don’t you even think about messing this up for me, Dallas. It’s finally my turn at the top. I won’t let you take that away from me too.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean? I’ve given you everything you’ve ever wanted and more.”

“Except another child!”

“You were sick and your doctor gave me a choice, either you or the baby. I couldn’t save you both.”

“You knew I wanted him more than life itself and you took that choice from me. I’ll never forgive you for that.”

Chapter 3 Karma memeFifteen years later she’d still tossed that in his face. She’d been hemorrhaging and they had to take her uterus. Their son had lived three hours. Long enough for him to hold him and say goodbye. Evangeline never got that chance because she’d been on the operating table for over ten hours in order for her doctors to remove all the cancer that had ravaged her breasts and her body a second time.

Marissa had been their miracle after the doctors had told them the chemotherapy had rendered her infertile. The second pregnancy had been a complete surprise. Devastation had set in when told her cancer had returned. Chemotherapy had been out of the question during the pregnancy, so the cancer ran wild.

When she’d started to bleed, the doctors had taken her to surgery to save both of them. In the end, Dallas had been the one to make the horrible decision of which to save.

There was no way he’d wanted to raise two kids on his own. Evangeline and Marissa had been his life—heart and soul. While he wished the outcome had been different, he knew he’d made the right decision for his family. All had agreed.

Except his wife.

Whenever she wanted to cut him to his core, she’d bring up the loss of their son and he’d cave in to whatever she wanted to make her happy. As much as he hated to admit it, he’d created the monster who lay strapped to the hospital bed before him. If he’d stopped her from going down the path from the start, demanded both of them get counselling, maybe they’d be living a whole other life.

Now he had to pick up the pieces of their lives and figure out a way to move on, even if it meant losing her in the process.

Saturday Spotlight

Welcome to Behind Closed Doors! This week has been a flurry of activity in my household. Between edits on The Surrender of Julia (Now and Forever 3) and publishing my alter ego’s very first short story I don’t think I got very much sleep. Trying a new genre frightened the daylights out of me, but these characters just wouldn’t keep quiet.  I had to tell their story. Well, I should say LIA had to tell their story.

For those of you stopping in for the first time, I should explain a bit who Lia is. You see, she’s me and I’m her. Lia writes the M/M and menage erotica and erotic romances while I (Tammy Dennings Maggy) handle the poetry, M/F and F/F erotica and erotic romance. There is one more alter ego, Stephanie Ryan. She’s in charge of  the “good girl” genres including YA, NA, mainstream romance and mainstream fiction.  She’ll get her moment in the spotlight in a few months, but for now it’s Lia’s turn.  Let’s take a look at the video Sassy Vixen Publishing made up to introduce her and her blog The House of Taboo.

As Lia, I get to have all sorts of naughty fun and explore the more taboo characters and tales. Through her I’m able to go a bit deeper into the minds of “our” characters. With Forbidden Destiny and the full novel Call of the Thunderbird, I found within the Native American culture, LGBT individuals were historically honored, revered and respected by all members of the tribe. Called “Two Spirits” these beautiful people were not male, nor female but contained the spirits of both. As such, they could connect with others and the Great Spirit and a different level. Because of their spirituality, many were looked to as healers and shaman within their communities.  Unfortunately, when the New World was conquered…errrr..colonized, Two Spirits were attacked. The Europeans imposed their morals and beliefs onto the Native Americans. Some tribes ended up shunning the very people they once held in high regard.   Sound familiar?

In Forbidden Destiny, we meet Abraham and Ethan. Both are Two Spirit but live completely different lives. Where Ethan grew up accepted and encouraged to be whoever he wished to be, Abraham did not. He had to keep his true self hidden from his family and the local tribe members.  Even though Abraham’s tribal Elders embraced the old traditions, his parents didn’t.  Because he didn’t want to bring shame to his family, or make trouble for them with the Elders, Abraham did as his parents asked and tried to fit in with the non-Native community.

Forbidden Destiny cover 1BLURB

Ethan Quaderer is the Great Thunderbird, the creature of Native American legend. From childhood, Ethan soared high across the land, as one with the majestic bald eagles—only larger and more powerful. Great Thunderbird has one mission, to save the Native American people. But first, he must find his Chosen, his soul mate.

Abraham Tuttle grew up in a household where being different was unacceptable. Forbidden. He hid his true nature, a Two Spirit—not male or female, but both. For many Native American tribes, being Two Spirit is a blessing, one to be honored and revered. Not so for Abraham.

Through the Thunderbird dreams each finds the happiness they long for. One dreams of the Great Warrior who’d someday rescue him. The other dreams of the one he’s searched for through many lifetimes.

Dreams turn into reality when both men come face to face in the real world. Can Abraham find it within himself to let go of his past and embrace his future with Ethan, or will his doubts and fears of who and what he really is cause him to lose the only one who could ever complete him heart and soul?

About the Author

black and white of The Vixen

Lia Michaels is the alter ego of bestselling poet and erotic romance author Tammy Dennings Maggy. With so many characters clamoring for their stories to be told, the job became a bit overwhelming for one sassy vixen to handle. Lia “volunteered” to explore the world of M/M erotic romance as well as menage. Tammy will still tell the M/F and F/F stories but don’t be surprised if the two of them collaborate from time to time. With Lia, very few topics will be taboo so look for more fantasy and paranormal tales from her. She’ll leave the more contemporary stuff to Tammy but still encourage her to push the limits!

Excerpt

“Night.” Waiting a few seconds, he waited until she slipped inside and closed the door. The lights were already on. Bryn turned and smiled, feeling warm inside. He sighed and sniffed the air. Despite his youth, he did have thirty odd years of experience, but his reactions just weren’t quick enough.

Before he could move, Wallace was in his face. “So, you decided to bring her home at long last Mr. Kemp, proud of yourself?”

“Wallace Kirk I presume, I expected you to be—”

“Bigger?”

“Better looking.” Bryn felt the heat against his face but didn’t relent, he stood his ground. Wallace was everything he expected and more. He could feel the raw power coming from him. It was so strong he felt he might waver. Bryn was six foot two, yet Wallace towered over him. There was a great deal of confidence too, hitting him in the face like a wave. However, Bryn never stood down, in his short wolf life he knew that to stand firm and strong was as good as any swing of a wayward fist. Wallace wasn’t going to intimidate him, he was determined to give as good as he got.

“Smart ass too, I like smart, but ass…no. I guess I’m going to have to drill some manners into you, boy.”

That particular word pissed Bryn off a little, yet this wolf facing him overwhelmed him. He knew if he used more than harsh words, he’d have harsh wounds to match. “I’m not a boy.”

“Compared to me, you’re a kid in nappies. Hell, you haven’t even reached the twinkle in your Daddy’s eyes yet. You’re thirty. That makes you my pup.”

Bryn’s lip curled at the edge. “There a point to this? I got her home safe.”

Wallace moved forward. “Good job you did. You decide to come back after spending a pitiful five years with her and expect to replace me, just like that.”

Bryn had no choice but to shift back to avoid being touched. “I was just—”

“Following orders pup, yeah sure. Lily is a young woman, she’s impressionable, thinks she’s ready for anything. Then you come along and her fucking hormones and her wolf are in turmoil. I sensed it earlier, she was out of control. You come here when she’s in heat, bringing her mate to the door in that big bold exterior, sending her emotions all over the place.”

“She is my mate, my chosen mate, Wallace. You have to live with it okay? You have to go, you have to move on and let Lily and I become one. Your time is done here. I’m sorry about what happened to you five years ago, I’m sorry your bitch was taken from you, but that’s not my fault or yours.”

Too late, Bryn felt himself hoisted up against the stone, lifted a foot off the floor.

“You don’t get it do yer? That isn’t a question smart ass, it’s a fact. I have protected her since the day she came out of her mother’s womb. I was always there, her big bad wolf, ready to die for her.”

Oh My! @twoodwriter and Her Fallen Angel #Lucius Find Heaven On Earth

Welcome to Oh My! Monday here at Behind Closed Doors. I have a very special treat today. Many of you know that my friend and fellow author Tara S. Wood has been a recent guest on my sister blogs Sassy Vixen Publishing and The House of Taboo to celebrate the April 1st release of Lucius the first book in The Fallen series. We had such a great time surprising her with two special guests at The House of Taboo, that my alter egos and I thought it would be fun to ask one of the surprises to join me here today. It seems that the lovely Tara had such a marvelous time with Lia, myself, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston last weekend, that she nearly missed her release party celebrations…

Okay, she wasn’t too late for them, just a couple hours. Michael, Lia and I blamed it on Tom.  When he asked Tara to be his escort for another night on the town, how was she to say no? He is her favorite after all. That part didn’t sit very well with Michael and it took another wild night at The House of Taboo to make it up to him…and Tara’s promise to spend a night out with him the next time he made it to The Temptations Resort.  Right now, Temptations is only open to authors and a few special guests, but later this year it will be open to the “public.” (readers and fans that is!)

Meanwhile, Tom felt so guilty about making Tara nearly miss her release party he agreed to join me here today and read the very same excerpt he read for all of us on Taboo’s Center Stage just over a week ago. So without further adieu, I’ll turn over the blog to Hiddles…errr…Tom Hiddleston.  😉

The need to be inside her was staggering now that he was naked. He wanted to go slow, to savor this moment, to bring her to the edge over and over again until she shattered with the force of it. Hunger clawed at him with every touch of her lips and hands on his body. She was doing the teasing, stoking the fires of his desire to a fever pitch and doing her best to damn him with sensation. His wings burned and itched under her touch, rippling with a life of their own. Muscles long out of use throbbed and surged beneath his skin. He couldn’t take much more of this.

“Persephone,” he panted, “I-I can’t-” He plunged a finger inside her and groaned, the slick folds parting with an ease that had him dying for more. Lucius heard her suck in a breath.

“God, please!”
He’d thought touching her would satiate the need to be inside her. His mind reeled at the hoarse sounds coming from her throat as he stroked the softness of her sex and knew he would never be satisfied. Ever.

Her breath came in shallow little gasps while she bucked under the cadence of his hand. His body hardened in response as he felt her tense under the strain. She was wound tight like a spring, ready to explode. He would take her there if it killed him.

Her head thrashed on the pillow and she grabbed at him with furious hands, her lovely face awash with pleasure. Beads of sweat broke out on his body as he gritted his teeth and tried to ignore the rock hard pulsing of his cock.

“Please, Lucius. More…I need…” Her voice was pleading. Lucius drove his fingers faster, sinking into her, drawing out her desire. He felt her snap and she cried out his name as her back arched in climax, her body jerking its release.

He held her close, whispering soothing words over the curve of her ear, but she wasn’t finished. Her hungry hands reached for him again, and he gasped as she found his hard length and wrapped her hand around it.

“I want you inside me. I want to feel you,” she whispered.

He was lost. Lucius spread her legs with his knee and positioned himself at her center. He growled, “Mine” again, and thrust hard, joining them deep. She absorbed the shock and hung on, urging him higher. Persephone’s body wrapped around his as if they were made for each other, locked together in a perfect fit.

At their joining, the wings on his back blazed hotter, the fire spreading through his limbs. He felt them shift and pull as if they were trying to break free from his earthbound form and unfurl into the night. They roiled under the surface of his skin, threatening to pierce their way out. He groaned louder, her sweet little body taking all of him and clasping so tightly he could barely breathe. He wanted to fly. His skin crawled with it. With each pounding thrust he could feel it, and the pain of his wings hissed and fought with the pleasure of his body. He wanted to soar.

Persephone’s soft moans and gasps fueled his desire, rocketing it forward, and he could no longer hold back. His hips pistoned back and forth, rocking her against the mattress, each satiny stroke destroying his sanity. Somewhere in the distance, he heard her call his name and felt her tense again. Her second orgasm drove him over the edge, the contractions of her sex triggering his blinding response. The explosion nearly knocked him over and everything went white. His balls tightened and his body flexed, and Lucius threw back his head and shouted in triumph. He was flying. After all this time, he was flying.

Cursed of the First Born…new poetry

I’ve been working on a collection of vampire inspired poetry so I decided to write one to act as a teaser for one of my other works in progress, The Kayne Legacy. The poem here today helps to tell the tale of how Cain came to be  known as the Guardian in my series. He is chosen by The Three (Yeshua, Fate, and Lucius) to protect the Essense of the Tree of Life. Since Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden it was left hidden from all humanity.  Now as a chance to atone for accidentally causing the death of his brother Abel, Cain is given the opportunity to turn tragedy into triumph.

I have an entire series planned for the Kayne Family. They are a group of immortals and other paranormal beings. The first born of each generation is given the choice to be a Guardian of the Tree or to live a “normal” mortal life. Some members of the family are powerful witches and warlocks and others are at least part fairy. From the beginning, Lilith and Cain’s offspring were to be wed to their soul mates in the fae realm. Because of these matches, the Kayne Family are powerful and involved in every aspect of life on Earth. They take their  duty to protect the Tree of Life very seriously and part of that is to help mortals survive.

Curse of the First Born

Once destined for greatness and riches
Beyond your wildest dreams,
Now lost and alone,
Your family torn apart at the seams.
The spilled blood of your brother cries out for justice
Because in a rage, you struck out
Wishing only for his taunts to end.
Now you await your punishment
With hands covered in his blood and dust.
The Gods should be angry.
For even this unintentional loss of life will offend.

Vengeance is Ours and Ours alone.
You played a role in your brother’s death,
This much is true.
There is only one way for you to atone.
It’s not your death We seek,
But service that can only be assigned
To a chosen few.

Forever your life you must pledge
Even though you feel you are unworthy.
Upon your brow a mark will be made.
No one will dare harm one chosen by The Three.
For with this Curse your debt will be paid.

Within your blood now lies
The Essence of the Tree of Life.
No mere mortal can be trusted
With such a task.
Leave this place and your family
In search of Lilith to be your wife.
Together you will create a clan who will walk the Night,
Whose influence and power will grow to be vast.

The choice will be yours and yours alone
To continue to shield yourself from the Sun.
Once you take this path
You cannot go back into the Light.
For the very Essence of Immortal Life itself
Will course within your veins,
And you will be marked as our Chosen One.
But only through the First Born of every generation
Shall the Essence pass unspoiled as is their birthright.

Some will call you cursed and cringe
Whenever they hear your name.
But they know not the ways of The Three.
You are chosen on this day
To guard the Secrets of the immortal soul.
You are no longer First Born of Adam and Eve,
But now the Guardian forever known as Cain.

A hot and sexy Vampire has taken over the Blog!

I am Steffan Matthews. I am the vampire leader of Ambrose Heights and I am the guest blogger at Author Tammy Dennings Maggy’s Behind Closed Doors. “Guest” is a little bit of a reach now that the words have come out of my mouth. In actuality, she didn’t put up much of an argument once I flashed my fangs in the request, so maybe I should rephrase this to say I “took over” the blog.

My apologies to the lovely Ms. Maggy- I would never do anything to harm you. I must confess; the fangs were a bit of a faux pas on my part. They seem to descend on their own, overriding my self-control when I see a beautiful woman. I am a vampire, but don’t forget- I am still a man. To my credit, I did spare you the drool.

Well, now that I have composed myself, I am here and this is what I want to talk about- The story of my family and the woman that wrote the books, Maya DeLeina.

To start, take a look at the series that is based on my family.

The Ambrose Heights Vampires series

This Erotic Vampire Romance series follows the Matthew’s Lair as they intermingle with society, develop human-like serums, craft doctrines, connect with other vampire families and paranormal beings and search for their fated mates. They reside in the ultra-exclusive neighborhood of Ambrose Heights. Ambrose Heights sits high up on the mountain, overlooking the town of Manitou Springs, Colorado. And while the town is known for its healing spring waters, fabled underground passages and rumored lore of wizardry and witchcraft, the town’s residents find Ambrose Heights mysterious and inexplicable- they don’t quite know what to make of the gated community that seems to have appeared overnight. If only someone had done their homework. After all, the name Ambrose says it all- Immortal.

Maya DeLeina is the Author that brought my family’s stories to life. Here is an account of the day I met Maya DeLeina and how she became the author of the Ambrose Heights Vampires series.

Maya DeLeina took her time walking through castle. Admiring the antiques that I had collected over the years, she made her way to the great room where my family waited for her arrival in sheer anticipation.

The invitation we sent to her was for dusk. At this time of day, the mountain terrain that sat outside the floor to ceiling windows that flanked the entire length of the great room radiated in swirls or purple and pink hues. We thought this would calm her.

After all, we didn’t quite know how she was going to react being among the only human in a room full of vampires.

“Why me? Why did I get an invite here?” Maya asked. I had her seated in my Tibetan antique chair in front of the family. She looked calm and collected, but I could tell she was shaking on the inside.

“You know our town and we know you have the ability to craft some tantalizing tales.” I responded.

Maya nodded her head.

“And you know about us, who we are. Don’t you?” Rhys said in a menacing tone.

Maya nodded her head once again, signaling her affirmation in the statement. Her body stiffened in fear.

“Maya,” I called to her in a soothing tenor.

Maya turned her attention to me.

“We will be leaving Ambrose Heights soon. We can’t stay any longer. People are starting to wonder about us.” I said.

“Ok. What do you want from me exactly?” Maya asked.

“We want you to write about our family. We want others in the town to know who exactly we were and how “human” we live our life.”

Maya cleared her throat, “How do you want me to write this?”

I looked around the room to my family members. We had talked about what exactly we wanted from Maya DeLeina for quite some time now. I searched their eyes for confirmation and was met with overwhelming encouragement, “We envision a series, where each of us would have our own story. You know, talk about how we became a vampire, what happened here in Manitou Springs. Each of us has experienced wild and unique adventures.”

I paused, allowing for Maya to ask questions. She remained silent, looking at me in a trance.

“You will start with Rhys first. He and his mate had kept a diary of what happened, so this would be a good starting point for you. Then, I would like you to write about me. I will be leaving Ambrose Heights first since I have to set up our residence for the family.” I continued.

“Where are you guys moving to?”

I just smiled and remained unwaveringly silent.

“Oh, I – I get it.” Maya responded.

“After that, you can start interviewing everyone to see where you would like to go after that,” I explained.

Maya smiled and quickly reached for her laptop. The screen illuminated the excitement in her face as the device came to life. The keys on her keyboard popped with exhilaration. “So, I am thinking we can meet down at the coffee shop on a regular basis to go over my progress and answer any questions I have. They have fantastically comfortable winged-back chairs that…”

“No Maya. I don’t think you understand. As long as my family takes up residence here, there is no meeting outside in public on this.”

“What are you suggesting then?”

“What I am suggesting? Would you like to see your accommodations here at Ambrose Heights?”

“Are you serious? You want me to live here while I write about your family?”

“Yes. We want you here Maya. Does that bother you?”

“N-No. It’s just…” Maya stuttered.

“You will be safe. Trust me. When you start learning about our family, you will feel perfectly comfortable in our presence.” I explained.

“And we will have Vaughn pick up food to stock the kitchen with.” Eilian added.

“So Maya, what do you think?” asked Rhys.

Maya quickly turned her attention to her laptop. Her fingers moved like lightening over the keys.

“What are you writing over there?” I asked

“The title of the series.” Maya said plainly.

“So this means you accept?”

Maya looked up and smiled. She turned her laptop around to display what she had typed.

We all leaned in to look at what was displayed on the screen.

“Ambrose Heights Vampires.”
